This is the backtrace file that was produced.

I was trying to install WebPlus X8 from SERIF.  www.serif.com. It had just
about finished extracting its files then the attached error occurred.
I am running Ubuntu 15.10 LTS with WINE installed and all the latest patches
applied.

You need to upgrade your wine.

"Wine build: wine-1.6.2"

It's really outdated.

This is after the upgrade to WINE 1.6.2.
Sorry I thought a Systems update might update WINE. Sorry I was wrong. I am
still learning about UBUNTU.

I have now upgraded to WINE 1.8. This looked more promising. It got a lot
further. It asked about Installing a MS VB Distributable for .NET. Something
then about a MONO Install, which I said yes to. This failed due to a Checksum
error. Then something about GECKO install I said yes, but then got a small
Error window saying COMMAND LINE ERROR.
I tried the install again and now I just get COMMAND LINE ERROR. What other
info can I give you?

That should have been Visual C++ not VB.

You should install dotnet files via winetricks like this winetricks -q version.

For example winetricks -q dotnet45.

They tend to fail if you dont use winetricks. If you don't have it installed.

Prerequisites (installer will install on its own if not present):

* MS .NET Framework 2.0
* MS VC++ 2010 runtime redistributable

Tidbit: the vendor states 'WebPlus X8' product is being abandoned (EOL).
