Summary: Allow Runs=Yes even if Installs=No Product: WineHQ Apps Database Version: unspecified Platform: All OS/Version: All Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: appdb-unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: liquitsnake@gmx.net
I tried to submit testing data for a game (Crysis Warhead). The installer is broken, but when the game is installed in a VM and copied to Linux, it runs fine under Wine. AppDB however complains: "You can only set Runs? to ‘Not installable’' if the application's installer does not work" This artificial limitation is unnecessary. Please consider removing it

No. This is to force the rating to Garbage.
Why? Because depending on a Windows install to install an application deserves this rating. Needing an entire windows install to use an application is a bad and almost completely defeats the purpose of Wine.
File a bug for the installer.

--- Comment #5 from Jörg Höhle hoehle@users.sourceforge.net 2009-05-22 04:30:26 --- So it's been reject, yet I've been annoyed several times that AppDB does not accept the combination installs: no runs: yes
I met three cases:
a) Installer fails, but one can just copy all files from CD to HD e.g. Pumuckl Klabauterjagd http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=16122 (did not yet file bug report for the installer) This case does not deserve garbage rating.
b) Installer fails with wine on MacOS, but copying the game directory and registry entries from a Linux wine install works. e.g. Pharaoh
c) People in AppDB report that copying a MS-Windows install directory to wine works.
Case c) is very annoying, as it means that probably many people like me cannot use the game, lacking a MS-Windows system.
Yet there's value in knowing about that in AppDB, esp. a) and b), instead of silencing it by submitting false data. For Pumuckl, I lied and said: installs: N/A. This is not acceptable.
