Summary: 3DS Max 7.0: Registration Window doesn't load properly Product: Wine Version: 1.1.5 Platform: PC URL: http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112 &id=5659302 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: shdocvw AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: rockinup1231@gmail.com
Created an attachment (id=16385) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=16385) Output trying to register the program
When running 3DS Max 7, you will get a Window that loads up asking if you want to run the program or activate it. If you choose the option to activate it, a pop-up will display which is supposed to show all the options for activating your copy of the program. Unfortunately, when it loads up all that is inside of it is a blank screen with two bullets on the top and a line under it.
The console spit out a few fixmes related to shdocvw and mshtml mainly (which I will attach as well as a screenshot). I tried using dll overrides for shdocvw, shwapi and mshtml but all it did was silence the errors and keep the registration window from even popping up...
I'm not sure the URL is even good to download 3DS Max 7 at anymore, so I'll keep looking if I have to.
Also, 3DS Max 7 will give you a 30 day grace period before they require you to register it.

--- Comment #2 from Louis Lenders xerox_xerox2000@yahoo.co.uk 2008-10-01 00:16:41 --- looks like same problem as autocad has. Could you try if using native shlwapi.dll works around the bug?

--- Comment #3 from Justin Soulia rockinup1231@gmail.com 2008-10-01 15:44:57 --- It got it to load up further, but not all the way. It just displayed some of the text that was supposed to be there and a picture, but you can't do anything useful. Every time I clicked or pressed enter on anything, it would produce this fixme:
fixme:shdocvw:ClOleCommandTarget_Exec (0x1dc234)->((null) 35 0 (nil) (nil))
I'm going to have to agree with you that this bug is the same with the Autocad program. (I didn't see the bug before when I was checking to make sure I didn't make a duplicate of another).

--- Comment #4 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2009-04-17 12:21:11 --- Is this still an issue in current (1.1.19 or newer) wine?

--- Comment #5 from Justin Soulia rockinup1231@gmail.com 2009-04-17 16:22:20 --- I haven't been able to test 3DS in a long while due to hardware incompatibility with linux distro's, but this bug seems to be a duplicate of 12570 without a doubt. It's made by the same company and the same workarounds alleviate the problem.
