Summary: Hebrew text input: "Swedish Vowels" Product: Wine Version: 0.9.46. Platform: Other OS/Version: other Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: wine-x11driver AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: winehq-bugs@dotancohen.com
In ListPro (http://www.iliumsoft.com/site/lp/listpro.php) I receive "Swedish Vowels" when typing in Hebrew. See attached screenshot. The reverse Hebrew was typed in a ListPro file in Windows. The Swedish Vowels were typed in wine.
Note that in a previous wine install, 0.9.45, the pretyped Hebrew did _not_ appear backwards. See screenshot attached to previous bug for example: http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=8160

Browsing the filesystem and opening files, including Hebrew directory names and Hebrew filenames: Works perfectly
List Pane: Reading and typing Hebrew works perfectly, but is left-aligned.
Items: Typing Hebrew shows the first character for each character pressed while in edit mode, however, after hitting Enter the characters are displayed correctly. Again, the Hebrew is left-aligned. For instance, typing ְשלום looks like this: ש שש ששש שששש שששש<enter> שלום
Notes: Typing Hebrew gives "Swedish Vowels". It is possible to translate this to Hebrew with the http://gibberish.co.il website service.

--- Comment #4 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2008-10-23 15:06:06 --- Is this still an issue in current (1.1.6 or newer) wine? If this is a regression, can you run a regression test: http://wiki.winehq.org/RegressionTesting

--- Comment #5 from Dotan Cohen winehq-bugs@dotancohen.com 2008-10-23 15:32:53 --- It will be a few weeks before I have the time to do the regression test, but I will get around to it eventually.

--- Comment #6 from Yotam Benshalom benshalom@gmail.com 2009-01-28 11:28:26 --- I can confirm this problem on ubuntu intrepid, wine 1.1.13.
When running:
LC_ALL=he_IL.utf8 LANG=he_IL.utf8 notepad
I get the first Hebrew character typed in the line repeated on screen when typing subsequent, different characters. This is not rectified for me by typing <Enter>. That means that wine has practically ceased to support all Hebrew input.

--- Comment #7 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2009-07-30 11:11:22 --- Probably a dupe of 1425.

--- Comment #9 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2011-10-06 21:01:11 CDT --- BiDi support has improved quite a bit recently, worth giving this another try in 1.3.29/1.3.30 (coming out Monday).

Bug 9876 depends on bug 609, which changed state.
