The latest episode of Sam and Max (demo version:
http://www.telltalegames.com/download/thepenalzone ) seems to work almost
perfectly under Wine; save for a complete lack of sound output.

This only appears to be an issue with Wine 1.1.36 and above; after bisecting
the tree, it was found that this patch (
http://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/?a=commit;h=3410ab8b7ce434bfbccb1429c0...
) causes the regression.

Look at bug 21248, and try setting mmdevapi = none in winecfg.

I'm going to go ahead and re-open this. The workaround did not work for me, nor
did compiling from git HEAD.

I seem to get a lot of these every second:

err:mmdevapi:ACR_ReleaseBuffer Starting from 1014

so I'm assuming the problem is related
