Writing test programs for dlls/krnl386.exe16

Hi I would like to write some tests for the krnl386.exe16 part of wine, or more precisely the DOS parts of that. But there is no starting point at the moment. As far as I can understand other tests are run as 32/64 bit programs, which makes sense since they test the 32/64 parts of wine. But in order to test the DOS part I need to run as 16 bit (32 bit might be ok) and use the old style int 21h functions and so on. A "simple" solution to this would be to create a 32 bit program which executes the 16 bit DOS program through a fitting 32 bit windows call. The 16 bit program writes a file which the 32 bit program reads in order to do the reporting. So what I have been trying to find out, is how to create programs that do exactly that. For the windows part I hope this should be able to startup a 16 bit program: memset(&si, 0, sizeof(si)); si.cb = sizeof(si); if (CreateProcessA(NULL, name, NULL, NULL, FALSE, 0, NULL, NULL, &si, &pi)) { CloseHandle(pi.hThread); CloseHandle(pi.hProcess); if(read_test_file()) return TRUE; } For the DOS part the most logical thing would be to use assembler langage, as this will allow me to write the most specific tests and know what is being tested. It might also be possible to find various "old" education samples or other tests that might form a base for testing. I have no problem writing the programs in assembler. The assembler can be done 2 ways as I see it, as true assembler (e.g. nasm or something like that) or written as inline assembler in a C program. I am not sure which method is best for wine. The other problems is how to link the programs into an executable DOS program. So far my searching on the internet hasn't provided me with anything that I could use. So I looking for input on this work and how to move forward. Can anyone give me some pointers on how to do this (within the wine enviroment)? Can mingw used for the cross compiling also be used for this, given the correct parameters? I believe that the tests should be able to be skipped if a proper enviroment isn't present, in case the building of the test requires something extra, .e.g, an assembler otherwise not needed for wine. Graphics Driver Interface Standardization

Hi, I'm getting ready to implement the Quartz Driver. For those of you who don't know, this is a special graphics driver that only works on Mac OS X, and uses its native Core Graphics (aka, Quartz) system to draw. But before I can do this, there are two things that need to be done: 1. Wine currently assumes that the current graphics driver is the X11 driver. It directly GetModuleHandle()'s winex11.drv in order to call driver functions. This needs to be fixed. 2. The driver interface needs to be standardized. I can fix the first problem by adding a Wine-specific export to GDI32, then updating all the winex11 clients to call this function, but the second problem will make writing a non-X11 driver problematic. The GDI and USER interfaces are already somewhat standardized, but the reason many clients call winex11.drv directly is to call the "Thread-Safe X11" locking routines. Also, Explorer calls winex11 to create the desktop and notification area ("systray") windows. Therefore, I propose this interface. It's largely based off of winex11, but with some small modifications. It's attached to this mail. What do you think of this? And don't tell me that we need a DIB engine before I get started on winequartz. I intend to use Mac OS X native APIs (like Core Image) to accelerate DIBs, in much the same way winex11 uses Xrender. OPOS in wine

Hello all mighty wine people..... this might not be the best place to do this and for that I apologize for this inconvenience... anyway I am about to try to configure OPOS in ubuntu 9.10 karmic using wine since most of the printer drivers etc... are executed in the user space and the OPOS itself just contains a series of interfaces registered to the good old COM server... I have had some success so far with a laptop.. but now I am about to get my hands into a real reception computer a one I am in liberty to install a Linux on it.. so what I would like to ask is any pointers and stuff or if anybody has already done this with success if have I have not found any leads on it... anyway thanks in advance Joni Salmela PS if this really is the wrong place to post stuff like this would please correct me then thanks again

I don't think Windows Notepad uses GetCPInfoEx either, and on my Windows XP box, Wine Notepad's menu ended up looking something like: 1252 ANSI Latin 1 Unicode (UTF-16) Unicode (UTF-16 big-endian) 65001 Unicode (UTF-8) Yes, GetCPInfoEx should be fixed. But Wine Notepad will still be slightly broken.
