Lotus Notes 6.51 on Wine 20050930 - Got it working

Here are a couple of notes on making Lotus Notes 6.51 work on Wine 20050930 The previous version of Wine that worked properly was 20050725. I upgraded to Wine 20050930 and restarted Notes. Notes crashed and complained about usp10 missing some entry points I ran wineprefixcreate (Note that you cannot go back to Wine 20050725 after you do this, so back up you .wine tree before running this) Ran winecfg and set usp10 to Windows Only Restarted Notes Notes seemed to work until I tried to save an attachment, then it crashed Triaged the crash to a change on 8/15/2005 at 9:51CDT. The patch at this time, changes the default version from WIN98 to NT2K Ran winecfg and set the default version to Win98 Restated Notes and the application works and saving attachments works Triaging the version change was a lot of work to find out that I just needed to change the default version. Took me nearly a day to find it. If I switch back the version to default, the crash happens everytime. I believe a file selection dialog is being loaded and there is a problem with that dialog in NT2K mode and it causes a crash. The other thing that is odd is that the layout of the screen between WIN98 mode and NT2k mode is slightly different in 20050930, mainly on the widget that lists the messages. Help translating Japanese error message in installer

There is a Japanese RPG I am trying to install, which I downloaded from: http://www.i-o.jp/game/mizukake/mizukake_trial.zip This installer runs fine under Windows 98, but fails in Wine. I believe this to be some kind of trivial error, but I cannot read Japanese, so I am unable to diagnose what is going wrong with this installer. A screenshot of the error message is attached. Could somebody who can read Japanese please translate this screenshot for me, so that I can know what is the issue the installer is complaining about? Alex Villacís Lasso

What is --extension in win32.api?

In a number of places in win32.api I see '--extension' is used. For instance for 'advapi32.dll' we have: %long --extension LSA_HANDLE '--extension' is also used for pointer types in other places. However, when I check winapi.pm I see that '--extension' is not used anywhere ($extension is set but never used). So what is it for? Log message: [[[ Fix up winedev-debugger doc to match 0.9. Remove 404s, remove config file references, mention disassemblers that actually installs, etc. ]]] Details: * Remove defunct IDA hyperlinks. * Add new IDA hyperlinks and verbosity. * Add GoVest hyperlink. * Add brief mention of SoftIce (and that it doesn't run under Wine). * Add authors for disassemblers, which should help with locating them should they change ownership. * Add reference to Google's directory of Win32 disassemblers. * Remove references to Wine config file. * Add references to debugging related Wine registry keys. * Consistency: Fold a few lines that were more than 80 characters. * Consistency: Use [. ] for line endings. Both [. ] and [. ] were used before. The document is a difficult read, so spacing of sentences makes good sense. * Fix grammar, missing spaces between words, etc. Please apply, someone :-).

App db not accepting screen shots....

This function was already going to cause you trouble, as getenv("HOME") probably won't produce the correct results anyway. headless question, and IPC question

I'm using wine to access a particular proprietary DLL (I don't have the source for it) on Linux. The way I'm doing this is to write an EXE that wraps the DLL, and makes all of the functions available via socket request and response messages. My linux program has access to the functions of the DLL by sending socket messages to the EXE running under wine. 2 questions: 1. My DLL/EXE uses no calls to pop up graphical windows, so theoretically no display is needed. Of course wine needs a display because it does not know that an EXE won't make such calls. Is there a way to run wine with a null or dummy display - so that it is effectively running headless? 2. The sockets trick was the simplest way I could figure out how to do IPC between a linux process and a wine process. However, is there are any better or faster way to do this? As far as I know I can't use winelib because I don't have the source to the DLL. Thanks, Ken Larson

Folks, As most of you probably know (at least those of you who managed to get out of bed in time for my keynote ;-) we are supposed to release 0.9 real soon now. We do have one remaining issue: the documentation needs some major work. Not every bit of it is critical for the release, but we need to fix at least the User's Guide to reflect the recent configuration changes.
