Summary: stamps.com installer hangs Product: Wine Version: 1.1.29 Platform: PC URL: http://stamps.com/download/ OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Keywords: download, Installer Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: dank@kegel.com
The article http://www.law.com/jsp/legaltechnology/pubArticleLT.jsp?id=1202433585325 says lots of nice things about linux, and lists stamps.com in the author's wish list. So I tried installing the current version. It hangs forever, seemingly near the end of installation, in a busy loop.
I uploaded a +relay,+process,+msi log to http://kegel.com/wine/stamps-log.rz

--- Comment #2 from Dan Kegel dank@kegel.com 2010-08-03 09:37:17 --- Still happening with 1.3.0. It just sits there, forever, querying three registry keys: 000b:Call advapi32.RegOpenKeyExA(000001e0,0124e268 ".Default\Software\Microsoft",00000000,00020019,0124dc60) ret=01d60f9c 000b:Call advapi32.RegOpenKeyExA(80000002,01d91190 "Software\Stamps.com",00000000,00020019,0124d8f8) ret=01d69259 000b:Call advapi32.RegQueryValueExA(000001e0,01d90adc "SDCEnableClientLogging",00000000,0124d8ec,0124d8f0,0124d8f4) ret=01d69281 and, periodically also doing 0026:Call KERNEL32.GlobalFindAtomA(008b1ce8 "ControlOfs0040000000000026") ret=00459734
Kind of smells like some service didn't start up...

--- Comment #5 from Alex Henrie alexhenrie24@gmail.com 2013-08-19 16:41:31 CDT --- Created attachment 45667 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=45667 backtrace
For what it's worth, I got the installer to finish without any changes to the Wine source, but I could not reproduce it.
The stamps.com installer spawns a second executable (also named stamps.com) which gets stuck calling WaitForMultipleObjectsEx in an infinite loop. The backtrace is attached.
Suggestions on where to go from here would be appreciated.

Works with wine-1.9.18-121-g4e9cc30 (stamps 14.1)
But the question is that was the fix in installer or in wine?

The bug happened with multiple versions of Stamps over the years, so safest bet is to assume Wine was fixed (and it also works for older 9.5 Stamps).
