ez-cdda sleep

I'm trying to get ez-cdda extractor to run, but when I do run it it just sits there...nothing graphical shows up, no signs of life in the program. I did a trace+relay and found that after the program is started, it immediately starts suspending the program over and over again as seen in the attached log file. Does anyone have any clue about this? -- James Hawkins

iTunes, 1608: Unable to create InstallDriver instance

Hi, with a fresh clean install of wine, trying to run iTunesSetup.exe gives the error given in the subject. It's related to DCOM, so Microsoft recommands to download DCOM95 or DCOM98 ... crawling again and again ... It turns out that some DCOM patches have been written, and TransGaming is ready to give them away as LGPL, asking for some Wine people to change their license to LGPL, too, instead of pure GPL. http://www.kernel-traffic.org/wine/wn20020522_123_print.html ok .. so I don't understand the whole implications of this, but, probably, switching these famous patches to LGPL would help much people to have their applications run under Wine. Did this point evolve since 2002 ? Did someone try to start a rewrite of the relevant patches (I don't think this is the good way to proceed, I would propose some compensation for their work to the GPL code writers) ? winedbg - No debug info showing

Hiya, I just hit a trap in a d3d8 test I was running, and winedbg isnt showing the module information (I've put a manual DebugBreak in, and stepped through the call to a fixme, and I see no info!). This was on my temporary wine machine, so I dont know if its ever worked before, but I have a basic (cvs) install, no special info. I am sure winedbg used to show the d3d8 functions in the past. Note that because they are in COM routines, they dont have to be exports, but I dont know if they are or not. nm d3d8.dll.so does seem to show the entrypoints, so is there anything I am missing - configuration wise, setup wise etc? Hi, I would like to work on the DllCanUnloadNow janitorial task, but I was wondering if there are any patches or examples of dll's that correctly implement this so that I can do it right. I would think that there would be a refCount variable that is incremented if dolock is true and decremented if dolock is false. Also, should the LockServer functions be listed in the spec files of the dlls? After implementing LockServer, it should be an easy matter to do a check for refCount == 0 to see if the dll can be unloaded or not. Am I heading in the right direction? -- James Hawkins

i report this post from comp.emulators.ms-windows.wine... hope i will not be boring, stupid or what. even if that's difficult :D first of all, excuse me for my bad english. but i hope it will be the worst thing that all of you will read here :)) i'm trying to port an industrial application on linux, some people suggested me to try to compile it using wine/winelib. i documented myself a bit on it, and i tried to build a sample application (as the user guide tells, winemine :D) but winemaker DOES NOT genreate any configure script! wine version is 14/9/2004 and was compiled from source on slackware 10.0 running on a via C3 (intel x86 100% compatibile). is there any suggestion or workaround, or maybe this is normal, or maybe then i'm forgetti something really stupid? (maybe not so stupid, don't think it makes a difference :D) i also tried to generate by myself a configure script, using tools as autoscan, autoheader and autoconf, and trying to "fine tune" the output script by hand, but i could not manage to get the application compile. something tells me i'm not on the right way to compile a greater, more complex program like i have to do :))) thanks anyway just for reading this post! have a nice day carlo

Scenario 2: App uses C++ dll, dll uses win32 calls Solution 1: Static link with the object files of the dll. Winebuild will resolve references to win32 calls. Solution 2: Use native .exe and dlls Solution 3: Compile as wine dll with one extern "C" dummy function that does nothing. Do _not_ attempt to export any C++ symbols. install the resulting .dll.so as: /usr/local/lib/wine/NAME.dll.so and place a soft link to it as /usr/local/lib/libNAME.dll.so Don't forget to install the .def file as: /usr/local/lib/wine/libNAME.def Link as a wine dll _and_ a unix .so. e.g: wineg++ -mwindows -o app.exe.so <opts> -lNAME -lNAME.dll In any dll or program that calls functions from the dll, place a call to your dummy function immediately after WinMain(). This will force winebuild to link to the dll and the loader to set up the Win32 function pointers in the dll. Due to dlopen magic the ctors/dtors for statics will only be called once. Greatly detailed and just what I need to try and get some of my win based programs to run in Linux. building on P3 for a P2

I want to run wine on a P2 laptop that doesn't have compiler and such installed. I have a P3 box that does. I looked over the results of ./configure and didn't see anything that looked like it had turned on any P3 specific options. I compared the results of CT_CTYPE1 GetStringTypeW() between Windows 2000 and Wine and found a lot of differences (about 12000 of them). Nothing really spectacular, e.g. codepoint 0x00b5 (MICRO SIGN) is classified C1_PUNCT in Win2k and (C1_ALPHA | C1_LOWER) in Wine. I noticed that the Wine table is generated from information on ftp.unicode.org, so I'm wondering if the table generation is correct or if Microsoft made some strange choices? Gé van Geldorp.

Setting DllOverrides by script

I stopped concentrating for quite a few months and now the whole config system has changed.!! Any chance of some help? When we released the previous version of our product on Linux we included a couple of perl scripts etc. for setting up the Wine suitably, including adding a couple of drives, setting the path, modifying dll overrides. Now I am trying to figure out how to do it all with the new config system. Doing the drives is easy; a couple of symlinks. Doing the path is easy; regedit /s /E and regedit /s <filename> The problem I am having is with the DLL overrides. I see that they are now based on HKLM\Software\Wine\Wine\DllOverrides. How do I get them in? It seems to me that the only way that works is to edit the config itself and then restart the wineserver. Is that correct? Regression to Get IE Help to Work after September Snapshot

I could not get IE Help, or any application based on it, to work after the September snapshot. I did a regression and identified the commit of 20040824 16:00:16 CDT as causing the problem. This commit edits this patch: http://cvs.winehq.org/patch.py?id=13475 Among other things this patch changes wine/dlls/Makefile.in wine/configure.ac wine/configure I discovered during the regression that if I use ./tools/wineinstall and let wine set up my fake windows and .wine/config file I couldn't get IE Help to work. However, I used the September snapshot to test this, if I do "./configure, make depend && make" followed by install" and used a .wine generated by wine before the commit I identified, IE Help works. I also noticed when I found the patch that it was edited today to change the files that I noted above, but I can't tell if the changes address the subject of this post. I'm a real rookie when it comes to reading this patches and can suppy only information to this list. If it will help, I will be more than happy to create "diff" files from the "before and after" wine versions to help close in on the situation. Dan

I got this communicat: fixme:ntdll:TIME_GetTZAsStr Can't match system time zone name "UTC" to an entry in TZ_INFO fixme:ntdll:TIME_GetTZAsStr Please add appropriate entry to TZ_INFO and submit as patch to wine-patches so I wanted to send patch, but "UTC" is time convencion, not Local Time Zone. I've checked my Linux configuration: $ date sob paź 2 23:06:33 UTC 2004 It seems to be bad Linux configuration, but it's my default configuration (I use Fedora Core 2, my Local Time Zone is CEST). Troubles with GetVarDesc function.

Hi: Recently I've been having troubles with the GetVarDesc function. It's supposed to return the description of a COM server's property(given the property index), but instead, it returns the description of one of the methods of the COM server. I've realized that the varlist list of the ITypeInfo class is filled with the COM server methods, and it must be filled with properties. I think the problem is in MSFT_DoVars function, which is the responsible of the creation of varlist. I've fixed the problem just actualizing the offset variable to point to the begin of the variables description, instead of the begin of the functions description (the bold line below), I don't know if this is the right place to make the correction, but definitely It has solved my problem. .............................. offset = offset + (cFuncs*sizeof(INT)); for(i=0;i<cVars;i++){ .............................. WINEDLLOVERRIDES for all dlls?

Hi, I'm working on getting ie6 sp1 to install without using any native dlls. The install is fine until about 78% of the way through installing the files, the installer loads a native advapi32 that it downloaded to a temp directory and then the install seems to pause as this message is continuously printed: fixme:thunk:CommonUnimpStub generic stub: ? I used WINEDLLOVERRIDES="advapi32=b" WINEDEBUG=+loaddll, and it still shows the downloaded native advapi32.dll being loaded. Does WINEDLLOVERRIDES only take dll's that are in the windows\system directory into account? I have a feeling that the install would go smoother if the builtin advapi32 was loaded instead of the native one. I'm guessing that the installer is calling LoadLibary("path to native advapi32")...that's just a guess though. -- James Hawkins

Problems with MSI installer

Hello I am trying to install an EXE file packed with MSI. I installed InstMsiA before running the program, but the installer don't finish, stay in endless loop when copying the files, and progress bar is over 70%. I put WINEDEBUG=trace+all and show PENDING() when the installer stop. I ran wine with WINEDLLOVERRIDES="*advapi32=b", WINEDLLOVERRIDES="*advapi32=b;msi=n", WINEDLLOVERRIDES="*advapi32=b;msiexec.exe=n" and WINEDLLOVERRIDES="*advapi32=b;msi,msiexec.exe=n", only the last option let the installer advance but don't finish. So what event wait installer for to continue? Do i need override other(s) dlls when use MSI installer? Hi, I've been trying to get Easy CD Extractor to work for a while now, and the program ezcddax.exe is having some weird (possibly) scheduling and threading problems, so in the meantime I've looked at some of the other exe's that Easy Cd Extractor installed. One such exe is burn.exe. When I run this, it seemingly immediately exits. I added an ERR in this function to see what filename it was getting, and it is: err:module:GetModuleFileNameA filename: L"C:\\Program Files\\Easy CD-DA Extractor 7\\burn.exe" which is the path of the program. After this call, burn.exe starts the exit process. Maybe burn.exe didn't like the results from GetModuleFileName? I'm not exactly experienced with analyzing debug logs, so I'm probably way off, but hopefully I'll get better. -- James Hawkins

How to deal with C++ APIs in wine spec file

In other words, you can only call third party C++ dlls if you're compiling with MSVC, as far as I know. And you can't compile winelib apps with MSVC, since MSCV only generates Windows apps, not Linux apps. So you may be out of luck. Can you write a windows app rather than a winelib app? I'm not very familiar with this tool so all I can say is that it does not have compilation errors at startup and seems to behave rationally. Changelog: * tools/make_authors Switch to 'perl -w' and add 'use strict;'. main menu bar problem

Hi, We developed an application under windows with borland cbuilder 5 and now we want run under linux with wine (not using an windows partition). We have tried with the latest version ( compiled and installed from CVS ) under "debian testing" linux distribution. This is mainly an opengl application and almost everything works fine but the menu bar dont works, clicking to the menu bar but nothing happened. It seems there is a problem with opengl and the main window. We have tested an other application that uses opengl but with an MDI child window (this works, opengl area in MDI window, main menu in the main window). The original application doesn't have an MDI window. So I think the problem: the main menu is it in the opengl area. Is it possible? We've tested a third application : it has the same problem ( main menu cant be clicked, and this not an MDI application ) We have tried wine in debian-stable, debian-testing, CVS.
