Bug ID: 50263 Summary: Entropia Universe: Won't Start the Game from Client Loader Product: Wine Version: 5.22 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: verminator@gmx.net Distribution: ---
Created attachment 68798 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=68798 short log with exception-line
Starting the game shows the legal stuff and after accepting it the Client Loader appears. In the Client Loader the Start-button usually switches to full-screen mode and shows the login-screen.
However, since a few versions of Wine that's not happening, but the Start-button gets disabled for a bit it becomes enabled shortly afterwards. And that's it.
I also have Lutris running Wines lutris-5.7-4-x86_64 and lutris-5.7-11-x86_64 and both run fine.

I got updated to Wine 6.2 and it works there.
It's fixed, then.
An info about this would have been nice.
It would, but we don't really have an automated way to know that this application was fixed. Suggestions welcome if you have an idea ;).

How should people know that the problem here has been fixed with a Wine release when the root cause hasn't been even identified? Although there is a crash happening according to your logs it could be *anything*. There is simply not enough information present.
It requires a deeper analysis, i.e. tracing and debugging of the app which didn't happen here. There are people who could do that but they have priorities as well. There are thousands of open bugs and no bug is "most important".
When the root cause has been identified and can be traced to a specific patch/commit mentioning the app name or bug id then there might be a chance that other users/developers update the status of a ticket as part of Wine releases.
Besides that, you are the creator of the bug report hence it's your obligation to test if the problem has been fixed with a Wine release and update the status.

--- Comment #5 from verminator verminator@gmx.net --- Why that harshness now?
Imagine a world where not everybody is you. Imagine a world where not everybody knows how Wine works and what further information is needed to take a closer look at certain issues. Imagine a world where somebody prefers Linux over Windows and installs Wine to play a game they like.
So Wine is a tool like there are millions others out there, apparently each to be known in great detail by everybody who uses it. Seriously?
I agree that this wasn't the most important thing that needed to be fixed in the history of Wine. However, it's a report by somebody who cares about Wine with the intention to improve it. Nonetheless this bug was lying around dead for three months without anyone taking a look at it or giving the slightest impression that anyone would care at a certain point in time.
So you are the coders of Wine hence it's your obligation to reply to me and ask for further information (e.g., "send us the output of this command") that I'd have been happy to share and updated the status with. I read that bug page and provided what I felt was interesting.
But no, of course it's easier to be the average narrow-minded Linux-"I hate all my users"-tech guy to come back and attempt to make me feel bad now. As far as I'm concerned that didn't work.
I wish you a nice day.
