Bug ID: 49560 Summary: Ashes of the Singularity: Escalation freezes at Turinium Optimized Product: Wine Version: 5.12 Hardware: x86 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: mo78@abv.bg Distribution: ---
Created attachment 67700 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=67700 Ashes of the Singularity: Escalation Wine log
Ashes of the Singularity: Escalation freezes at Turinium Optimized caption. The game starts fine and when reaches "Turinium Optimized" in the loading menu, it freezes and I have to kill it manually. I can't reach the main menu, it's the initioal loading screen of the game. Tried with clean prefix and on two different Linux distros - Arch and Linux Mint. It's the latest GOG version.

--- Comment #2 from Olivier F. R. Dierick o.dierick@piezo-forte.be --- Hello,
This ~may~ be an application bug: https://forums.ashesofthesingularity.com/476111/stuck-on-turinium-optimized-...
It's also possible that Wine meets the same conditions that triggers the application bug in Windows.
Does disabling xaudio2_7 with WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xaudio2_7=d" change anything? (See how to use that variable in https://wiki.winehq.org/Wine_User%27s_Guide#WINEDLLOVERRIDES.3DDLL_Overrides)
Regards.

--- Comment #3 from mo78@abv.bg --- Hello, Thank you for your reply :) Unfortunately disabling xaudio2_7 doesn't help. Do you want log with xaudio2_7 disabled?

Wine 5.14 - The problem is still here.
Does 'winetricks corefonts' help? I tested the thing a bit and it helped here.

--- Comment #7 from Paul Gofman pgofman@codeweavers.com --- More precisely, it looks like having some arial.ttf in c:\windows\Fonts helps it (the actual font in the TTF file does not even have to be named Arial).

Actually yes! Thank you!
this bug is not actually fixed. you used a workaround to get around a bug.

More precisely, it looks like having some arial.ttf in c:\windows\Fonts helps it (the actual font in the TTF file does not even have to be named Arial).
So it's not a dupe of bug 32342?
Regards.

It seems that not exactly, Staging patch doesn't help here, while a proper solution might be the same for both bugs. The game here seems to need arial.ttf to be present in windows\Fonts specifically, not the Arial font face name being available.

--- Comment #11 from pioruns2019@gmx.com --- Hi all,
I can confirm this problem still exists with wine 8.0 and Ashes of Singularity: Escalation game. When I did "winetricks corefonts" inside WINEPREFIX, games started working.
