--- Comment #3 from Adrien Kwok cncxbox@gmail.com 2008-10-29 18:06:14 --- I started the game through Steam, as usual with the following launch options:
-dxlevel 81 -width 1440 -height 900
Then I just press Find a Server, then selected a server, then I see the map, the sound screeches, then crashes with the crash log in the attachment.

--- Comment #7 from vitamind nsa.sys@gmail.com 2009-04-29 00:41:09 --- I began having this problem when I upgraded to Ubuntu 9.04 from 8.10. I try and join a server and the game just crashes. I found a temporary fix by disabling pulseaudio.

--- Comment #8 from siege_machine@hotmail.com 2009-09-04 13:03:21 --- I thought it might be an alsa thing and I double checked on it. My game was running fine but then I tried running CSS with dxlevel 81 and the main menu was all messed up (mouse pointer doesn't sync with click point) I maanaged to get into a game because I heard dx 8.1 was supposed to work better but I got a system crash and my wine folder went stale and I had to do a fsck to fix it....At any rate after that it seems that now I can't start the game on dxlevel 90 which I had been previously using just fine (except with minor lag doing certain actions) as well as my TF2 no longer plays for as long as I need (game quits after short time bug). They also said the in game community thing which I keep double checking time and time again and the option is still off. So when my wine managed to run through all of the bugs everyone has been having, suddenly I've got them all heh.

See attachment for the last thing I see where the game hangs and then a steam error box comes up

After joining a server this is where my game hangs and the wine error box pops up. Alsa is the only selected audio and I have in game community turned off.

--- Comment #10 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2010-09-07 16:48:28 CDT --- This is your friendly reminder that there has been no bug activity for a year. Is this still an issue in current (1.3.2 or newer) wine?

--- Comment #11 from Chiitoo king_zim@hotmail.com 2010-10-12 20:02:49 CDT --- Greetings.
This is the first post from me here and so forth so pardon me if it differs from the preferred. ;^^
I probably should open a new bug for it because it does seem to differ from this but it is still so similar and might help someone in the future to mention it here, as well.
So, Counter-Strike: Source crashes, or rather just disappears when joining a server or starting a game/the stress test.
Rather than explaining it once again I'll link to the post I created about it at the Gentoo forum-board. I hope this is okay.
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-846642-highlight-.html
As I mention in the post, I can not run ANY steam-related games and I tried to disable audio via wine altogether with no change whatsoever and there is also the fact that running it with WINEDEBUG=+relay,+seh,+tid and Lo, as mentioned on the winehq page I got it from,
"There are some cases where the bug seems to disappear when +relay is used,"
as long as the +relay option is present, the problem seems to be gone and the game wont "disappear" though it of course is running very slowly. So with that option I could not reproduce the problem but I did, however, get a gargantuan log file (almost 8GB)!
A bit of an update to that from testing it now as the post there is from a while back...
When creating a server of my own, the game does not "go away" when it's active, most notable thing here is that I'm getting sound from the game so that must mean it's not about Audio which is the case for a lot of people I see here. However, pressin the "OK" or what was the button, will commence the disappear-act.
I will have to produce logs and other info later on but as I've been meaning to post here for a long time now, I'll do at least this much now when I got to it. ;^^
A little bit of a hardware/software "image" is in place though I imagine, heh.
AMD Phenom(tm) II X6 1090T Processor ASUS ENGTX270 4GB RAM Gentoo (64bit) latest sources etc. wine-1.3.4 (also tried 1.2.something while 1.3~ was masked)
Can't think of anything else right now, sorry!
Thank you in advance. Kind Regards, The Noob Unlimited

--- Comment #12 from kaueraal alexanderkauer+winedb@gmail.com 2010-10-18 12:05:17 CDT --- I have the same problems like Chiitoo.
I'm running Gentoo as well, I tried wine 1.2 and 1.3. This affects all of my Steam games, all other games or applications work as they should.

--- Comment #13 from kaueraal alexanderkauer+winedb@gmail.com 2010-10-19 06:58:38 CDT --- Even if I disable the Steam ingame UI it seems causing the problems. Blacklisting the "gameoverlayrenderer.dll" fixed it for me. See http://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?t=9588

Aha!
This was the culprit for me too, good call. I disabled the gameoverlayrenderer.dll for hl2 and there we go, no more weird crashing. I have used winetricks as well before, so perhaps that is what made it such an elusive thing to notice.
Thank you for mentioning it here! When I first searched all over for this, it was before your post on the forum, I think, and I guess I did not search again lately. ;^^
Thank you again! Kind Regards, The Noob Unlimited

--- Comment #15 from Maxim maxim.kukushkin@gmail.com 2012-03-24 13:02:27 CDT --- The same bug applies to me as well - the game just crashes when joining a server (either local or remote). The sound in the main menu is ok, the game looks good, but one the progress bar reaches 100%, everything just disappears and I see my KDE desktop in the resolution set by CS:S.
The video stress test works ok, without problem. The games was installed in Steam and with winetricks.
Blacklisting of gameoverlayrenderer.dll didn't do the trick. DirectX9 is installed.
Some other Valve games work correctly (Left2Dead for instance), but some crash (Portal 2, on main menu) the same way.
The last messages I see in the logs are:
err:mmtime:TIME_MMTimeStop Timer still active?! err:d3d:wined3d_wndproc Window 0x2014a is not registered with wined3d. err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x7d6404 "?" wait timed out in thread 0027, blocked by 0028, retrying (60 sec)
Version of my Wine is 1.5.0 (Arch Linux).
Have anyone managed to fix this?

I can't reproduce this with Wine 1.7.18, resolving 'fixed'. Reading the comments this was likely a dupe anyway.
