after investigating the DirectX NT dlls as part of an investigation to see if they would work on ReactOS, I discovered something. The core DX dlls (like ddraw.dll, dsound.dll, dinput.dll and others) dont seem to make kernel-mode or driver/hardware calls directly. Most of it appears to be done via other places (such as winmm.dll, some special thunks in gdl32.dll and others) If my theory is correct (remember though, its just a theory), it may be possible to not only use the directx userland dlls (like ddraw.dll & friends) with ReactOS but it may be possible (if one were to implement the lower-level stubs) in a meaningfull way) to use said dlls with WINE. If it is possible to use native versions of some of the high-level bits, that could really help get more games going... One of the main things that would be needed is a proper implementation of the GdiEntryxxx functions and the DdEntryxxx functions in gdi32.dll, they are the "thunks" that allow DirectDraw and Direct3D to talk to kernel mode. DirectSound & DirectMusic appear to go through winmm.dll to talk to the sound hardware.

Dimi, thanks for the information, especially to use gcc instead of winegcc to build the final library. The small sample dll now links without any problems. If you don't have a microsoft windows license, you can't run the setup, and you can't install dcom from the microsoft web site. You can install the software on a windows pc, and copy the installation directory to your fake windows installation on your linux pc (Using a CD-R/LAN/internet/whatever).

Errors installing atmel ids under wine ...

I am trying to install a fpga synthesis software called ids from atmel ( www.atmel.com ) , and I am getting the following errors, does anybody know a way around this ? Linux Question?

Does anyone know where I can get the opcodes for an x86 processor. I am going to include the code in Wine to port it to mac. I am an experienced linux programmer but mainly have only worked with server writing. I am also very capable in writing php, perl, tcl, html, etc. This is the first real "advanced" project I am starting to write. Thank you so much for your archives. I have to admit I'm a bit disappointed with this patch: - Patch name should really be more descriptive. - Changelog is not up to date with patch. - This patch cannot be compiled with a C compiler. This makes it look like this patch has not been tested at all... - There are logic errors in the patch. - You should really either clear CFLAG at start of each subfunction or clear it on success. Using both approaches makes the work of future int21 workers more difficult. There may be cases where you need to use the other approach but those cases should be rare. Here is a quick review of the patch. There could be more bugs still left in the patch: ioctl : You really should consider all IOCTL subfunctions before trying to modify CFLAG behaviour. Putting one top level RESET_CFLAG with FIXME comment would be fine but fixing one branch and leaving other branches alone is not. 0x2d : not ok. First of all, illegal time is not an error. Some programs seem to use it as installation check, see subfunction 0x2b. Second thing is that you only reset CFLAG here and do not set it. Third thing is that I don't think this subfunction touches CFLAG at all. 0x38 : not ok. It would be pointless to return an error here because it only makes fewer programs work. Just add RESET_CFLAG and leave the logic as it is. Besides you have broken bSetDOSExtendedError handling here. 0x39-0x43 : ok 0x45 : not ok. Missing brackets. 0x46-47 : ok 0x48 : ok (see 0x5c) 0x4a : This is not valid C. RESET_CFLAG cannot happen before variable declarations. Move RESET_CFLAG to start of subfunction. 0x4b : ok 0x56 : ok 0x57 : ok 0x5b : ok 0x5c : not ok (cosmetic bug). If you decide to use if-then-bSetDOSExtendedError-else-RESET_CFLAG you really should try to use it everywhere. Or you could use RESET_CFLAG as first operation in each subfunction. Porting to OpenBSD 3.4-beta

First, if this is the wrong list for this, I appologize and please point me at the correct list. I have been trying to port Wine, WineX, or ReWind to OpenBSD 3.4-beta for the past week. I've made the most progress with ReWind, so that is what this post will focus on. Where I'm stumbling right now, I believe, is in the dll loader: odin@sleipnir:p6[~/.wine/c]$ wine windows/Sol.exe err:module:BUILTIN32_LoadLibraryExA loaded .so but dll ntdll.dll still not found - library environment problem or version conflict, check your setup. err:module:PE_fixup_imports Module (file) ntdll.dll (which is needed by wine) not found Now, it _is_ actually loading libntdll.so, I can see this with ktrace: 181 wine NAMI "/usr/local/lib/libntdll.so" 181 wine RET open 3 181 wine CALL read(0x3,0xcfbefdbc,0x1000) 181 wine GIO fd 3 read 4088 bytes "\^?ELF\^A\^A\^A\0\0\0\0\0\0 ...... I see that message is in relay32/builtin32.c, printed if MODULE_FindModule returns nothing. In MODULE_FindModule in this loop: for ( wm = MODULE_modref_list; wm; wm = wm->next ) { ..... } I added a printf("MOD: %s\n", wm->modname); which prints out "MOD: wine" four times before the error message above. I'm curious how MODULE_modref_list is seeded. That's where I think I'll find a clue to my problem. Could anyone give me some pointers? Mainsoft MainWin

Hello, I wanted to ask this since a while: Does anyone know this product "Mainsoft Visual MainWin" at http://www.mainsoft.com ? The web site sounds, as would they be able do cross plattform development by linking applications to WIN32, MFC and ATL libraries on unix. Visual MainWin 5 Features Do they use wine code, do they use MS OS source code licencies, or how did they manage this? Martin
