Summary: Wrong font size in an application forms Product: Wine Version: 1.1.19 Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: enhancement Priority: P2 Component: fonts AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: yhorror@mail.ru
Created an attachment (id=20640) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=20640) Wine screenshot
The font size in some forms of the "DCI Reporter" application is too small in Wine (6 instead of 8 in Windows). That makes the forms unreadable. The screenshot (partially sloshed to hide confidential data).

I attach a sceenshot from Windows to compare. Notice that font size in Windows is the same for both top and underneath forms. But in Wine they are different. In Wine the application fills its top form with font size 6 instead of 8. That is the bug. If it will be fixed, there is no need to change screen resolution.

--- Comment #4 from Dmitry Timoshkov dmitry@codeweavers.com 2009-04-24 02:09:16 --- How do you recognize the font size between 6 and 8? Visually? Fonts in the Wine screenshot look consistently to me, I don't see any problem there.
Have you tried to change the resolution in winecfg?

Yes. Did you mean i can't do that?
Fonts in the Wine screenshot look consistently to me, I don't see any problem there.
Did you laugh at me? Try to read last name of the second person from the bottom. Or first name of the bottom one. Type the names here if you can!
Have you tried to change the resolution in winecfg?
Yes, of course! This is the first thing that i try to do. And that don't solve the trouble. See the third screenshot and tell me the full name of the first person - if you can read it, heh!

This is an example of font sizes affecting the text readability. Look at this if you distrust that i can distinguish size 6 from 8.

--- Comment #8 from Dmitry Timoshkov dmitry@codeweavers.com 2009-04-25 06:08:35 --- Font of 6 points *can* look larger that a font of 8 points if screen resolution in both cases are different. If changing screen resolution in winecfg changes nothing for you then there is something wrong on your end.

I doubt that there's something wrong on the reporter's end, because the fonts looked very small to me too even on the installation screen. See for yourself:

If you compare 1st and 3rd attachments thoroughly, you can see that changing the sreen resolution affects letters size in the below form but change nothing with font in the top form. Notice also that with resolution changed the top form is totally unusable (buttons are missed).
If changing screen resolution in winecfg changes nothing for you then there is something wrong on your end.
Yes, something is wrong... with Wine, because in Windows the application works fine with any screen resolution.

[sarcasm mode on] No, it's not an issue anymore, because the "DCI Reporter" doesn't work at all under Wine newer than 1.1.29.

Please file a separate bug for that, after running a regression test: http://wiki.winehq.org/RegressionTesting

--- Comment #16 from Tomasz Sałaciński tommy@getrpm.net 2010-05-01 18:33:24 --- The with small fonts during installation still exists in WINE 1.1.42, but I couldn't test the application itself, since I'm unable to install it (the bug seems strange, before the installation it tries to create start menu items and fails to create /DCI Reporter).
