Summary: Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars hangs at splash screen Product: Wine Version: unspecified Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: andrejx@gmail.com
Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars hangs at splash screen. The CPU usage is at 100% and there appears to be no hard disk utilization.
Tested with Wine versions: 1.1.24, 1.1.23, 1.1.20, 1.1.18, 1.1.10, 1.1.8 Same results on all of them.
Tested using "Windows XP" and "Vista" options. Nothing works. It was suggested to disable all audio modules in winecfg, but that did not help either.

--- Comment #2 from minj@inbox.lt 2009-07-21 04:10:36 --- Actually this worked for me up until wine-1.1.25 but I experience it in wine-1.1.26.
Game hangs at splash screen when using ALSA drivers but loads with OSS. However there is no sound with OSS (Bug 7597). Attaching both outputs.

--- Comment #5 from sub.mesa@gmail.com 2009-08-02 08:08:23 --- Confirming with 1.1.26. With ALSA as sound module it hangs at the splash screen, with OSS it works and i also have sound. Other games i play using Wine do work fine with ALSA, so i'm not sure what the issue is here.
I tried C&C 3: Kane's Wrath (the expansion to Tiberium Wars), v1.04.

Terminal output
wine: Call from 0x7b836572 to unimplemented function d3dx9_36.dll.D3DXCreateEffect, aborting
You need to work around this by using native d3dx9_36.dll - winetricks can install it, it's not related to this bug.

For future warning, you can get yelled at for posting to bugs with output from an unofficial version of Wine. I do have a note about this on my website. If comment #11 doesn't work then please contact me by email and I will attempt to help you out.

C&C3 SHOULD install d3dx9 libraries along with the game... The last time I tested this was around 1.1.38, but I doubt that's changed.

--- Comment #13 from Bad Andy afreyed@hotmail.com 2010-03-16 06:01:53 --- So it was working for a few days after I installed d3dx9_36.dll but now it's back to crashing at the splash screen. I have no idea what changed, all I did was put my PC in a new case and add a 2nd HD.
Worse yet when i run the game in terminal all I get is 2 lines of output, then it truly seems to hang and I have to close the terminal window to stop the process.

Is this with official Wine or the "Kane Edition" from my website? If you are using the "Kane Edition" then please try with the official Wine (there's a bug in the currently posted version that I haven't had time to fix, though I haven't seen it affect C&C3).

I can't confirm this bug report. Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars v1.09 works fine here under 1.1.26 and also works under wine-1.1.42-182-g8f77dd8.

It works because the game installs some DLL overrides, most notably d3dx9_36. Otherwise you hit this : http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11675

--- Comment #23 from LanoxxthShaddow sbastig@gmx.net 2012-01-22 19:24:10 CST --- On Wine 1.3.37:
* Game starts and plays intro * Shows main menu and animations * Can choose firestorm or classic * Can start game (nod or gdi) * Plays the first level video sequence * After game has loaded it hangs, can not move cursor !!!
I guess the last one is a different bug, so we can mark this as fixed.

I just wanted to report that this problem is now also fixed (rc5). I can play C&C3 (Firestorm) without any problem now.
Thanks for all the great work that has been put into wine. :-)
