Hello, I would really appreciate any feedback as to how these patches can be improved so that they will be accepted into Wine. regedit: Add support for importing Unicode files http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-patches/2008-June/056856.html I know this patch is a little big, but I'm not sure how it could be split up without possible data loss on import. Is that acceptable? Alternate shell?

For a maximal dogfood experience, I was looking around for a way to use a replacement Windows shell with Wine as my desktop environment instead of gnome or kde. So far, all the ones I've found are either broken, hard to use, or just plain weird. I've been working through the list at http://www.dmoz.org/Computers/Software/Operating_Systems/Microsoft_Windows/… http://www.astonshell.com/aston/ - couldn't figure out how to run it? http://www.emergedesktop.org/ - kind of works, but very minimal, no start menu http://www.labyrinth.net.au/~mosses/rob/liteshell.html - works, but very minimal, no start menu http://purels.org - no help, just exits, saying "ha ha, you didn't configure me". Obviously not meant for me :-) http://www.lighttek.com/talisman.htm - pretty, but no Programs menu?! (Maybe that's there but broken, wine bug?) http://www.sky.franken.de/explorer/download.html - ROS explorer - prebuilt binary there is 3 years out of date, doesn't work too well Anyone have a favorite I should try? - Dan

You should mention somewhere (FIXME or TODO or something) what the code currently rely on socket being not used by WSAIoctl. IIRC Windows won't let you call WSAIoctl(0, ...) Correct way would be to retrieve both AcceptEx and GetAcceptExSockaddrs routine addresses in AcceptEx wrapper and store lpOutputBuffer->fn mapping somewhere. Pipeline separation preview

Hi, I'm sending a preview of my vertex-fragment-misc pipeline separation patches as discussed a few weeks ago. The patch comments have more descriptions. The relevant patches start at patch 5, the other patches are other junk in my tree. Any comments? Stefan

Yet another person's list of must-have windows apps

http://www.benjarvis.org/tech/how-to-minimize-your-windows-usage/ lists his must-have windows apps as ---snip--- - Ableton Live 7 (Nothing can replace this yet and the latency is too long under WINE) - VST Instruments (DLL files that are used by Ableton Live) - iTunes (I may move back to Rockbox now that Banshee works better) - World of Warcraft (My video card is too weak to run it in Linux) - Various Emulators (Once I get my Xbox 360 controller to work under Ubuntu, I will be migrating these) - Magic the Gathering (It has issues under WINE, but I barely even play) ---snip--- I guess that's one more vote for schannel.

I get the following error when applying your patch via git-am, shelnutt@Ubuntu32-L:~/wine$ git-am 0001-a-hack-to-make-Folding-Home-think-I-am-using-an-NVID.patch cat: .dotest/next: No such file or directory previous dotest directory .dotest still exists but mbox giv I was able to apply it manually though using the patch command. The only difference between your patch and mine was I also changed "display", and I changed it to "nv4_display.dll". I guess that doesn't work. It is compiling now, so thanks for the patch. Also I wasn't aware of the change of name for Wine. I'll stop the all caps now ;).
