I installed Electric Quilt 6 just fine, but I am having problems getting it to
run.

I experience with wine is limited, any help would be appreciated.

Sorry I attached a log..
Anyways I did figure it out I downloaded gdiplus.dll added it to the library,
seems to of smoothed things out

Installing native windows dlls doesn't count as a fix.

The main error in that log
wine: Call from 0x7b844360 to unimplemented function
gdiplus.dll.GdipSetClipRectI, aborting
might be fixed with wine-0.9.60.

Can you delete your ~/.wine directory, install the app with wine-0.9.60
and no native DLLs, and see if it's really fixed? 
If it's still busted, attach a new log and tell us the symptoms.

I installed the Wine update via the synaptic. removed the .dll file from the
library

It runs but very slow, not very usable

Can you check to see if the gdiplus installed by
  wget http://kegel.com/wine/winetricks
  sh winetricks gdiplus
works and gives you the speedup you expect from your previous try?

Not really.. still very slow, drawing is slow, response time slow
