Is this the program you're talking about: http://download.slingmedia.com/player/pc/SlingPlayer_PC_Setup%201.5-UK.exe
Yes, this is the correct application.
Using 1.0-rc4 under Ubuntu Hardy.
The installer completes, but it puts some files in c:\ which then have to be moved manually to c:\Program Files\Sling Media\Sling Player. The installer worked fine under 0.9.58.
The application then loads, but exits just before any image is shown (a connection IS made to the Slingbox).

--- Comment #4 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2008-12-08 01:55:43 --- Please retest in 1.1.10.

--- Comment #5 from Ken Sharp kennybobs@o2.co.uk 2008-12-12 05:02:27 --- 1.5 UK has been removed from the Sling Media website and replaced with 1.5.1 EU. 1.5 US has been removed from the Sling Media website and replaced with 2.0 US.
Neither of the new versions make it through the install process!
No further testing can be done as the application is no longer available, unless the OP has a copy of the original?
Abandon bug?

--- Comment #6 from Ken Sharp kennybobs@o2.co.uk 2008-12-12 05:35:56 --- My apologies! The download *is* still available, it was just hidden well!
Testing 1.5 UK now...

--- Comment #7 from Ken Sharp kennybobs@o2.co.uk 2008-12-16 13:23:31 --- Slingplayer 1.5 UK and 1.5.1 EU work fine and have done since I started using them under Wine (around 0.9.58) so long as the HOWTO is followed on the appdb.
Slingplayer does not get as far as to connect to the Slingbox without following the HOWTO, so I'm fairly certain this bug is resolved.

--- Comment #8 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2008-12-16 14:47:39 --- There are apparently several wine bugs, according to the AppDB: 7. Add gdiplus to run native only. 8. Add msxml3 to run native only. 9. Add qcap to run native, builtin. 10. Add quartz to run native, builtin.
The gdiplus bug looks like bug 6090. I don't see a msxml3 bug. The qcap bug may be bug 13371 (not sure on that one). I don't see a quartz bug.
It'd be best to make sure individual bugs are filed for each of these things, before closing this one.

--- Comment #9 from Alistair Leslie-Hughes leslie_alistair@hotmail.com 2008-12-16 16:33:46 --- The msxml issue was http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11257 which is fixed.

--- Comment #10 from Ken Sharp kennybobs@o2.co.uk 2008-12-17 11:46:38 --- 7. Add gdiplus to run native only.
This does appear to be Bug 6090. Workaround is "winetricks gdiplus".
8. Add msxml3 to run native only.
This is still necessary. Using the builtin version the Slingplayer loads, but exits with a Vis C error. To register msxml3.dll, msxml3r.dll is also required. Opened Bug 16546.
9. Add qcap to run native, builtin. 10. Add quartz to run native, builtin.
The original trace logs for Bug 13371 seem to show both qcap.dll and quartz.dll, so I don't know what that bug refers to.
The order of when they are required during installation: qcap.dll, quartz.dll, gdiplus.dll and msxml3.dll. Windows Media 9 is also required. The Slingplayer installer offers to install WMP9.5 runtimes but it always fails during the first attempt for some reason.
The required files are available here: http://www.slingcommunity.com/downloads/wine/slingplayer_dependancies.zip
All files appear to be needed with the exception of dxdiag.dll. I think this probably has something to do with the video tuning wizard, but that doesn't work at all at the moment.

--- Comment #11 from Ken Sharp kennybobs@o2.co.uk 2009-01-08 20:00:02 --- OK, I don't see the "Operation failed" error message when installing 1.5. I think the problems with this app have changed somewhat since this bug was opened. There are no traces, so it's not easy to see what component this bug would refer to. It seems to have become a meta-bug.
Each issue now has a separate bug open for it (some of which are resolved).
Can this be closed?
