When I was testing this bug: https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=40725 I noticed that 8-bit Armies would show this line in the terminal before crashing:
fixme:d3dcompiler:compile_shader Compilation target "fx_5_0" not yet supported
Native d3dcompiler_43 via "winetricks d3dcompiler_43" works around the issue.
