Summary: Dragon Naturally Speaking 7 crashes after training complete Product: Wine Version: CVS Platform: Other URL: http://scansoft.com OS/Version: other Status: NEW Severity: enhancement Priority: P2 Component: wine-ole AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: dank@kegel.com
Created an attachment (id=7715) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=7715) +ole log of running training, and error that happened shortly thereafter
After user training is complete, DNS puts up a dialog saying something like "Congratulations! Training is complete." The next thing you do crashes with a dialog box saying something like "Unexpected error. COM out of memory." and log messages like Unhandled exception: page fault on read access to 0x00000000 in 32-bit code (0x0 0000000).
Fortunately, the error repeats the next time you start and try to do something, you don't have to repeat training. Better make a copy of ~/.wine once you finish training, though, so you can get back to that state quickly in case something goes wrong. (e.g. running a +relay log at that point filled up my disk, and after that, dragon wouldn't start properly.)

--- Comment #1 from Dan Kegel dank@kegel.com 2007-09-08 08:58:41 --- Workaround: just leave the error dialog box there, don't press ok. Same with the next one. The app then reportedly even lets you start Dragonpad and recognize text. (I haven't seen this myself yet, as dragonpad seems to hang on startup.)

--- Comment #2 from Dan Kegel dank@kegel.com 2007-09-08 15:53:17 --- Well, now I have. The workaround (besides not clicking "OK" on those two error dialogs) is to just wait long enough. On my fast machine, Dragonpad shows up after four minutes, and some time later starts accepting dictation. (Susan says she has to wait 15 minutes.)

--- Comment #3 from Susan Cragin susancragin@earthlink.net 2007-09-08 16:58:12 --- I timed my last test. My Acer Ferrari 1GB RAM loaded in 6 minutes. Dictation started 4 minutes after that, so ten minutes altogether.

--- Comment #5 from Maarten Lankhorst M.B.Lankhorst@gmail.com 2007-10-10 11:53:55 --- This bug seems to occur when you already have a system tray icon for dragon naturally speaking, then starting the program from the desktop icon (or wine natspeak). If you kill that icon first, and make sure it is entirely killed with wineserver -k, it won't occur. So something fails in an unexpected way when naturally speaking is already running.
