Summary: MathCAD 2001: crashes while installing Product: WineHQ Apps Database Version: unspecified Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: appdb-unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: wine@kuksa.ru
Created an attachment (id=14182) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=14182) stderr
I'm trying to install mathcad on ubuntu 8.10 with wine-1.0 There are some installing activity in some seconds and then setup crashes.
Tryed on wine-0.9x and all 1.0RCs. The same.
Stderr begins with fixme:advapi:LookupAccountNameW (null) L"username" (nil) 0x33f7fc (nil) 0x33f800 0x33f7f4 - stub
I don't use any native dlls, but cat try to install something with winetools or copy any from my notebook's windows. I think, it's not any kind of crime, couse I have windows logo on the bottom of notebook and some junk cdroms from notebook vendor.
P.S. MathCAD is not a free application, so I can't give download URL here. I can make an archive with all setup files and put it on any file-share server. But without any serial numbers. :-/

--- Comment #8 from Al aldonis24@aim.com 2009-01-02 10:45:37 --- I too, am trying to install MathCad 2001 unsuccessfully.
I have the latest version of Wine (1.1.10) and tried to install IE6, Windows installer, MSXML and MDAC using winetricks. Had some problems with MSXML installation so, don't know if it installed or not.
The error message says: "1607: Unable to Install InstallShield Scripting runtime"
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13993
--- Comment #9 from Al aldonis24@aim.com 2009-01-02 10:57:53 --- I was able to get past the previously reported install shield error by using sudo -i to become super user during install.
I get a little farther into the script now. After I enter my name and serial number, I now get a dialog that says "This Product is only for sale in the United States and Canada. Please contact your software distributor"
Note that I am trying to install from an original MathCad 2001i installation disk and I have the original packaging with the Serial Number printed on it. So the Serial Number should be valid.
This sounds like some kind of license manager problem, or perhaps I haven't set my country to United States?

Don't run wine as root! That shouldn't make a difference, anyway. It may have been that using a new wineprefix fixed it.

--- Comment #11 from Jesse Barrack Schofield j.barrack.schofield@gmail.com 2009-01-08 16:56:11 --- I am having the exact same problem as Ruslan. When I try run the "wine setup.exe" the output in terminal is the same as his stderr attachment.
I am using Wine 1.0 from the Ubuntu 8.04.1 Repositories. I have a legitimate version of Mathcad 2001 installation CD. According to http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?appId=263&versionId=1402, Mathcad 2001 Professional installs perfectly fine on Wine 0.9.41, so why not Wine 1.0?

Thanks! I will do this and report back. Before I get too far, I have one question: For the step where I am to run a bisect, am I to identify 0.9.41 as "good" and 1.0.0 as "bad" w/ regard to Mathcad 2001?

Austin, do you have experience doing a regression test? I set 0.94 as the "good" and 1.0 as the "bad." I understand that I'm to continue compiling and attempting to install until there are no sections left to test. But after the first test, I recompile and when I try the install again I get this:
~/wine-git$ ./wine '/home/USER/Desktop/MATHCAD2001/setup.exe' preloader: Warning: failed to reserve range 00000000-60000000 wine client error:5b: version mismatch 339/307. Your wine binary was not upgraded correctly, or you have an older one somewhere in your PATH. Or maybe the wrong wineserver is still running? ~/wine-git$
This wasn't mentioned in the guide you linked, nor the troubleshooting links in that guide.

You're still running some wine app: $ wineserver -k $ rm -rf ~/.wine (You should test in a clean prefix each time)

You're still running some wine app: $ wineserver -k $ rm -rf ~/.wine (You should test in a clean prefix each time)
Thanks for your patience and help with this. I no longer get the PreLoader error, but I still get this when trying to test the second time:
wine: creating configuration directory '/home/USER/.wine'... wine client error:9: version mismatch 335/316. Your wine binary was not upgraded correctly, or you have an older one somewhere in your PATH. Or maybe the wrong wineserver is still running? wine: wineprefixcreate failed while creating '/home/USER/.wine'.
I did the commands as you directed and checked my home dir and System Monitor to make sure that ~/.wine was gone and that wineserver wasn't running. So might it be that wine binary did not upgrade correctly or I have an older one somewhere in my PATH? I'm not sure what either of those mean.
I'm stressing out a bit as I need this software to do my assignments for school. I may end up having to dual boot, which I don't want to do for just one program. Do you know of a service where I can pay to get this resolved?

Are you doing a 'make install' after each build (don't).
Are you running wine with: $ wine foo.exe (bad) or $ ~/wine-git/wine foo.exe (good)

Are you doing a 'make install' after each build (don't). Are you running wine with: $ wine foo.exe (bad) or $ ~/wine-git/wine foo.exe (good)
For the following I am in ~/wine-git
For compiling I am doing: "CC="ccache gcc" ./configure --verbose && make depend && make"
For testing I am doing: "./wine program_install.exe"
And, as noted, it is the installation process which fails. I don't actually get to test the program. If you're willing, I'd be happy to provide you with program. My professor distributed to us with permission from the software company in hopes of creating enough demand such that the University Installs it on lab computers.

--- Comment #19 from Jesse Barrack Schofield j.barrack.schofield@gmail.com 2009-01-09 16:33:35 --- So I decided to start over in trying to get this running. Surprisingly, I got a little farther along the line. Installation normally fails when InstallShield is working and the window closes on its own with no message. Now, I get a normal looking InstallShield window that reads "InstallShield Wizard Complete. The wizard was interrupted before Mathcad 2001 Professional could be installed... Click 'Finish' to exit the Wizard."
Here is the output from the terminal:
$ wine setup.exe fixme:advapi:LookupAccountNameW (null) L"USER" (nil) 0x33f7fc (nil) 0x33f800 0x33f7f4 - stub fixme:advapi:LookupAccountNameW (null) L"USER" 0x16a898 0x33f7fc 0x16a1d0 0x33f800 0x33f7f4 - stub err:ole:CoGetClassObject class {b01feb50-45ed-11d3-b444-00104b261643} not registered err:ole:CoGetClassObject no class object {b01feb50-45ed-11d3-b444-00104b261643} could be created for context 0x1 err:msi:ITERATE_Actions Execution halted, action L"StartUp" returned 1603
It's shorter and the failure is less mysterious. I hope that we're getting closer. I had I think the only thing that changed was the PreLoaderPageZero issue mentioned by Austin.
