Notes on implementing mscms.dll - for anybody who's interested in digital colour management

Hi, For whoever is interested in running Phase One's Capture One software (http://www.phaseone.com/) on Wine, you'll need mscms.dll for Colour Management. Unfortunately Wine has no implementation of it yet. I had a quick look into what is needed to implement mscms.dll (http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/icm/icmsta…) It appears the functionality of mscms.dll is mostly defined by the International Color consortium (http://www.color.org), and a free implementation exists(http://www.littlecms.com/, and is available as a (shared?) library on many distros. I think it's feasable to interface that library to an mscms.dll implemented in Wine. Its a pointer to a structure. By running native cabinet.dll i found that the dll allocates two memory areas per file inside the cabinet that are not freed within the extract function. The first memory area is always 12 bytes. The size of the second one is the length of the filename without path plus 1. Hello all, I had completed the patch for IPersistFile::Load() and associated functions. In the last patch which I had submitted for review here, Mike McCormack had pointed out an incorrect assumption that I had made about all locales being DBCS. Thanks to him, many of you will not suffer ;) Now that I fixed that last (?) weeny, I had sent it to Mike for a review. However, it seems he's a bit down now, and after waiting for about a week for his reply, I thought maybe I should ask you guys to nitpick ;) I really send this in because I went through Mike Kost's post 'More Games Tested', and I saw lots of 'err:menubuilder' and 'err:menubuilder:WinMain failed to build menu item for C:\windows\Start Menu\Programs\.......\ShortcutName.lnk' messages in his report. Hopefully, this patch should solve it ... If I get any bug reports, I will be happy to fill them out,else this one's going to Alexandre (with a few cosmetic changes of course !) We don't need a A: drive, it's mostly useless these days anyhow (and can be accessed through other means anyhow). Yes, we need C: to be writable and have the Windows directories, which means it can't point to /. Fine. So we'll need another one (Z is OK) to point to /. For perfect usability however, we would need definitions for CD drives ... So Alexandre seems to be right: something at boot time needs to look for devices. Or we can just have C: point to /, and install a symlink into / for the Windows dir. But then we'll have to always follow symlinks which can be a problem. Darn! -- Dimi.

event.c freezes on XFilterEvent

Hi, I'm rather new to wine developement, and Xlib coding, and this is my first post to the list so bare with me please.... ;-) dlls/x11drv/event.c seems to freeze at XFilterEvent and brings the app to seizure ever since all the TSX functions have been gotten rid off... This is what happens: I run notepad, and start typing. Everything works fine until I hit shift+space which is the toggle for XIM (kinput in my case). Notepad freezes here. The trace on keyboard tells me that there is no character for the key combination and freezes right after; trace:keyboard:KEYBOARD_MapDeadKeysym no character for dead keysym 0x0000ffe1 >From my investigation, it seems that XFilterEvent (event.c, function process_events) <code> ignore = XFilterEvent( &event, None ); </code> is causing this. If I get rid of the whole check, and pass all the events to EVENT_ProcessEvent() , notepad would not freeze. XFilterEvent is supposed to return TRUE when the event is filtered by the XIM, but chances are that since the XIM functionalities are currently not really there, XFilterEvent cannot talk to the XIM context. As far as I remember when the TSX functions were there, the XIM window did pop up(despite XIM not working properly). I'm trying to trace the changes to see what might be causing this, but without much luck so far... I'm more than willing to try and fix this, as XIM support is critical for people from my part of the world (Japan, and most likely for Korea & China). We've been coming up with rather crude patches to have XIM work till now(upto 20031118), but can't get it to work because of this strange freezure we are experiencing.... If we also had working defaults for the users cdrom drive(s) and floppy drive then this would work quite well. Many users will want to install applications from cdrom. Do you really mean / and not ~? I sure don't want my C: pointing at /. And if there are more than one user how do I keep their stuff separate. Still having problems with Wine CVS

Hi, I posted before in wine-users, but I haven't had any answer. I compiled, as usual, wine from cvs, but in the last weeks I have this error every file I try to run: err:msg:QUEUE_CreateMsgQueue Cannot get thread queueMain exe initialization for L"C:\\Program Files\\DepWalker\\depends.exe" failed, status c0000142 Only the path changes (correctly), the status code is always the same. AutoCad 2000 latest status ?

I know there are interests in autocad 2000 status with wine. I was happy to read in http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?appId=86&versionId=102 that autocad 2000 actually starts up now, although there seams to be a file open problem. Hack for the '-pthread' at make depend

On my configuration, the 'artsc-config' script outputs '-pthread' along with the '-Isth' entries. That broke the 'makedep' procedure. It's trivial. The following patch handles this.

Registering the dlls? Is this the same as loading them? How would we know which dll was responsible for creating which registry entries? Is it that clear which one should do it? Would the code called during registration check to see if the default keys existed and if it didn't install the default values? Would the inf file be mostly keys we've added for workarounds with apps like installshield installers? I'm asking because I'd really like to have wine create its own default config to simplify the users life and wineinstall, and I'd also like to simplify package managers lives so they don't need to many special scripts. I'm also interested in integrating the ~/.wine/config file into the registry. So feel free to suggest places to look, work and what direction to head. Any experts on IsDialogMessage

Hi All Happy New Year to everyone and Welcome Back to Alexandre I am just about to start concentrating on IsDialogMessage, especially in the non-dialog context. Our program (suite) uses ActiveX controls extensively and is difficult to use because the TAB handling in particular is totally wrong. I will be using a trivial program with IsDialogMessage inserted into the main loop and will be trying to figure out the undocumented behaviour of this function (e.g. I am sure it internally handles redirecting to children etc.) The only comments I've noticed so far (about a year back) suggest that we really don't know much about this function, but I thought I'd ask if someone else has notes about what is wrong with it, how it should work, alternative web sites etc. or has uncommitted patches etc., just so that I don't duplicate work. Hi, not sure if anyone else has experienced this. since patch http://cvs.winehq.com/patch.py?id=10332 was added to cvs (20031205), if I type a dead_diaeresis - "¨" followed by a letter, which would normally produce a "ë" or a "ü" it simply makes wine hang. removing this patch(I removed it on latest cvs) and the problem goes away, can someone find out why this causes an issue? -- grant williamson <traxtopel(a)fastmail.fm>

Windows dll replacement with Linux library

Hi, I wrote to the list a few weeks ago. I needed to support a USB device without changing the Windows dll that I have to use. I was trying to hack into wine to implement support for the USB device using CreateFile() and DeviceIoControl(). That was not a clean solution. The author of the Windows dll has agreed to support a mid level dll that would implement functions like USBDeviceOpen(), USBDeviceClose(), USBDeviceRead(), and USBDeviceWrite(). On Windows those would use CreateFile() and DeviceIoControl(), while on Linux they would use libusb calls. I followed the example from winelib user guide, chapter 5 "Using Linux libraries as DLLs" As an example I will talk just about USBDeviceOpen(). Here it is how it is declared together with a proxy function: HANDLE WINAPI USBDeviceOpen(const DWORD in_dwIndex); HANDLE WINAPI USBDeviceOpenProxy(const DWORD in_dwIndex); This function opens a specific device from a specific manufacturer. Its a good thing it was called pre5. After this one there are still a few minor things with one of the source files calling Heap_StrsupWtoA that needs to be moved inline and the NONAMELESS stuff. I have not done any work to address the NONAMELESSSTRUCT stuff except to just remove all cases of s1.u1 in ReactOS sources I ported. None of my patches to wine-patches reflect this change. If this is accepted I will send a patch in a few days to remove printdlg.h and to move a strdupW2A function inline in the offending source file. Once these changes are done and the NONAMELESS stuff is solved then comdlg32 will be mostly done of all Win16/32, PSDK and Wineism cleanups. Which brings up a good point, is there an easy way to distribute one? Dear all, I'm making efforts to let a program which is compiled with winelib run with wine uninstalled. This program was for windows initially, I managed to compile it under Linux(Redhat) with winelib. Now I have got the files "program" and "program.exe.so" and they run well on a PC with wine installed, but I want it to run with wine uninstalled. I think I can realize that by copying the .so files located in /usr/local/lib/wine to a new place and use them, but there are still problems, I got a "Segmentation fault" by now. Who can tell me how can I do with it or if the idea is feasible? I am a newbie of winelib, I've browsed the articles of the last three months in the mailist but couldn't find the answer I want. winecfg to configure directsound options?

I was planning to add the audio driver as a configuration option in winecfg but had a few questions. Does anyone use the directsound options? If so it probably makes sense to have an "Audio" tab in winecfg with the audio driver and the dsound options. If not then it might make sense to put the audio driver alone on another page, maybe the general config page? Should we have a multimedia page? What other multimedia options would go there? Just wanted to let people know. And share this happy moment with my fellow workman I have successfully Beta released a WinLib port of a, 1 million lines of code, windows program. QA will Install a first Linux Machine and will start to bang on it tomorrow. (Well more like an advanced Alfa I guess) Technologies successfully compiled and running in the Project: - Windows GUI & API (wrapped in an Old C++ lib, ZAFF). - ODBC under CRecordSet from MFC - I use the MSSQL drivers, SQLing data from a neighboring WinXP-SQL Server. I used an mdac.exe installation application from Microsoft. With ODBC32 native DLL. - General MFC contains, Strings, OleDispatch OleVariant OleBSTR... and even some GUI. - Actually to manage that I had an MSVC++ wizard generated MFC MDI Application with ODBC access and forms. Which helped me debug the MFC library. So MFC is pretty much covered. - ATL/WTL OCX hosting and General ATL use for anything COM. - Here too a WTL app-wizard generated MDI application with IE and other OCXes on Forms help me verify the ATL subsystem. Including support for "uuidof", "#pragma property" and more. Hosting and Events work fine. ( actually ActiveX controls compile too, but TLB problem must be resolved.) - A solution for Linking with C++ shared libraries that in-turn also use windows API. (I call them C++ fake DLLs.) - C++ STL from STLPort ported to Wine to compile using msvcrt (and MFC) And more stuff I cannot remember now. By far the biggest problem was the msvcrt vs STL. and other native C++. This caused a big Linking problem where STL would bypass msvcrt but other application code would not. This proved to be fatal. From circular linking to allocators not matching to Libraries not able to load. Since MFC and ATL would not even think to compile with out msvcrt Headers and lib the issue had to be resolved. The only way I managed to solve it all is by directly linking msvcrt GCC style into STLPort and into every module there of. Now that would make some conflicts with OCX's like IE6 that can only run with native msvcrt.dll, so I also had to change it's name. One of the thing I would like to eventually do is Make a static msvcrt library using same source code but having different make files to be used in such situations where it has to be directly linked. Tomorrow I will start synchronization with wine current tree. Once I have it synced (2 days max). I will need someone to help me and guide me on how to send it all in. Dimi, will that be you? It uses a registry key(I'm not sure if this is the correct path for the key since I didn't see any other config keys in the registry) and creates a key with the defaults if no key exists. Hi, I put together a feedback window for winetest. The code is somewhat inside-out to make it less intrusive, and the dialog is ugly. Where can one find a dialog editor? Anyway: 1. If compiled with Winelib, the dialog stays on screen after the main thread finishes with the tests; under Windows, it disappears at once. 2. I am not sure what to do with the console which pops up under Windows. Under Wine it comes and goes. 3. When the cross-compiled version run under Wine the GUI thread throws an exception at the very end. It seems to come from the statusbar's WM_PAINT. I am clueless. 4. How can I convert the icons into ASCII to put them into the resource script? 5. Do we actually need textual output at all? Comments are welcome. Find the programs/winetest directory enclosed. Hi Steven, I have a pretty big patch against the system tray code, and it's going to get bigger. Hopefully in the next few days I will get time to properly reverse engineer (if it's not already documented) the interaction between shell32 and explorer, so we can implement this using a separate wineshell executable. Is there anything you need from us for ReactOS? Hi Peter, I'm guessing that you are probably using the sourceforge cvs - which it looks like we accidentally imported rewind into. That would explain why there is no d3d8 / d3d9. I'll remove the rewind import from sourceforge in a tick. Out of curiosity, where did you go that directed you to sourceforge? Is it some place that we have not updated? I found some time over the holidays to run several game demos under Wine to see if there was more debugging fodder to be found. All the games come from Shrapnel Games (www.shrapnelgames.com) - I went through their demos looking for the magic words "DirectX" and "OpenGL". I know that this is off topic, but I decided to see how the winex cvs compared to wine cvs. I done a checkout of winex from sourceforge.net and I noticed that the directories containing the d3d8 and 9 code had been removed from cvs. This prevented all of my games (gta3) from running under winex. Does anyone know what happened to these directories and why they were removed?
