When I attempt to run Ashita.exe with wine, the program encounters a serious
problem and has to close.

That's almost certainly a dupe of bug 52651.

I'm sorry since I'm very new to using Wine, but I'm not really sure what I can
do after checking bug 52651? Apparently I have to install a patch? If so, how
do I apply it?

If you don't know how to compile stuff, just wait for next release or - given
that the bug is actually a regression - take your chance with the previous
release.

(I mean, applying the patch is simple, properly building wine - not so much)
