Summary: Sound Non-Functional in Wine 1.1.16 on Ubuntu 8.10 AMD64 Product: Wine Version: 1.1.16 Platform: PC-x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: major Priority: P1 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: me@dawning.ca
Immediately after updating to Wine 1.1.16 on Ubuntu 8.10 AMD64 my sound has stopped functioning.
I've tried opening the Wine Configuration tool and when I hit "Test Sound" I get an error message stating: "Audio Test Failed!". I've tried switching Sound drivers from ALSA to OSS, no change in results. I've also tried the JACK driver with the same result. I believe Pulse Audio USED to be listed, but it's no longer present.
Upon running a game on Wine that previously had sound, I see the following message:
This sound card's driver does not support direct access The (slower) DirectSound HEL mode will be used instead. err:wave:JACK_OpenWaveOutDevice jack server not running? err:wave:wodOpen JACK_OpenWaveOutDevice(0) failed This sound card's driver does not support direct access The (slower) DirectSound HEL mode will be used instead.

Most likely invalid. Or duplicate.

--- Comment #3 from James me@dawning.ca 2009-03-01 13:21:50 --- Ahh, that's exactly what it was.. I removed pulseaudio from my Ubuntu system here and now I have sound again in Wine.
I don't really love that I had remove pulseaudio since I'm not entirely sure where it was making a positive difference.
Nevertheless, I have sound again. This was an invalid ticket. How could I have figured this out before? There must have been an FAQ or something that I ought to have read? Sorry for the post & thanks for the help!
