Bug #: 30299 Summary: Graphical glitches AMD/ATI graphic cards in some specific games. Product: Wine Version: 1.5.0 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Mac OS X Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: major Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: paulthetall@gmail.com Classification: Unclassified
There are a list of games which do work fine on the Mac with Nvidia graphical Cards, but give massive graphical glitches on AMD/ATI graphical Cards. Examples of games which are infected with the issue:
Red Faction Guerilla Tombraider Underworld Assassin Creed Lara croft and the guardian of Light Crysis 2 The saboteur Lord of the Rings War of the North The adventures of Tintin and quite some others which are infected
UseGLSL=disabled does not work in those cases and also changing display settings in the game (like shadows and such which might sometimes help in other games with other graphhical glitches). So this passes that part.
There is a demo for Lara croft and the guardian of light which you can download to test http://store.steampowered.com/app/35130/
Linux users probably won't have this issue becasue they can install graphical driver updates from the Graphical card developers. Apple on the otherhand have not that luxury and we are stuck and dependent on apple updates. However somehow Transgaming with his Cider wrappers which is mostly wine overrulled this issue for AMD Radeon/ATI cards. So it is possible to run this kinda games on the Mac. Most likely because Chris bently from AMD Supported Cider so it might be they give some fixes for this kinda issues to Cider which they used to get it run properly for AMD Radeon card Macs.
So to you guys the question to look into it. You can use the deo te reproduce it on an AMD/ATI Mac to get the right debugcode. Also I made a video which shows the graphical glitches i talk about up here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LH1aSEH3mQg

--- Comment #3 from Vitaliy Margolen vitaliy-bugzilla@kievinfo.com 2012-03-29 21:17:46 CDT --- (In reply to comment #2) Then this bug is invalid one problem per bug report. General bugs such as this won't ever get solved. Will wait for d3d expert to chime in if it's worth keeping this bug open or not.
Also if you really want to show a problem - attach a screenshot demonstrating a problem. Not a 10 minute narrative about you using your PC.

I don't see much point in keeping it. Aside from not being very specific, there's a large chance that the individual issues the bug is about will turn out to be bugs in the OS X driver. I'll happily fix actual bugs in wined3d that affect OS X, but so far I haven't found a lot of those while debugging these kinds of issues.

--- Comment #7 from Henri Verbeet hverbeet@gmail.com 2012-03-30 03:37:23 CDT --- In principle you'd need a bug report about a specific bug in a specific game. However, I should also say that we do look into issues like these a fair amount at CodeWeavers, and it just rarely results in something that isn't best described as "terrible hack to work around a driver bug". Quite frankly, probably the best way to get acceptable OpenGL on Apple hardware is to just install Linux on it.

Well installing Linux on a Mac is not really an option for all Mac users :P but how to explain cider getting that bug worked out in the assassin Creed 2 cider version of the game? And that works on the AMD radeon system. So it is possible somehow. If i port Assassin creed 2 on the mac with my AMD Radeon 6770M it has the same glitches as in the video but on Cider it works fine. Cider is mainly wine also...so there should be something what can fix it. Just wondering.

it [fix] just rarely results in something that isn't best described as "terrible hack to work around a driver bug".
Transgaming is known for such "fixes". There is no place for them in Wine.
Closing.
