Summary: Slow texture drawing in World of Warcraft Product: Wine Version: 0.9.47. Platform: Other OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: enhancement Priority: P2 Component: wine-opengl AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: dave@landlordhat.com
I recently upgraded from two nvidia 7900GTS cards in SLI to two 8600GTS cards, still in SLI.
Since doing so, textures outside my immediate area (not sure how to describe... 30 or so game yards?) are drawn slowly. Moving forward I see terrain and objects drawn without any texture (just grey) then slowly the textures fade in.
I run WoW in opengl mode, I tried to switch over to d3d, but the game runs so poorly that I really couldn't determine if the issue was apparent there as well.
I reported this to nvidia (http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=100893) and they felt that (since it apparently doesn't happen in Windows) I should report it here as well.
I apologize for not having a whole ton of other information. :(
Anything I can do to be more helpful, please let me know.

--- Comment #1 from Dave M dave@landlordhat.com 2007-10-26 18:08:49 --- Just FYI... still happening in 0.9.48, not even sure if it's a WINE issue but I will wait and see what someone else thinks.
Thanks.

--- Comment #2 from Roderick Colenbrander thunderbird2k@gmx.net 2007-10-27 05:16:59 --- It is not a wine problem. Our opengl code (except for some code to initialise opengl) only forwards to the native opengl. There are I think a few things. First of all the geforce8 linux drivers aren't that optimal (though it is a lot better in the latest releases). Second not all apps take advantage of SLI. It depends on how apps are written. Some opengl calls are 'expensive' to sync between cards and cost a lot of performance.
You could try a different SLI rendering mode. That could really help. Check your nvidia readme file for more information. Perhaps also figure out what SLI mode the nvidia drivers select for wow on windows.

--- Comment #3 from Dave M dave@landlordhat.com 2007-10-27 07:35:45 --- That was my impression as well... I did try disabling SLI outright, but no improvement. The person at Nvidia handling my post did say they'd look into a driver issue if the WINE team felt it was not a WINE issue.
Thanks!
