Summary: EQ2 Particle errors Product: Wine Version: 1.1.17 Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: major Priority: P2 Component: directx-d3d AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: dhess31@comcast.net
In Everquest II, the particle effects do not draw correctly. Most of the time they don't show up at all, however, occasionally they are drawn and the screen look correct for a split second.
This actually causes some of the important game features to not function correctly. Playing with any GFX setting doesn't seem to fix it, including the setting of ComplexShaderDistance to -1.
Using Ubuntu 8.10 x86 with nvidia 177 drivers.

I was able to fix this by changing the OffscreenRendering to FBO.
Bugs can only be marked fixed if a change goes into Wine to rectify the problem.

--- Comment #4 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2009-10-01 15:01:36 --- FBO is now the default, so sorta fixed...Is this still an issue in current (1.1.30 or newer) wine?

EverQuest II doesn't run well with anything after Wine 1.1.18 (see bug #19659). If FBO is the default now, though, then all should be well.
We recommend that people installing EQ2 on Wine set a few values in their registries before starting the game; OffScreenRendering is one of them.

As FBO is the default and other bugs have been fixed, we are now able to test this. No, this is no longer an issue.
It appears this bug has been fixed, at least in a round-about way.
