Summary: Random freeze of Grand Prix Legends 1.2.0.1 Product: Wine Version: 1.1.2 Platform: PC-x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: enhancement Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: peter.hoogkamer@gmail.com
Created an attachment (id=15349) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=15349) Error lines from GPL freeze
When running Grand Prix Legends 1.2.0.1 I randomly get a freeze of the game. Most of the times this happens when I wait for the last seconds to run out after a qualifying session of when I let the Options screen open. As for the error I am getting, they are always the same err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection errors within section 0x94d100 and 0x94d1e0 (see attachement for the full error log).
I am trying to reproduce this error consitently, but I did manage to get that write yet.

--- Comment #2 from Tux peter.hoogkamer@gmail.com 2008-08-09 05:48:01 --- Hello,
There is a demo from this game (Grand Prix Legends 2004 Demo), but I don't know if it has the same issue.

--- Comment #3 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2009-02-16 02:27:07 --- Is this still an issue in current (1.1.15 or newer) wine?

--- Comment #4 from Tux peter.hoogkamer@gmail.com 2009-02-16 02:41:52 --- Yes, it is. I get these freezes still randomly with the same error. err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x94d1e0 "?" wait timed out in thread 001d, blocked by 001f, retrying (60 sec)
If you would like to have logs or info I can get it for you. The game is running perfectly, although I have to disable pulseaudio, because that is an issue as well. I lets the game freeze on sound. If you want an error log for that I can post it here. I would be very glad if these random freezes could be fixed, because than GPL would run flawless on wine and ubuntu.

--- Comment #5 from Xwang xwang1976@email.it 2009-03-07 14:17:39 --- I can confirm the same issue. I'm running kubuntu 8.10 64bit with wine-1.1.16. The issue happens after some minutes and I suspect is related to te sound since before the freeze happens, the sound quality decrease while cpu increases. I will search if I can test the game without sound. Xwang

--- Comment #6 from Xwang xwang1976@email.it 2009-03-08 08:26:52 --- Changing audio settings did not change the situation, but I was able to play my first race without freeze forcing the execution on a single cpu/core with the following start command (as suggested at this page http://www.zefix.tv/linux_wine_racing_simulations/FrontPage): taskset -c 1 env WINEPREFIX="/home/andreak/.wine" wine "C:\Sierra\GPL\gpl.exe" I suggest who has the problem to try such option. Xwang
PS my notebook has a Centrino 2 Duo P8400 and I've chosen to use the second core for playing the game.

The random freezes do not happen that often anymore running wine 1.1.31 and using taskset [cpu number] to bind the process to one single cpu.

--- Comment #11 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2013-11-13 16:49:54 CST --- This is your friendly reminder that there has been no bug activity for 2 years. Is this still an issue in current (1.7.6 or newer) wine? If so, please attach the terminal output in 1.7.6 (see http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#get_log).
