Summary: install fails - msi_cabextract FDICopy fails Product: Wine Version: 1.1.10 Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: john.solomon@indysoft.com
First, forgive me, I am a noooooob in every sense of the word.I have not used any linux or distro before. I have just started using Ubuntu 8.04 in an experiment to run two apps. that I use often. One is an Firebird db for asset management (work) and the other is a Cad/Cam program (play). It took a while but I got the Firebird to run in wine (1.1.10). I am having issues with the cad program called eCabinets. The mfg for the program does not support their software outside of windows 2000 or XP. The install is interupted before it finishes (when copying files). It sounds like the issue reported for Office2003, Quickbook, COD and a few others. your case ids 15887, 15642 and 11719
err:msi:msi_cabextract FDICopy failed err:msi:ACTION_InstallFiles Failed to extract cabinet: L"Data1.cab" err:msi:ITERATE_Actions Execution halted, action L"InstallFinalize" returned 1627 err:msi:ITERATE_Actions Execution halted, action L"ExecuteAction" returned 1627
the full log is attached
The program uses DAO, jet40 for its access databases. I used wine-doors to get DAO, Jet and a few others that sound like they might be needed like windows common controls, XP library, runtime libs
I have done so much trying to get this solve short of rollbacks and unistalls, I am doing circles
If there is anything else I can tell you, please let me know. But please dumb down your questions for noooobs and dont be suprised if I ask stupid questions.
btw... Ubunto and wine..... rocks..... can you say bye bye Bill Gates?

--- Comment #8 from John john.solomon@indysoft.com 2009-05-04 07:55:04 --- I do not know if it is different bugs giving the same error message, but like you said, there are at least 4 different programs giving the same error message. When I received word that the problem was fixed, I tested a 1.1.20 wine and the recommended 1.1.13 version both still gave me the same error as before. I did find it kind of odd that they said to upgrade to 1.1.13 after the 1.1.20 version was released.
I did unload wine and my software before loading 1.1.13, 1.1.20 and my software.
I have been chomping at the bit for a fix so I have tried about every version since 1.1.9 just to see if a fix just happens along.
Being so new to linux based systems, my first thought was that I may be doing something wrong. I assume (I hate that word) that the developers at winehq have tests the fix against the software mentioned, eCabinets in my case, and not just one software thinking it will fix it for all.
I keep my system up to date within 2 weeks of any release. I am still running the 8.04 Ubuntu and the latest 1.1.20 wine. I am tempted to bump up to the new 9.04 Ubuntu, but I did not want to take the leap and be forced to revert back. I have a lot of programs I would need to reload. A total reload is the last thing I want to do but will if it will get my most important program running.(In reply to comment #7)

--- Comment #9 from Ken Sharp kennybobs@o2.co.uk 2009-05-04 08:07:18 --- I wouldn't bother moving to 9.04, it won't improve anything in Wine and might bugger the audio. Welcome to Ubuntu.
I've answered my own question. The cause seems to vary, so it's a bit of a generic message. Some of these bugs may be duplicate, but in my own experience of this error message, the cause is different.

--- Comment #10 from John john.solomon@indysoft.com 2009-05-04 08:40:28 --- Thanks,
I have found Ubuntu to be a little easier to use, customize and to keep up to day than Fedora. I have not tried Gentoo or any of the others yet. linux drivers for the laptop I use are almost non-existant, so getting everything to work is not an easy task. I tend to find something that works an stick with it. 8.10 works well also, but 8.04 LTS will be around a little longer.
I checked the release notes for 1.1.13 to 1.1.20 and oddly enough I did not find my case# in there anywhere. They might of ment to say the next version (1.1.21) when it is releast.
Carl mentioned in reply 2-4 another program with the same issue (I hope he opened his own case) and then turned around and said it was fixed in 1.1.13. I can see someone at winehp interperting that as being my issue was fixed which is not the case.

--- Comment #11 from Ken Sharp kennybobs@o2.co.uk 2009-05-04 08:53:13 --- Austin checks bugs regularly for fixes / abandons. If you have said the bug isn't fixed, then he won't close this bug until it is confirmed. If the bug hasn't been closed, it won't appear in the release notes.
Are you installing into a clean wineprefix?
http://www.ecabinetsystems.com/ Is this the software? Is there a trial version? The only I found on Google was some shabby site asking for CC details.. unlikely.

--- Comment #12 from John john.solomon@indysoft.com 2009-05-04 09:44:23 --- On April 25, I received an email that my case was resolved. I checked here to verify and found comments from punx69, Carl and Austin. I also found the case closed. I assumed that meant that my issue was addressed and I can install the version recommended. I tried the next version, which was 1.1.20 with no luck. I removed wine and install the 1.1.13 (mentioned by Austin) and still no luck. I promptly reverted the case to unconfirmed. (this may be why I do not see anything in the release notes).
Clean wineprefix? I sorry to say I am not sure as to what you mean. (noob) I used Ubuntu's package manager and uninstalled wine. renamed the .wine folder just in case I needed the old one back. Installed the 1.1.13 version. reinstalled my software. No luck there, same thing. I will admit that I do not think what I did was correct. As I installed the software, it should of acted as if It had never be installed before, instead it gave the the repair, upgrade and remove screen usually indicating that there is a version installed already.
The hyperlink you have is correct. There is no trial version, but the software is free to those who request it. This software contains a lot of images and Thermwood, the company that owns ecabinets, has decided not to allow downloads of the entire package. You can only download updates.
Dan kegel had received a disk with the software. There may be one other developer with the disk. Registration is done on-line at
http://order.ecabinetsystems.com/ecabforms/email_registration_submit.aspx
All you need is a valid email address. If you wish, I can send you an older version disk, but I can not send you a registration code.
I might be able to copy the disk to a place on our network and give you the ability to download the 600+ MB files, but you will need to copy it to a CD to install.
As you can tell, I am a noob to anything linux. this is why I do not assume I did everything correctly. If I missed something, please tell me.
Thanks for your help.

--- Comment #14 from Ken Sharp kennybobs@o2.co.uk 2009-05-04 17:57:07 --- By the sound of it, you did actually use a clean wineprefix. http://wiki.jswindle.com/index.php/Wine_Man_Page#ENVIRONMENT_VARIABLES
The Indysoft URL is a dead link.
Do you need a registration code to get to the point of failure? If not, I'll happily download and look at it if there is a valid link anywhere. I don't really want to be on their mailing list.

--- Comment #15 from Carl typo101@clemnet.info 2009-05-05 01:19:03 --- To clarify my comments. I participated in this bug ticket because it was already linked to the installer that was giving me this error (Rome Total War). I don't know if anybody recommended 1.1.13, but I do know that moving from 1.1.12 to any later version seemed to stop this specific error for me. It might also be relevant that I am using Gentoo, not Ubuntu.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16551
--- Comment #16 from Ken Sharp kennybobs@o2.co.uk 2009-05-05 07:04:46 --- Well if that's the case Rome Total War didn't have the same problem.
This bug is about eCabinet Systems. Perhaps someone could update the bug summary to reflect this and stop the confusion?

--- Comment #17 from Ken Sharp kennybobs@o2.co.uk 2009-05-05 07:06:30 --- ...and remove the link from Rome's appdb entry.

--- Comment #18 from John john.solomon@indysoft.com 2009-05-05 07:34:16 --- Ken,
I am not sure why the link works for me and not for you. I have had issues in the past with links that I.E. would truncate, rendering them dead. So I am shortening the link and maybe that will help.
http://downloads.indysoftsupport.com/pickup/John/ECS/ECS.zip
if that does not work, try this one.
http://indymain.indysoft.com/john/ECS/ECS.zip
The registration code will not be needed until the end. The error will appear before then.
If you use the installer, it will just tell you that the installations was interupted. Using the terminal will give the needed error message.
Also, using a program called installrite, I was able to get a little farther in the process. Installrite monitors the installation of a piece of software and can create new install complete with needed directories and registry entries. (on a windows system). Using that I was able to get all of the files and reg settings, but I had issues with the process that actually communicates with Thermwoods server for registration and upgrades. Just another bump in the road that I think has been resolved.
I forgot to mention that when I first started this, I was on a new system. (Ubuntu and wine was the only software on my system) eCabinets is my main piece of software that I use so it made sense to me that it would be the first one to load. I assume that this would also give me a fresh wineprefix. I did have to load a few winetricks to get as far as I did.
My system is now a dual boot with Vista and Ubuntu on it. I also have about 14 other pieces of software that I have loaded since about Febuary. A few cad's, some games, and a few relational DB programs that are for work (just playing around to see if they will run on linux systems)(btw, they do with wine).
Please let me know if you still have problems with the link.
Thanks again.
John

--- Comment #21 from John john.solomon@indysoft.com 2010-02-08 15:57:14 --- Well, ok.
I have tried everything I can think of. I have upgraded my ubuntu to 9.10, installed all of the winetricks that the err (that I understood) messages mentioned, and I have event tried the new ecabinet version 6. Nothing seems to help. There is some good news. Ecabinets can now be downloaded from the web. Its still free, but you do have to register it. the new link is:
http://order.ecabinetsystems.com/updates/eCabinetSystems6-0Build1.asp
Its about 113MB.
The err:'s that I get mention windows common controls (6.0.0.0) and active x components which errors out as well (according to the dialog box).
I did notice that I no longer get the FDI Copy error... Maybe there was some progress, just not enough to get it up and running.

--- Comment #22 from John john.solomon@indysoft.com 2011-01-12 14:12:45 CST --- Well, after letting Wine and Ubuntu age a bit, I figure it is about time to revisit this. First the new software I am running Ubuntu 10.10 and wine 1.3.10 The latest eCabinet software is Ver 6 Build 6 which is downloadable from: http://www.ecabinetsystems.com/ecabinet_systems_updates.htm
It is Free, but you will need to register it.
Now the last issue I had was with the cabextract. This is no longer and issue.
But I still need some help.
I have installed some winetricks of jet40, corefonts, ie6_full, ie7, mdac28 and vcrun2005 (I do not have any overrides)
but no matter what, I still get:
john@john-MX8738:~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Thermwood/eCabinet Systems$ wine ECABINETS.exe fixme:ole:OaBuildVersion Version value not known yet. Unhandled exception: page fault on read access to 0x00000000 in 32-bit code (0x00000000).
There are 3 things I see. 1) something about build version number. 2) registry uuid beginning with 6c736db1 and 3) registry uuid beginning with ecabb0c0.
I have no clue about #1. #2 and 3 look like something to do with db connectivity which there is some .mdb's in the program. If there was a problem connecting to the db, I would not be able to enter a registration number. (which I have done.
What happens when I launch the program: When I launch ecabinets from the terminal, I do get a splash screen followed by another dialog announcing that there was a problem. I have to use the system monitor to kill the task.
I hope I have given enough info and please let me thank you in advance.
john
btw,I did try this on ubuntu 9.04 which yelled at me as well, but it had an issue with common components

--- Comment #23 from John john.solomon@indysoft.com 2011-02-21 10:25:03 CST --- Well, this is where I stand now. The program will launch, and I can do some of the big things, but there is one "Major" thing I can not figure out. There is a panel on the right side called "Item Window" that refuses to appear. I am aware that there is a driver issue, but with all of the troubleshooting I have done, I am 99% sure that the missing panel is not due to the driver issue. Since this program has two major flaws. 1) it uses multi access databases and 2) relies on Internet Explorer 7 and above. I have done everything I can find to make sure odbc is working correctly and jet as well. I can launch IE7 and browse the web. I know that the psfactory ole error deals with valmp.dll, but installing any of the visualstudio winetricks does not seem to help. If I copy the 6c736d.. reg settings it will cause the program to crash without opening.

--- Comment #24 from Dan Kegel dank@kegel.com 2011-02-21 23:15:01 CST --- Sounds like the original bug is fixed (or maybe just doesn't happen with the new version of the app). I'm testing the app now, will file a new bug soon, and will post here with a link to the new bug when I do.

Thank you Dan for looking at the. You are correct in that the original bug appears to be fixed. The program will install and you can launch it.
From there there are a few issues. On the toolbar there are the main functions
of Cabinet editor, batch cabinet, custom layout and door drawer designer. If you click on the cabinet editor, there should be a control called Item Window on th eright side. Its some type of tabbed page control that also shows jpg's. Its missing on my system. It is this that is throwing the first ole error. Something about VALMP.DLL which is part of VS2005. I noticed that if I install ie7 per wine-reviews artical and then try to install vs2005trial, I run into issues an the vs2005trial install fails. reverse the order of install and ie7 will not function properly (will not connect to the internet). Just copying the dll's from program files\microsoft visual studio\common\tools\vs-ent98\vanalyzr\ is not enough and copying the registry keys can cause a complete crash.
Clicking on the other main fuctions will give you simular issues (err:ole ...) as well. I have not attempted any other testing since the main functions are not working properly yet.
I am not sure but there might be a problem with trying to use vs2005trial and ie7 (which is upgraded from ie6_full) together.
I also noticed that if I install winetrick comctl32 then open the wine configure dialog, click on the about tab, the tab will disappear and the tabs will change from two rows to a single row. (just something odd I noticed.
As part of my troubleshooting (if you can call it that) I downloaded a program called mdbplus.exe. its a db viewer for access db. when I attempt to open one of the ecabinets.mdb (and you need a password, I get an error 80004001 and the terminal shows an err:ole...x80040155. I think it is related to a dao error you can get trying to use the door/drawer designer. (unable to open ecabinets file data). closing the program after this error will result message DAO exectption - db already open by user admin on machine....
I know from Thermwood that they open the db exclusively.
I am sorry to sound all over the place, but I have been trying to get this program running for some time now. I have been devoting a lot of time lately (passed 10 weeks about 5 hours a day) . told you I was a nood. :)
Thank you again.

--- Comment #27 from Dan Kegel dank@kegel.com 2011-02-22 08:11:15 CST --- You should never have to install vs2005trial, it is totally unrelated application, you must be thinking of vcrun2005, which is a commonly needed runtime library.

You should never have to install vs2005trial, it is totally unrelated application, you must be thinking of vcrun2005, which is a commonly needed runtime library.
the software vendor gave me some info on there developement enviroment. The use VS 2005 which give C++ 8.0 winSxS librarys, OLE 2.4, MS Component Category manager library, mdac 2.5 jet 3.51 dcom95. dao 3.5 msxml 6.0 sp1. When I started to get some err messeges in terminal, I was able to trace them to vs2005. I had tried vcrun2005, but I still received the errors. Seeing that the regisry was missing some setting, I "concluded" that I needed to do a real install to get the registry settings. This is why I was installing trial.
Question: When I was installing ecabinets, it yelled at me for not having ie7 or higher, yet when you install, all you did was jet, mdac and vcrun2005. Did it not tell you that you needed IE?
thanks.

--- Comment #29 from Dan Kegel dank@kegel.com 2011-02-22 08:28:37 CST --- If running vc2005trial helps more than vcrun2005, that's surprising and nasty, one should never have to install vc2005trial to run anything.
About ie7: I didn't need it because I am using the beta version of wine's ie clone, see http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-devel/2011-January/088551.html

I had a program (3D Garten Genie 5) using Dao 3.5, but the program did not come with Dao 3.5. In order to be able to open the mdb-databases, I had to install Dao 3.5. Dao 3.5 was installed with visual c6 development suite but not with the vc6-runtime. I could not find the DAO 3.5 files at microsoft, but here is download that sets up just the required files: http://www.estos.de/download/index.htm Download DAO 3.5 Update: dao35upd.exe

Thank you Ulrich,
Luckely this program gets everything it needs to 'open' the access db's with the jet40 and MDac25 and vcrun2005.
During my research, I came across a Microsoft kb artical #240377 that talks about Jet3.4, DAO, Access ODBC drivers and ADO. It talks about what files you need and which dll's to register. Pretty helpfull.
Although there are other issue to deal with, I can at least install and open the program now. I will give the DAO 3.5 a try to see if it improves the functionality of the software.
Thank you again.
