wine performance question on different machines

Hi All , I am executing a windows program, that calls function in the vendor supplied dll from one of its functions. I executed this program in Linux using wine, in two PC's. PC 1 ( with Enterprize Linux 4.0 ): Processor : Intel Pentium 4 , 2.80 GHz Cache Size : 512 KB RAM : 1 GB Result : When I execute this program in the above machine using wine , I am getting the same performance as in windows for the execution of the function that is in the vendor supplied dll. PC 2 ( with Enterprize Linux 4.0 ): Processor : Intel Xeon , with CPU - 2.80 GHz Cache Size : 1024 KB RAM : 2 GB Result : When I execute this program in the above machine using wine , the execution time of the function that is in the vendor supplied dll is nearly 10 times morethan as in case of first machine. Can any one has same type of observation earlier ? Is there any issue like this w.r.t wine ? Thank you ajay .

Regression testing sadness

Hi, i tried to do a regression test for a bug (bug 4370) This is what i found: cvs update -PAd -D "2006-01-06 15:52:12 CDT" --> no bug cvs update -PAd -D "2006-01-06 15:52:13 CDT" --> bug. Now in the cvs list i see absolutely no patch committed at that time. With some effort i found out that the patch should be: http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-cvs/2006-January/020141.html There are two time's given on this page: Fri Jan 6 14:49:30 CST 2006 on top and in the middle: Date: Fri Jan 6 21:15:48 2006 +0100 Now either i'm doing something completely wrong, or something is really wrong with the regression testing (documentation). at least it's very confusing! Anyone can help? If so, what's the URL? Hi... trying to run a astrology software brings the following error message at a point where the graphics data should be displayed: X Error of failed request: BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation) Major opcode of failed request: 53 (X_CreatePixmap) Serial number of failed request: 56041 Current serial number in output stream: 56043 and the program stops immediately. Looks like X is not able or willing to bring enough memory to the app. Is there anything I can do? Thanks for helping Markus m.goemmel(a)compulab.de

Golden apps?

I'm trying to get a list of 'gold' apps from the appdb, but it doesn't have a way to search like that, so I filed http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4365 In the meantime, what apps work *really well* with Wine at the moment? Firefox 1.5 seems to be in good shape. I'm looking for apps that will demo well for my talk at SCALE in two weeks. [Corrected] Fix (w)strto(l)d family and test for atof

(I forgot some fix in wcstod) Changelog: /home/wine/wine/dlls/msvcrt/wcs.c, string.c, test/string.c: Fix wcstod, implement strtod and atof on top of an adapted copy of wcsto(l)d. Add tests for atof and strtod. This supercedes the patch adding atof todo_wines. Maybe strtod should be implemented by translating the string to a wide string and calling wcstod. Hi, I just recently downloaded the CVS of WINE and tried to build it on an Apple Intel machine. I ran into some problems during the build and fixed them. I then got to the server and the build quit on context_i386.c. There is nothing in that file that handles darwin/ Mac OS X. It looks like the ptrace functionality (GETREGS, etc) that is used on Linux and FreeBSD is not present in the xnu kernel... I would like to get WINE working on x86 OS X. Can anyone tell me who is working on this? I would like to help with this effort. Chris

Doomsday (jDoom) directinput error

I have tried to use jDoom/Doomsday in Wine, because I rather not have to reboot to play it. The error is in DirectInput. I have tried to disable stuff such as joystick, but not mouse (kinda hard to play without mouse). Anyways, the startup console displays this where it crashes (irrelevant text stripped): Sys_Init: Setting up machine state. Sys_Init: Initializing keyboard, mouse and joystick. I_Init: DirectInput 8 init failed (0x80040154). I_Init: failed to create DirectInput 3 object (0x800704df). also, a dialog box appears, with that text, a blank newline, and then "Sys_init: Failed to initalize DirecInput". Threading performance

Hi all, I was just playing around with the Video Stress Test in CounterStrike: Source, and noted a lot of odd stuttering. The demo would run for about 15 seconds at 13fps, then completely freeze up for about 15 seconds. Then, it would start running again... only to freeze/unfreeze every 15 seconds or so. Just for fun, I reniced all the wine processes down to +15. The result: the demo runs completely smooth (well, at 13fps... but that's on account of my low system specs) from start to finish. I did some searching and noticed a similar report last year: http://www.winehq.com/hypermail/wine-devel/2004/08/0306.html I wasn't having this problem last year, but I've updated so many things in the last month (like moving from KDE3.4 to KDE3.5, and updating WINE from CVS), so I'm afraid I can't pinpoint the exact cause right now. Does anyone know of another, more permanent, workaround rather than re-nicing after starting WINE? only one which keeps users on windoze. winedbg symbols completely screwed

Continuing my debugging efforts, I decided to look some more at the strange symbols I got in the backtrace. Indeed, it seems like winedbg completely screws up the MFC42 symbols. For example, by disassembling from the load address of MFC42 I was able to identify the CString::FreeData() function at 0x5f402125, but winedbg tells me it's 0x5f445900. Is this a known problem? Since my fc3 machine is in the shop, I tried building wine from cvs just now on Red Hat 9 (and I've forgotten the magic incantation to get that to work properly with crypto, so not every feature of wine was enabled). For anyone trying to apply the patch and wondering why make complains, it's because configure needs to be updated. (Or apply the attached patch, which manually adds the new directory in the two places it needs to be added.) In the snippet + parent = new_richedit(NULL); + hwndRichEdit = new_richedit(parent); do you really want to embed a richedit box inside another richedit box? Wouldn't a plain window do for the outer window?
