Summary: Adobe Photoshop CS5 tool windows stay visible after switching to another program Product: Wine Version: 1.2 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: wine@scotthinton.com
If you have an open tool window(layers, info, color picker, etc) open in CS5 and you switch to another program. The tool window stays visible on screen. Minimizing via the program bar on the bottom of the screen reproduces the effect.
Minimizing using the actual minimize button in the program window will hide the tool window as normal.

--- Comment #1 from Dan MacDonald allcoms@gmail.com 2011-09-25 07:57:52 CDT --- This bug is still present under wine 1.3.29 so please change status to confirmed.
The original reporter neglected to mention that the tool windows remain visible when you switch virtual desktops too.
One of the main features not working in PS CS5 is bridge and this bug prevents someone using an external thumbnail viewer such as Irfanview as a bridge substitute effectively as you have to hide all your tool windows before switching desktop so that it doesn't obscure the other app(s).

Tested with a lot of wine versions 1.3.33 and above. The bug is present in all tested versions with Photoshop CS5, Debian Squeeze.
If more information is needed (like xwininfo or similiar) please let me know. I would be glad to help you, fix this bug.

--- Comment #6 from Andrew Martin amartin@avidandrew.com --- Ken,
I can reliably reproduce this bug in WINE 1.7.12. For example, open up the History window and then navigate to a non-WINE application. The History window remains visible on top of all other applications, despite Photoshop having lost focus. Please find attached a console log from opening Photoshop, opening a photo, selecting the History window, and then navigating to a different application.
Thanks,
Andrew

I was about to fill the new bug for this issue.
How to put the bug into practice:
1) Open Adobe Photoshop 2) Open another program (eg. Mozilla Firefox)
-> No issues visible. Continue...
3) Keep both programs open. Select Adobe Photoshop window so it becomes active. Make sure you have some tool palettes, like "layers" or "tools" visible in Photoshop. 4) Select window of the other program again
5) This is what happens, see the attached screenshot.
At the moment the screenshot was taken, Mozilla Firefox was the active program window on my desktop, not Photoshop. It seems that Wine can't somehow keep any tool palettes (layers, history, tools, etc...) of Adobe Photoshop in one program container and instead, shows them even if the program is inactive/running on the background in your system.
Occurs at least in Adobe Photoshop CS2. This bug has existed for as long as I can remember, at least three years or something like that.

--- Comment #12 from winetest@luukku.com --- This bug is most likely a dupe, there are quite many photoshop related z-order bugs open. I quess solving one of them would solve them all.
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23898
--- Comment #13 from Fincer fincer89@hotmail.com --- Yes, very likely a duplicate. According to @Chituc Georgian this is what actually happens under the hood (quote from here https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=41595):
When photoshop Tool window is opened from Windows->Tools , it create 3 windows . All have a style WS_POPUP . The first and second window are containers , the last show the tools.
But when the photoshop main window is minimized , only the last from the 3 windows receive the SW_HIDE message .
For example if i open in photoshop Windows ->Tools ,it create the next windows with next hwnds :
static BOOL send_message() hwnd: 0x808fa static BOOL send_message() hwnd: 0x8049c static BOOL send_message() hwnd: 0x808f6
But when I click the photoshop minimize buton , in photoshop main window ,
static BOOL send_message() is called with info->msg == WM_SHOWWINDOW just for the last hwnd , 0x808f6 ;
I think also the first hwnd (0x808fa) must receive this message too.
Wine must minimze all windows of photoshop when minimize button is pressed , no matter this have 'Override Redirect State: yes' .
