Segmentation fault (core dumped) with cvs update

I have upgraded my internet access recently and have decided to stay current with the cvs instead of waiting for each new snapshot. I however have run into a snag I downloaded the latest snapshot from ibiblio.org (Wine-200202.28.tar.gz) and the latest cvsdirs from ftp.winehq.com/pub/wine (wine-cvsdirs-20020228.tar.gz) After following the steps to get a CVS sandbox I now have a local copy of the wine located at /usr/local/src/wine. Accelerators - stupid question.

Good day! Any time juno raises a msgbox(?) dialog(?) modal window(?) popup(?) its general purpose accelerators are disabled. I guess that is more or less proper, but they stay disabled after the msgbox or whatever is satisfied, which seems less proper. If I switch the window manager to a different workspace(?) and back, the accelerators work again. AFAICT, hAccel is supplied to TranslateAccelerator by the caller, but it seems there must be some generic place the caller gets it, that needs to be restored to its previous state when a window is destroyed? I would be grateful for a hint where to look in the code, or what traces to look at, or any other advice you have for someone who is GUI challenged and mostly but not entirely stupid. Borland BWCC Anyone? - was DDE Error

Hi wine-devel, I was having problems setting up DDE but it now seems that my server app is failing before DDeConnect gets called. This app is 16bit written with Borland C and BWCC.DLL (Borland Windows Custom Controls) I keep getting the below sequence in all apps written with this DLL. The code that was written for the app doesn`t even get called. Has anyone had success with apps that use this DLL? Any info? How to submit patches

In documentation/wine-doc/patches.html, Albert den Haan says : " For additions: mention that you have some new files and include them as either separate attachments or by appending the diff -u /dev/null /my/new/file output of them to any cvs diff -u output you may have. Alernatively, use diff -Nu olddir/ newdir/ in case of multiple new files to add. For removals, list the files." I understood how to do when I have an addition, but not when I have a removal. Referred to the last message about this issue, I must say that it was my mistake to think wcmdmain.c was already the winebuild precompiled file. But it isn't. I must generate it. I created the .spec file as documented, but winebuild doen't find wcmdrc.res. So I try to create wcmdrc.res using wrc utility from wmcdrc.rc, that comes with CVS sources. I get errors. I'd like to maintain the application as it was created in order to get it work properly. The WineHQ.com move is complete, but not without some issues. The 1st issue is that our mailing lists (mailman) sent out a huge amount of email because the newsgroup gateway changed. It basically thought all the messages on comp.emulators.ms-windows.wine were new. Apologies go out to the users whose email inboxes we filled up. So in the meantime, the newsgroup gateway, and the NNTP server on winehq.com are offline until further notice. If you notice any other issues that I am not aware of, please let me know. What creates fake files?

I need to test a fix for a bug on a clean Wine installation. After removing my configuration directory, running tools/wineinstall I noticed that new Windows directories do not have fake files with 0 length I used to see in my old directory (shell.dll, shell32.dll, winsock.dll, wnsock32.dll, autoexec.bat, config.sys). All these fake files have exactly the same time, the same as some directories (e.g. Recent, SendTo, which do not exist in the new directory). Obviously, all these changes could not be made manually by me. Do you know what application created these files/directories or I just dreamed all this up? I've been following Wine development for the last 6 months, mostly watching for improvements for the 2 Windows applications I actually care about -- Quicken and TurboTax. Quicken has been mostly usable for that entire time period; however it's behavior has significantly improved. Far fewer hangs, crashes and other undesirable behavior. I won't enumerate the problems y'all have fixed, but the user-visible progress has been great. There's still some rough edges, but the improvements have been huge. TurboTax was basically unusable until recently -- but when I returned from a short vacation and updated my wine sources, all the show-stopping issues with TurboTax had been resolved. Amazing. The one issue in both tools that I still need to check on is both consistently ran out of GDI space, which I've hacked around with some tweaks to gdiobj.c. There was a 3rd application I've been evaluating (RentTracker) which was also unusable in mid-Feb, but which appears to work flawlessly now. I just wanted to let you know that you've made great strides recently and your work is greatly appreciated. jeff

making snoop.c not suck

Snoop seems to me to be an incredibly useful tool, when it doesn't crash. Attached is a patch that removes some of the functionality from snoop, but makes it crash less. Unfortunately, I still get a lot of crashes preceeded by the failure of the assert ordinal < nrofordinals in SNOOP_GetProcAddress. I tried to prevent this by adding an if statement there and returning zero if ordinal > nrofordinals, but that didn't stop the crashes. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? Does anyone know why the ordinal number or the number of ordinals would wrong?

Running SetiQueue on Wine...

Dear fellows, I have a small program called SetiQueue, that is an add-on to the popular Seti At Home project. There has been a lot of interest for various Linux/Unix ports of SetiQueue. Instead of doing such a port I would much rather get it running on Wine. The program itself it rather basic in it's OS usage and I am sort of surprised it doesn't just run on Wine. As not having Linux myself, I would be interested in knowing if there is a Wine expert that would want to work with me in getting it running. Either through changes in SetiQueue or Wine where ever appropriate. In the end I think this would help both products be more robust. In you have any questions or interest, just reply. - Thanks, Ken

VxD's and hardlocks

Hi, I am trying to run a point of sale app on wine. It uses a hard lock on the parallel port from www.proteq.com . This hard lock is implemented as a proteq.DLL , proteq.VxD pair. I read the documentation and browsed the mail lists and understood that VxD's have to be rewritten to work in wine. It is impossible to run a native VxD due to low level implementation conflicts between nix'es and Windows. All VxD's are builtin so to speak. I understand that www.proteq.com supports linux. Therefore, for my windows app to work under wine without modification, I would have to create a builtin proteq.DLL that accesses the linux's libs written by www.proteq.com. Is this correct? Thanks! I believe this is currently being worked upon, and I would like to be able to help - I should be able to by creating test programs in Delphi and running them under wine. This is microsofts definition of atl: "The Active Template Library (ATL) is a collection of C++ templates included in Microsoft Visual C++ version 4.0 and greater. This template library is intended specifically to facilitate the creation of Component Object Model (COM) objects." http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/comsrv2k/h… As shown by the definition it's a part of visual c++. I don't think anyone has/is porting it to wine but i have only been following the list for a couple of months and aren't really interested in atl so i might have missed it

DDE Problems and Thread Execution Order in win16 - win3.1

Hi, I am trying to run a 16bit windows app on wine. The app is broken down into about 5 diferent EXE files. The init sequence is something like: --- PDV.EXE -> starts up and calls DISP.EXE -> DISP and PDV communicate through DDE BD2.EXE -> runs ctree, a dbf database ... (other apps get spawned by PDV.EXE) If above sequence is successfull - PDV's User Interface get's completely built PDV is ready for user interaction. --- PDV has 2 windows and DISP has one. All the other apps run minimized. I can't get the APP to finish this init sequence. It either hangs with a lot of err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x4010030c "syslevel.c: Win16Mutex" wait timed out, retrying (60 sec) fs=0897 errors and/or crashes with an exception. The app runs fine untill it get's to the point where it spawns a second EXE. It seems to me that the execution of these processess is not happening in the same order in win98 and in wine. Could this be the case? I read all I could find in the mailing lists and the manual on this issue, specially wine-devel manual. A good example to demonstrate this is the sequence where PDV.EXE calls DISP.EXE and then tries to set up DDE. The code in the APP is: 1. Run PDV.EXE 2. PDV.EXE Calls DISP.EXE - DISP initializes 3. Set up DDE The code being run by wine is 1. Run PDV.EXE 2. PDV.EXE Calls DISP.EXE - Disp starts initializing and control is returned to PDV.EXE 3. PDV.EXE thinks DISP.EXE is initialized and tries to set up DDE. The call fails 4. DISP.EXE finishes initializing , does not receive a DDEConnect and just sit's there with no work to do. The sequence where PDV.EXE calls BD.EXE is similar. It seems that BD.EXE is not getting enough processor time to finish it's init sequence, and so my app hangs during the init sequence. I don't know how to test this. I have access to the source of these apps. If I compile them with debugging info, will I be able to see them in winedbg? Is there a call in win16 to yield the app's execution? Maybe if I called this often in my PDV.EXE code, things would work out? I have been at it for about two days and would certainly appreciate an insight. Please help me out ! I'm new to Wine development and was checking out bug #11 (from "tasklet" meta-bug #406) I added some comments for it. It seems beyond the scope of a beginner type bug. See bug for details. Also, the latest build was having problems getting configure to recognize freetype which was already reported as #435. It has some more details now. Something else I came across: the most recent tarfile for CVS dirs, "wine-cvsdirs-20011226.tar.gz", is missing the directory for "wine/dlls/crypt32/CVS" Should this be reported as a bug? I was going to look at bug #323 (close stdout/stderr for wineclipsrv, ie. run as daemon) Any suggestions or comments for that? Wouldn't the system call daemon() take care of it pretty easily? Update: Agenda for wineconf 2002

We have two full days planned (March 15th-16th). The sessions will go from 9-5 on both Friday and Saturday. I think all of the international attendees are coming in on Thurs, so they'll be rested up to start at 9am Friday morning. Both days, breakfast pastries will be provided at the conference premises along with lunch. Dinners will be within walking distance on Friday and Saturday shuttles will be provided to our dinner spot. We're also planning on providing transportation from the airport to hotels on Thurs for our out of town guests. So a rental cars may not be necessary unless you're planning on extra activities on Sunday that aren't part of the conference. As for the conference sessions, the attendees are the speakers, so we're asking those in attendance to prepare a 30-45 minute presentation meant to educate and inform as well as spur on discussion. If you don't see your name on the list below, please send me a topic you would like to give a presenation on. We have a great conference venue lined up which will have plenty of meeting rooms and state of the art presentation capabilities along with internet access. To give a presentation, you can either bring a laptop to plug into the video projection system or you can email to me your presentation and I will insure that it is on a computer plugged into the projection system for your presentation. There are 3 areas that we'll be focusing on: Business issues - This will be a combination of presentation from companies talking about their business experience with WINE as well as talks on the non-technical issues facing WINE. Mouse and keyboard events in DGA2 mode

This looks like a timer to me, that is, if a certain amount of execution does not happen then this error is printed. The amount of execution is measured by two flags in wine builtin code. True Type fonts worked in the past?

Hi again: I decided to work on starcraft+wine compatibility (started a SF project at starcraft-wine.sourceforge.net) and was wondering about the most popular issue related to the true type fonts on the battle net screens. I'm not sure, but I remember to have seen the fonts working with a very old wine version (at the times of RH 6.1). How was that possible when TT rendering wasn't yet implemented AFAIK ? fonts aliasing? Any advice for fixing this issue?

A headers text drawing question

A small question. I was curious if there was a particular reason that HEADER_DrawItem was using the unicode DrawText functions? For my recent listview testing, I whipped up a quick app with a couple of listviews in it. And not knowing how to make the headers use unicode (I am very new to writing Windows apps), under wine all the headers had the little squares instead of the correct text. Going to header.c line 299 and changing the DrawTextW to DrawTextA draws the headers correctly in my test app. Also there is a BOOL flag in the HEADER_INFO struct for unicode. So I guess I am wondering if there is some reason not to test that flag and draw the header accordingly? I am still trying to figure out how to make my app use unicode (I am using Borland C++), or to find an app that uses unicode headers. Duane

Corrected winproc fix

OK, I the simple fix I posted earlier for the winproc memory leak problem caused two identical winprocs to be stored and broke some of the common controls (causing a message loop). This fix should keep the winproc ordering correct and only allow one winproc of the same address if it is set as a both a class and user proc. Dave Hawkes

DDE problems on 16bit Apps

Hello, I tried running the point of sale apps this morning that communicate with DDE. Both of them (DISP.EXE and PDV.EXE) are 16bit apps. There is also a 32bit DISP but I am using the 16bit version. I have access to the source of these programs. The program init sequence is PDV.EXE calls DISP.EXE with a shell comand and then sets up DDE. PDV does all the processing, talks to external hardwares and then sends output for DISP to display. I am using the conf file that came with wine-20020122 so USER, USER32 and DDEML are the builtin libraries. After running bash> wine /c/Regis/PDV I get the following error: err:ddeml:DdeConnect Done with INITIATE, but no Server window available fixme:ddeml:DdeGetLastError (2): error reporting is weakly implemented I tracked down the message to wine-20020122/dlls/user/dde/client.c . I am going to debug client.c and server.c to see if I can understand what the code is doing and where things are not working. Hi Mehmet, I created the problematic change in question. Without the change, when StgOpenStorage is called with an existing zero length file as the filename, it fails because it suceeded in opening the file but expects it to have valid content... Unfortunately, the change was merged incorrectly from the big CW patch. (the Fad structure is not initiaized) Could you try this patch instead please? Question about ToolbarWindowProc

Greetings: I am attempting to implement toolbar window message 0x463 -- which, as far as I can tell, is undocumented. If anyone has any information about it, I would love to hear it. I currently have a question about a difference in the implementation of comctl32.dll under Wine vs Windows. In both Wine and Windows, the function ToolbarWindowProc starts by calling GetWindowLongA (hwnd, 0) and treats the returned value as a pointer to a structure. Under wine the structure is the TOOLBAR_INFO structure defined in dlls/comctl32/toolbar.c. Under Windows, I have no idea what the structure looks like. Using the debugger, I can see that the first two elements of the structure are the hwnd numbers of the window and its parent -- but after that it is not very obvious. SystemParamtersInfoA Unknown Action: 4104

I have just tried to fire up MindManager under Wine. It installed cleanly (as far as I can tell) and successfully created an icon on my KDE desktop.. When I try to run it however, it first complains about a fixme in CreateAcceleratorTableA, which I think I understand, and then hits another fixme in SystemParamertersInfoA from which it asked for action 4104. Looking at SystemParametersInfoA this seems odd as the action value is much too large. Does anyone have any idea what this might mean? Neither 04 nor 41 make much sense either. The app then hangs, and neither the mouse nor the keyboard seem to be able to get from the first little window into the main application. Perhaps the 04 did make sense, as it talks about the mouse. I am running the version from Debian testing. David
