Summary: Mathcad 2k Pro fails to run without real msvcirt.dll file Product: Wine Version: 0.9.54. Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: blocker Priority: P2 Component: msvcrt AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: kc8ldo@arrl.net
Created an attachment (id=10500) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=10500) command line debugger output
I installed Mathcad 2000 Pro into a fresh wine setup. I can't get the application to start. Trying to start from a command line resulted in a bunch of debugger output. Seems wine can't or does not support the "msvcirt.dll" file containing the ".??0ostrstream@@QAE@XZ" stream function.
I manually installed the "msvcirt.dll" file from a working and up to date Windows XP Pro machine, from the "system32" folder, in to the local user's ".wine" folder under the same "system32" subfolder.
The application now starts and runs as expected.

Can you attach the output from the console?

--- Comment #2 from Luke Bratch l_bratch@yahoo.co.uk 2008-01-29 04:29:08 --- Leland, please post in Bugzilla, do not reply to wine-bugs. Email read:
"Sure.
Like I mentioned in the bug report after installing the real "msvcirt.dll" file the applications loads and runs. I have to copy over some font files, from the windows machine, for special symbols so they display OK.
I still have one problem however. There is an option for add on dll files to expand the built-in functions. When I try that the application hangs forever. Sooner or later I'll have to spend some time and see if I can get any debugger output when that happens and file another bug report."

--- Comment #3 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2008-06-09 15:43:23 --- Is this still an issue in current (1.0-rc4) or newer wine?

--- Comment #4 from Leland C. Scott kc8ldo@arrl.net 2008-06-10 20:25:14 --- It has never worked and still hangs in 1.0-rc4. The test case I always try is the Reemez Exchange fucntion in the Signal Function Pack DLL add-on. I open the handbook and scroll down to the sample and watch it just sit there forever with the green box around the function like Mathcad is trying to do something. Under Windows the function takes a second or two to execute.
The funny thing is I also have a problem with another app, Circuitmaker 2000 Pro that also throws up an error message about not being able to correctly load the simulation dll. I wonder if the two problems are related? One person said he has tha last app working under another distro but I can't make it work on Fedora.
I've tried Mathcad under Fedora Core 5 and Fedora 8. Neither work. I compile Wine from source for each version that comes out to test it. On a 500 MHz PIII test machine that takes about 3 to 4 hours. 8-( My 1 GHz PIII test machine isn't much faster.
