Hi, As part of a program that creates an instance of MSXML2.DOMDocument, I get the following errors: fixme:ole:CoCreateInstance no classfactory created for CLSID {00000323-0000-0000-c000-000000000046}, hres is 0x80040154 fixme:ole:CoCreateInstance no classfactory created for CLSID {6c736db1-bd94-11d0-8a23-00aa00b58e10}, hres is 0x80040154 (actually there are some more beforehand, but they don't seem fatal). Anyway, the first one seems to be StdGlobalInterfaceTable, which MSDN indicates should be implemented by Windows. Is this right, and if so, does Wine implement it? I grepped the sources and the only mention is in an IDL file, so I'd assume not. thanks -mike

Problem in listview with LVM_OWNERDATA set too late

The test program http://www.kegel.com/ownerdata.exe shows a problem with OWNERDATA listview controls which pick up that attribute after being created. (No, this is not per the spec. Yes, a real program does that.) To see the problem, run ownerdata.exe, and select "View / Capture View". The window should NOT be blank. Methinks it's a bug, or at least a missing feature, in our listview. Dimi Paun thinks so, too, and wants me to file a bug about it. Wine dependancies

Just as a quick continuation from Dans mail, I thought I'd find out what libs Wine actually required, at least on my build. Running: ( for f in *.so; do ldd $f | sed 's/ =>.*//'; done ) | sort | uniq in the $prefix/lib/wine/ directory produced the following list: libc.so.6 libdl.so.2 libgcc_s.so.1 libGLcore.so.1 libGL.so.1 libGLU.so.1 libICE.so.6 libjpeg.so.62 /lib/ld-linux.so.2 libm.so.6 libncurses.so.5 libntdll.dll.so libSM.so.6 libstdc++.so.5 libungif.so.4 libwine.so libwine_unicode.so libX11.so.6 libXext.so.6 The inclusion of libgcc_s and libstdc++ is from the Direct3D code I think, I didn't realise there were deps on the c++ libs. Otherwise, it's a remarkably short list. I think maybe quite a few of the libs are detected at runtime, I know there was a patch to make OpenGL code detected like this (as opposed to enabled at compile time) - despite having a driver for the Jack sound server in this directory for instance, there is no dependancy on libjack. The other libs are fairly standard and would be present on almost all installations. Relay trace indenting?

Just wondering if anyone has written a script or something that does indenting of relay traces. I don't know how other people handle these, but I find that I invariably spend a lot of time indenting the calls in relay trace files to make them easier to follow. It would seem like something that someone would already have an automated method of handling (or maybe I'm the only one that does this).

Bug in WineDbg

The exception message is shown and a dbg xterm window has been opened. After exiting from gdb winedbg exits. Is this a bug? WineLib Application

Hi ALL, I've made WineLib applicatiion with COM support. The first problem is: when I try to call Release() method for interfaces, I have unhandled exception. But I have to clean memory by myself! It seems to me that WineLib Releases all interfaces before me. The second problem: How can I package my application to install it on another computer? Can I avoid Wine installation on that computer? x11drv, ntdll separation

Hi I was wanting to do some work on x11drv dll separation. The last remaining dll separation between x11drv and ntdll is VIRTUAL_SetFaultHandler. This is called from X11DRV_DIB_CreateDIBSection, where it tries to set the fault handler to X11DRV_DIB_FaultHandler, with addr=dm.dmBits and arg=res. From reading the code it seems that this is done because it is not known whether the calling app requires read or write access to the data in bmp. If the app then tries to read or write and doesn't have the appropriate access, this will generate an exception which will then raise the X11DRV_DIB_FaultHandler which would then set the appropriate access, in a way that ensures data gets handled correctly. I presume I'm misunderstanding this, because looking at MSDN for CreateDIBSection, it says: The CreateDIBSection function creates a device-independent bitmap (DIB) that applications can write to directly. and further down... Windows NT: You need to guarantee that the GDI subsystem has completed any drawing to a bitmap created by CreateDIBSection before you draw to the bitmap yourself. Access to the bitmap must be synchronized. Do this by calling the GdiFlush function. So it would seem apps could always be given read-write access to this bitmap. Why is the special fault handler needed? What is the best way to approach getting rid of it? David

Wine 0.9 config applets?

Some programs send TCM_SETITEMSIZE message with Width set to new width and Height is set to 0. When TCM_FIXEDWIDTH flag is set these programs want to leave height unchanged. DLL Mapping in wine?

When I use winedbg I noticed that it lists all the DLLs and so files that are loaded. In case of DLLs that are already present in wine the original DLL is requested and the appropriate so file is loaded. Where is that mapping done for wine to determine which so to load? I noticed that there is a setupapi.dll.so but the program tries to load setupapi.dll and setupx.dll.so is loaded instead. Is this correct? I would have expected setupapi.dll.so to be loaded. OpenGL woes

I've got a strange behavior with OpenGL: - an app A, tries to load another app B - on B startup, in x11drv init, the OpenGL initialization goes havoc: after the dl_open is made, fs:teb gets corrupted (ie gets changed) the point where this change is made varies over time (I assume, the OpenGL lib creates a thread, and depending on thread sync, it happens at various points) - more interesting, the second time one tries to launch B from A, it succeeds (in that case the corruption doesn't occur) those "features" didn't appear before Alexandre latest fd changes to the server, but I don't think that's a bug in there. It looks more like a timing/sync issue that the latest changes uncovered, but it likely existed before and where less prone to happen my OpenGL libs are from nvidia. Does anyone know what libGL does behind our back ? is there we can do against it ? A+ -- Eric Pouech

Well, from what I understand from D3D and GL this is wrong. This code should rather be in the DrawPrimitive call when the 'D3DRENDERSTATE_EDGEANTIALIAS' flag is set to TRUE (and only for lines). The 'D3DRENDERSTATE_ANTIALIAS' flag is used to enable full-scene anti-aliasing (something that is NOT controlled by OpenGL function call at all). The only thing that GL provides is this, but it has a caveat as seen in the man page for glEnable : GL_POLYGON_SMOOTH If enabled, draw polygons with proper filtering. Otherwise, draw aliased polygons. For correct anti-aliased polygons, an alpha buffer is needed and the polygons must be sorted front to back. So if we use it, we need to have an Alpha buffer, set ourselves the blend factors and ask the application to send the primitives sorted (see Red Book for a discussion on that). If you want to really enable anti-aliasing, you can (on NVIDIA drivers) by setting an environment variable (__GL_FSAA_MODE). I have no idea if any GL extension is planned to control anti-aliasing from GL itself, this could be asked to people participating in the GL ARB meetings (like Brian Paul or people like him). Hi, Is there a reason e:\test is in the default path when I install from CVS? (this dir does not exist) There is no windows version defined in the [Version] block, should a windows version be defined to use as default? Drive F: was setup as CDROM, even though the ./tools/wineinstall said it could not find the CDROM during the process I think. Checking fstab for "cdrom" would determine the cdrom drive(s) on most computers. [Drive C] was setup as type "win95", however its had label "MS-DOS", I think this would be better as "wine" by default, could this be considered please? Regards JG

Thanks for the feedback. I know the debugging code is getting out of hand but what is the recommended way of providing useable traces. Should the debug code be put in a separate file? Are there standard routines for converting constants to readable strings? I'm new to wine so I don't know what the current practices are yet. The critical section was put in there because there is the potential of accessing that variable from all three threads. It's overkill now and probably not needed but I'm trying to track down some weird behavior in full duplex mode. That variable stores the state of both the read and write threads so we need to do bit opps on it. The current behavior of the driver reorders commands by placing ones that must be waited on at the head of the queue. Not sure why but I added that #define to allow it to be disabled. It makes the capture code more stable and deterministic. It defaults to the current behavior. I was running into under run problems in the capture thread where it had data to save but no headers to put it in. The headers were in the queue but ignored until after the timeout period. I added code to peek into the queue rather than giving up and it fixed the under run problem. I'm also having problems with the mixer and primary buffers and am trying to figure them out but I suspect a similar problem. The OSS people don't recommend using multiple threads for reading and writing. Three are currently used: the main app thread where the sound device is opened, one for writing and one for reading. Could this have something to do with my full duplex problems? audio.c is getting big with both input and output and wave and direct sound all together. Do we want to break it up someday? What about hardware mixing? Is anyone working on redesigning this? My needs are short term. I need to get my app working under wine right now but I would like to see direct sound audio better integrated someday and am willing to help. Thanks, Bob. Hello, A couple of aliases in wcmd would make life much simpler, common commands all have unix style alternatives such as dir -> ls, copy -> cp etc, could these be added as aliases of the DOS commands please? in the same way that dir works in the bash shell because it is aliased to ls. Regards JG

Hello, After reading through my "config" file I pondered why the default Wine installation dir was c:\windows, in MS-Windows 9x,ntxx etc the instalation dir can be anything, "windows" and "winnt" being common defaults, as well as "win2k" I saw on some custom install machines. There is an enviroment variable and "config", "Windows" setting in the [wine] block and perhaps a registry setting for this. Would it be more appropriate to use "wine" as the instalation dir? e.g. "c:\wine" Regards JG

Dear WINE developers, I develop an MS windows app and just got it working under WINE/Linux. It's call LTspice/SwitcherCADIII. It's a free schematic capture/SPICE simulator obtainable from www.linear.com/software. I've noticed a few things about WINE that might help you improve it. WINE can confuse SendMessage() with PostMessage(). LTspice uses SendMessage to handshake between threads sometimes. Wine usually obeys the difference, but treated some SendMessage calls like a PostMessage. My workaround was to poll volatile global variables. I needed to add some redraws to clear up some differences between WINE and Windows dialog box updates. This was for a tab control that make different controls on the pane visible or not depending on tab selection. Also LTspice draws directly to the screen and carefully counts the number of times it XOR'ed something with the screen. That behaved a bit different between WINE and Windows. Again, I found workarounds for most of it. I'm not sure, but maybe it's just a difference between obeying the SetROP2() setting for CDC::SetPixel() calls. The version of LTspice I put up on the web today, 2.01c, works quite well under WINE/Linux. The main problem with it is that the RoboHelp isn't working. Any advice there? A few other WINE issues: 1. The icons drawn on Property sheet tabs have a black background in WINE. In Windows it's the background color. You can see the problem on the Tools=>Control Panel tab icons. 2. The resize grip on the lower right hand corner of resizeable dialogs is drawn like a scrollbar. Hi, Right, I've been Googling this one up, and I've found some information, but it's a few years old so I'm not sure if it's current... Has anybody had any success compiling and executing Wine on Win32? I know, it seems a bizzare concept, but I have legitament reasons to want to use Wine on Windows. There are some emails dating back to 2000 online saying it compiles on cygwin, but I'm not sure if this is still the case... Plus, ideally I'd be looking for a native port... Hello, While converting some paths, i had to frequently modify case.. Would it be possible for the fake wine drives use lower case names for their directorys by default? In MS-Windows different case is not a different file name. So I don't believe it will not make any difference to the program. The "config" has a mixture of all uppercase, and lowercase etc From wcmd there is also a mixture in the environment vars: COMSPEC=C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\wcmd.exe PATH=d:\vs\vc98\bin;d:\vs\common\msdev98\bin;c:\windows;c:\windows\system TEMP=E:\ TMP=E:\ windir=C:\WINDOWS winsysdir=C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM USERPROFILE=C:\windows\Profiles\Administrator SYSTEMROOT=C:\WINDOWS the vars would be best in uppercase too IMO, as they are not differentiated. hi, I am not a developer, please do not hurt me! I want to run dvd2one from www.dvd2one.com to "clone" my dvds! Every time I try to start the program, I get this error: wine win/dvd2one102.exe Could not stat /mnt/fd0 (No such file or directory), ignoring drive A: Could not stat /cdrom (No such file or directory), ignoring drive D: fixme:win32:PE_CreateModule Unknown directory 15 ignored wine: Unhandled exception, starting debugger... has somebody of you a solution for this? I tried it with and without native wininstallation, but everytime the same error. So if you want to spend a little bit of time for it, go on www.dvd2one.com and download the trial version! The program is absolutly great, and , there is no native linux tool that can do the same and i believe that there never will be one! thanks in advance for your help thorsten p.s. please don´t ignore me!

Success! I was able to run Road Rash by Electronic Arts on a Wine No Windows install. This is great to see cause just a couple of months ago this game would not run. Config: RedHat 8.0 KDE 3.1 - arts sound WINE CVS 2/26/03 I did run the app in desktop 640x480 mode. And did have some issues with MIDI sounds, but it does that on some windows machines too. Kevin

I installed mingw under Wine today, and aside from the EULA etc. showing up blank in the installer, it installed just fine. And it even compiles programs ok! Cool! Unfortunately, mingw's gcc causes Wine to emit zillions of warnings like this: Warning: L"/mingw/lib/gcc-lib/mingw32/specs" not accessible from a configured DOS drive Seems like somehow Wine should have been able to avoid issuing that warning. Oh, ok, mingw could stick a drive letter on the path, or use \ as a dir separator, but it shouldn't have to, should it? - Dan p.s.
