Greetings, I've been trying to get StarSiege Tribes 1 to work on wine, basicly this is what's currently wrong: * As soon as any key is pressed, wine quits = Fix with native dinput.dll version dx4->dx6 * Opengl isn't detected and impossible to choose = Currently no fix, although it works to use glidewrappers. Don't know what Tribes uses to detect opengl. The basic errors i'm getting in the terminal is. fixme:dinput:IDirectInputDevice2AImpl_EnumObjects (!stub) fixme:dsound:IDirectSoundImpl_SetCooperativeLevel err:dinput:SysMouseAImpl_Unacquire Unacquiring a not-acquired device !!! The first fixme, makes me hope that if that is fixed it might get Tribes to work using our own builtin dinput.dll My other question is this, if i want to use glide (got a voodoo3) how do i enable and use this in wine? Do i do a ./configure --enable-glide or --with-glide ? And so on.. I've compiled Mesa with glide support and installed the glidev3 package (using gentoo). Haven't been able to find any info on the homepage or mailing lists, and if needed i could compile a nfo file covering the subject once i understand it better. I would like to point out also that Tribes is working quite well in software mode and since late fall last year i've noticed that many problems has dissapeared. hi guys, in dlls/icmp/icmp_main.c would it be possible to use system("/bin/ping..."); if not running as uid 0?, (or using pipes if the ouput needs to be parsed) as /bin/ping is obviously usually suid root and if the required options are available as arguments to /bin/ping then wine can do as requested without running as root, this would be useful to me with something im working on. if you guys do consider it a possibility, i would be willing to research it and write the patch, id just like the go-ahead from you :) if you can think of any other way round it, id be greatful to hear your suggestions. _________________________________________________________________ Worried what your kids see online? For pop-up and childs windows if witdh = CW_USEDEFAULT, width and height are set to 0. For overlapped windows, the width and height are set to make the lower-right corner of the windows corresponds to the lower_right corner of the screen. So the question is why does the game create a pop-up instead of a standard windows. That would be cool if we can solve this issue. Building crosstest ...

Hi everyone, Apologies for the rambling email, but here's a bit of a brain-dump. I don't know how much of this people already know about ... After banging my head against a wall for the past week or so, I've put together a script that builds a cross-compiling mingw. The cross-compiler should be suitable for building .EXE conformance test executables and is available from: http://www.astro.gla.ac.uk/users/paulm/Scripts/build-mingw-cross.sh Have a look at the top of the script to see how to get things working. (yes, I know /. has just done this, but their HOWTO is old, circa '99) That should be enough to get mingw for cross-compiling under wine, but there's still problems with the crosstest target for me. Using the current CVS, crosstest depends on winebuild. But the cross-compilation doesn't actually use winebuild. Worse, it fails whilst trying to building winebuild (missing libraries), if you haven't already built wine. I guess winebuild is missing some dependencies. Just an idea that could be of use. Since the __errno_location cannot be replaced anymore in glibc 2.3, isn't it possible to replace the %gs segment instead - Wine could create it's own %gs segments for it's threads, containing the errno's address where glibc is ecpecting it to be. Lucho

Can you please add alt, height and width statements to the paypal button? It's completely invisible with konqueror otherwise (yes, I do have image loading diabled :-). The same is true for most pictures on the winehq pages. On a related topic: When will the new web pages be moved to winehq? GDI question

Hi, I'm testing some apps installation with either the free WineHQ, WineX, Crossover Office, and many times I see buttons and other GUI related stuff in the wrong size or place, and I understand it's a GDI related issue, so here's 3 questions.. 1. Is the GDI implementation is so bad that it needs hacking per app to make it look ok? 2. Is there a way to take GDI parts from native WIndows and use it in Wine? 3. Funding - can any company (transgaming, CodeWeavers, others) can estimate the cost of rewriting a better (and faster - the speed of Wine graphics today is something in magnitude of 486 PC!) GDI? Windows API database / map

I've begun cross referencing the windows dlls in a 'map' format as Dan Kegel suggested. I'm not finished yet because it seems when I sort alphabetically I am sorting the entire path. If anyone has comments or suggestions on how to improve it or the next logical step please let me know.

I suggest you read the GNU manifesto. Then how can we figure out how to get a desktop shell working etc? There is one possible significant difference between installation of a program and changing disks in the course of a game as you describe: in the first case wine is running setup.exe which is on the CD, and hence wine has processes open which access the CD drive. In your case wine is running the game program which has been transferred to the hard disk. It is now Riven which accesses the CD drive and (conceivably) when the time comes to change the CD, it will first close down all processes which use the drive. Maybe. Thanks for your comments. Large number of patches

We've been putting a fair bit of work into wine over the last 6-8 months, and we've only recently had time to sit back and make patches- so sometime in the next couple of days I should have about 30 patches to submit. Most of them under 100 lines, but a few are over 200 lines and the biggest is about 600 lines long. Some of them are solaris/big-endian specific, but the majority of them are not. I'll have the patches as separate patch files with ChangeLog entries and descriptions - the question is whether I should submit them to wine-patches as 30 separate email messages or as a single message with 30 attachements... Anyone have a strong preference on this? Anything else special I should do? Warren

Scrollbars misplaced in several apps

Several apps I've tried (including my company's app) have scrollbars in the wrong place, inset in the window by one scrollbar width. Duane Clark has seen this, too, and said "... the scrollbars being in the wrong position in the richtext window? I am pretty sure that is a richtext bug. I see it in every application that uses richtext. For example, run notepad and then resize the window. " (I tried running notepad, and couldn't reproduce it myself, so maybe I'm confused.) One app that shows the problem is Resource Hunter (free trial download at http://www.boilsoft.com/rchunter.html). Just start it, and look at the position of the scrollbars in the lower left pane. Is this a well-known problem? I'd like to try fixing it if nobody has a patch yet. I got Yardi Professional (the low-end version of the products at http://www.yardi.com) running under Wine, at least with its sample database! And it doesn't look bad. Missing messages and redraw problem in Btrieve Setup utility 6.15

This seems like a nice little test case. The UI in question is a single large dialog box put up by the Btrieve 6.15 setup utility. The Btrieve 6.15 redistributables saved in a zip file are only about 500KB, so it's a pretty easy test case to send to anyone interested. Recipe: Start BTI setup. Press TAB three times to bring to settings combo box. Start logging messages to small readonly text control giving name of current setting (11th control in spy++). Press Uparrow to pick different setting. Note visual problem in Wine. The problem in Wine is that the bottom window ends up blank. The sequence appears to be: erase bottom window, draw right values for bottom window client areas but not frames, erase bottom window. On Windows, it seems to continue after that with: draw right values for client areas again, then draw frames. Those last two bits are missing in Wine. How to remount CDROM during program execution?

I'm asking this question in the Development Forum, even though I'm not a programmer, because I haven't had any useful replies from other Wine forums. The problem occurs when performing a multidisk installation under Wine from the home directory: winex /cdrom/setup.exe and the request "Insert CD#2" is made: how to respond to this? The drawer won't open, so from the console I can try and unmount the CD using variations on <umount>, <eject> or <fuser>, but the basic difficulty is that there are processes using the cdrom device, and these have to be neutralized before the cd can be ejected. There are about 6 processes being run by Wine. Unfortunately the install program is one of these and it dies as well... I have experienced this problem mainly with games, but it probably applies to multi-cd utilities as well... Specifically I have been unable to install: Blade Runner Indiana Jones & the Infernal Machine Discworld Noir Could someone please explain what is going on? Self-hosted builds now works CD-booting/Installing Simple Windowing (User32 Code adapted from WINE) More MS_VC applicaton/driver support Started implementing support for WINE dlls Better Networking support (TCP still broken) Once WINE hits 1.x we will again take a snapshot of your tree so we have standard debugging interfaces. Right now in or tree we dont use libwine but have our own dll that implements the debug channels. We also still need to adapt alot of the controls from WINE for our user32. Looking at the remaining 32-->16 call: HGLOBAL16 WINAPI NE_DefResourceHandler( HGLOBAL16 hMemObj, HMODULE16 hModule, HRSRC16 hRsrc ) Given the above signature for this function, its abundant use of 16-bit calls (AllocResource16, GlobalLock16, GlobalRealloc16 - twice for the last two), and the fact that the NE stuff deals with Win16 executables, is this really a 32-bit function? infinite loop in msvcrt dll

Hello, when starting ACT!2000 with wine the program freezes after the main window is brought up and one wine process goes mad and eats all the cpu. Running strace on that pid dosn't show any system call and even the relay output stops. I've attached with gdb to the wine process and got a backtrace with 3569 entries. I've captured the output with screen and attached it. Seems to be a loop in an exception handler (sigsegv's over and over again). I hope that somebody can do more with the output. How does one tell what DLL contains a particular segment of 16 bit code in winedbg? For instance, there's a nice juicy exception that happens towards the end of the Resource Hunter installer, available as a free trial download at http://www.boilsoft.com/rchunter.html In wine = win2k mode, it happens early enough to break the install, but in wine's win98 mode, the install doesn't crash until quite late, and you can actually use the product. Which FM did I fail to R? I did have a look at http://www.winehq.org/docs/wine-devel/wine-debugger.shtml but it doesn't seem to even think winedbg can disassemble stuff by itself, so I wonder if that's not quite up to date. I gave a Wine demo at last Sunday's LULA installfest, and one of the attendees reports "Well, I was wanting to run seti@home, but they only have a command line version available for linux, so I used some of Dan's tricks from the Wine talk, and now I have the cool windows gui running under redhat 8, thanks Dan for the helpful info on wine." So while it may sound from my posts that Wine does nothing but crash in 16 bit code or forget to draw stuff, that's just 'cause I'm playing QA monkey.
