no test structure in place for wine programs

I'm been looking at bug 9628 (and duplicate 12222) whenever I get the time to work on wine these days. I've gone through various tests, enough to determine that msiexec on Windows must use some custom command line parsing in order for it to work for the cases listed in those bugs given that the behaviour is replicated by the standard command line API's in windows. So I've got to the stage where I believe the correct fix is to put in some custom handling to make wine's msiexec match the behaviour of windows version. So far so good. At this point I expect that there should be some test cases added since this functionality wouldn't appear frequently enough in most install cases for any future breaks to be picked up if future changes are made. So I expect to try and add some test cases, when I notice there is no test structure to test any of the exe's built by wine. Bit of a problem there... I'm assuming that the original assumption was that the programs just act as entry points to the dll functionality, so there shouldn't be any need to add unit tests for the programs. They will either work correctly once the dll's function, or break really, really noticably. Next step is the question? Should I try to take the dll test structure (mainly just the dlls/Maketest.rules.in file) and port this into the programs area? or is that overboard for that area? -- Darragh "Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool."

My name is Gal Topper and my goal this summer will be to implement PrintDlgEx* in Wine, so that we'll have support for the newer and more flexible print dialog that was introduced in Windows NT. I am a third year computer science student in York University in Toronto, Canada, and lucky for me, my exams are over! MSIME support causing slow setup until explorer.exe paused?

I tried installing StarUML (after doing winetricks vcrun6 msxml3, as required), and the setup crept along very slowly... so I got curious and ran top. Most of the cpu time was being used by Explorer and wineserver, and interestingly, if I suspended Explorer by doing strace -p <pid of explorer> and then pressing ^S, the install ran awful darn fast. Text bug in winecfg!

Hello everybody! When i use winecfg in english, text in winecfg looks good but in french and some other languages it isn't the case, i made a screenshot to show the (little, little, very little) bug, but i find it annoying! Hello all, some times ago I make design for AppDB (http://buzz.ulx.ru/pf/appdb.png). Folks was delighted with this one, but managers rejected my idea due to needs redesign everything then. But now it may be more actual then ever owing to Wine 1.0 release? I think it may gain attention from professionals who wants to use wine in production environment and improve Wine. I can make design for main pages, xml/xslt template and probably base php5 clasess if you decide to change site engine. -- Evgeny

What to do about filenames legal in Linux but illegal in Windows?

Linux users create files with names that are legal in Linux but not in Windows, simply because they can. Eventually they'll try to read those files in a Windows app, either by carrying them on a flash drive over to a real windows system, by dual booting, or by running the app in Wine. Now, normally, Wine should do exactly what Windows does. (I believe that in both Windows and Wine, directory listings will show these illegal chars, but attempts to open the files will fail.) But let's say we're in that happy time in the near future when lots of companies are willing to ship their apps with Wine as a halfway house to native support, and lots of their users start running into this issue. Can/should such apps tell Windows or Wine "Oh, go ahead and let me open those funny files?" On Wine, of course, we could open up a hole if we had to, but it'd be nice to know if there were a method that also worked on Windows. I looked around a bit today for a way to open such files in Windows, and failed miserably (though I did find a nice example of how to use NtCreateFile without the DDK). Anyone know of a way on real Windows to do this?
