I didn't have the patience to wait for it to get past the initial G-man sequence (which by the way, is still not shown, like in Cedega - it's a white screen). I tried turning down the resolution to 640x480, but that actually seemed to make it worse (different res. from desktop). DirectX is detected at 6.0 by the game (9.0 hardware), and I think it hardcodes the memory to 64MB of video ram (see messages). Problems with file creation, what means L"\\??\\C:\\" vs. L"C:\\"

Hello, I try to create a file with Origin 6.0 and saving (only) in Origin's internal format fails. Writing other file types (in Origin) to that directory works flawlessly. Good testcase for comctl32.dll

Hi, I think I've found a good testcase for comctl32.dll. The application is Ilium eWallet 4.0.0 (www.iliumsoft.com) with Wine 20050628 (running on Gentoo). There is also a 30-day trial of eWallet, which exhibits the problem as well. Icons don't look good, and it is worked around by using a native comctl32.dll (md5sum 0b5d337119929505ee72d4e4a41ed1fd). Can something be done to fix the icons without using a native comctl32 ? PNG screenshots of eWallet attached. Thanks, Joël

Civilization 2

I've been using wine for a couple of years now, but I still couldn't play my favorite game, civ2, so I decided to give it a try and see if I could fix anything. I'm new to wine development and its hard to get my bearings, so I'm hoping to get some hints from any knowledgeable persons, as to how I might tackle this problem. The problem I (and some other people as well, from what I gathered from the archives) am having with civ2 is that the game is incredibly slow. More precisely, it seems to have serious perfomance issues while rendering, which makes the game unplayable, although the graphics look good overall. So I started inverstigating, running oprofile with default settings turned up that wine spends a lot of time in * X11DRV_DIB_SetImageBits_8 * MapColor * GetImageBits_8 Besides actually writing pixels on the screen, these functions also convert between X's internal representation which is 24 bit in my case, since I am running X in 24 bits, and 8 bit as required for the DIB. So, I tried setting X's display depth to 8 bit, which actually made the game playable. This leads me to conclude that the conversion between 8 and 24 bits, ties up many resources. Ditching the config file

Hi all, Now that we've ditched the config file, I'm finding myself migrating all of my DllOverride settings to Winecfg. I have a lot of them, so this is getting very tedious. So, I was wondering, why don't we just make it so that if a config file is found it will read the existing overrides into the new location, and then delete the config file? Where is the code for reading the config file located? I'd like to get started on it--I think it could make upgrades a lot easier. Regards, James Liggett

Redraw problem with comboboxes on tab controls

Hi, I do have a couple of windows programs that have comboboxes in tab controls, which have redraw problems. There's a small test-program appended to this mail, which exhibits this problem. It's probably a very simple problem, but I have no experience with wine's GUI code. So if someone who is familiar with the combobox code could have a look at it, that would be nice. Recent wine and valgrind, possible?

Hi All, I'm trying to get valgrind and wine working, that is to debug the exe wine itself is running. So far I've failed, so if anyone has any information or patches to get this working, I'd appreciate it. Firstly I applied this patch to Wine-20050628: http://www.winehq.org/hypermail/wine-patches/2004/09/0067.html (this applied cleanly, you have to edit one header file to change the prototype for wine_init(), but this is obvious from the gcc error). Question about Wine tests

I've been running the Wine test from http://test.winehq.com/data/ for a while now. I usually run them in batches. It suddenly struck me that maybe I should be restarting Windows between each test. Installer: How is the progress coming along?

How are things coming along with the application installer? I remember at one point reading that "person A" was going to lock "person B" in some room until work on it was completed. >:) Right now, many us wine users can't install a lot of apps on newer versions of Wine. So, either we're stuck on an earlier version of Wine, or we have to do wacky things like install an app on an old version and then move the install files to a newer version. (The latter only works in some instances like Flash MX.) Certain workarounds we used in the past for installing apps don't work with the current state of the installer; i.e. utilizing stdole32.tlb I want to get an idea of how long I/ we need to hold my breath for. :) Thanks! Palm Hotsync and usbserial: New Findings

Hello all, I have been working on getting Hotsync to sync to a USB cradle using usbserial. I did some research, and as it turns out, the functions that wine uses to poll normal serial ports (like ioctl and tcgetattr) don't like usbserial devices very much. In fact, when I query my USB cradle using setserial, it gives me the same "Invalid Arguement" error that GetCommState does. Additionally, pilot-link doesn't even use these functions to communicate with a usbserial connected palm. The question now is, can we get tcgetattr to play nice with usbserial? I only see patches adding to its functionality, and nobody is removing config options. Having a configurationless Wine is a lofty goal, but not one that's achieveable in the short term. It would be nice to spend a little bit of time to fix up the usability issues that Felix has pointed out. Opening a new window for app specific overrides might be hard, but it would make alot more sense. Mike The big problem with Wine is that every time something gets improved something quits running. This is normal for any development and can't be helped. If there were 10 times the effort put into Wine we might be able to get rid of winecfg but not as things are. There simply isn't the manpower.
