Missing WGL function declarations in wingdi.h

As the subject says, all of the WGL functions that should be declared in wingdi.h are currently only found in dlls/opengl32/wgl.h. I ran across this recently while working on getting wined3d to use wgl instead of glx directly. Currently I work around it by including wgl.h and adding makefile include options to point to dlls/opengl32. It would be much cleaner and correct if I could forgo this and just include wingdi.h. Anyone have problems with me submitting a patch which would move the relevant (i.e. not all) parts of dlls/opengl32/wgl.h into include/wingdi.h? >From MSDN (for wglCreateContext): === Requirements Windows NT/2000: Requires Windows NT 3.5 or later. opengl support in wine

I've had a discussion with someone through this list about wine and libGL.so. It was about wine using dlopen("libGL.so") instead of linking directly with libGL.so. I still don't understand why the wine developers have made this decision. I'm again at the point where I need to hook OpenGL (glX) functions ahd I have to patch wine again to make it work. There is absolutely no reason not to link with libGL.so directly: Even if you make OpenGL a hard dependency, nothing will break. Just announce it well so that everybody understands the change and make --disable-opengl the default option. Now everyone can get wine and it will work out-of-the-box and those who want opengl can enable it (and the distribution packagers should make sure wine depends on opengl when building the package). tom

capture app output / output redirect

Hi everybody! Some time ago I had written a wrapper for a windows application using java and wine. It just captured stdout and stderror to get the windows applications output, but today I used it again and found that there is just plain nothing returned any more. Also executing wine app.exe &> log.txt just sends all output to the console. DirectDraw over Direct3D

Hi, As you all might know 2d games tend to be slow on Wine. For a lot of games the main bottleneck is depth conversion which happens in cases when the depth requested by the game and the X desktop color are not the same. As a way to speedup 2d Lionel assisted me with hacking wine's ddraw to let it use parts of the Direct3D backend. The final rendering is then done using OpenGL and the end result is that the videocard does the color conversion for us. The patch greatly improves the performance of 2d games which don't use GetDC/ReleaseDC a lot. While the patch fixes the conversion bottleneck for various games it doesn't handle 8bit paletted which is used by games like StarCraft as OpenGL doesn't support this by default. The second patch which I attached aswell adds support for this. On cards (atleast all nvidia cards from geforce 1 to the fx) that support the opengl paletted texture extension this extension is used. It makes StarCraft very fast atleast on my Athlon XP2000 system with a GeforceFX where the game was slow before. As not all cards support paletted textures I emulated this using a simple fragment shader. (a 1D texture containing the palette is used as a loopup table) The attached patches are still experimental and likely contain bugs so please test them. When the patches are applied set 'HKCU\Software\Wine\DirectDraw\UseDDrawOverD3D' to Y else it won't do anything :) Further note that lots of games like to use multiple threads for graphics... using the patch games use 'd3d' (or actually opengl) which adds more multithreaded d3d games :) Games like command&conquer, redalert, total annihilation and lots of others became multithreaded. (they crash quite quickly due to some critical section in x11drv) All have fun with the patches and please report any issues that appear so that i can fix the patches and submit them to wine-patches, Roderick Colenbrander

git patch to gmail draft script

Hey all, I've hacked up a little script that takes your committed git changes and puts a draft in your gmail draft folder for each committ that contains a changelog and the attached diff. To use the script, make sure you have python installed. You'll also need to change the variables at the top of the script to match your specifics. The script is pretty simple, so if you don't like the format of the email it wouldn't be hard to change. The process goes like so: 1) make your committs, but when you're writing the changelog entry for the committ, make sure to put all the changes you would have in the Changelog section of the email ie for one of my recent patches, the committ message was, * Use DelNode itself for the directory recursion. * Handle the dwFlags parameter. * Factor out file creation and deletion. * Add test cases for DelNode and make them pass. you can use asterisks if you like or not, it won't affect the script. 2) ./makedraft.py 3) the script calls git-format-patch for you and loops through all the committs 4) the script asks you for a subject (of the email) for each committ 5) if you don't want to send a patch to wine-patches, enter 'stop' as the subject (minus the quotes) 6) the diffs will be in diff_dir and the drafts will be in your gmail drafts folder 7) append anything you need to the email and press send If you have any comments or suggestions, I'd like to hear them (I think the script is rather ugly myself, but it gets the job done :)) -- James Hawkins

dsound buffer underrun

I'm still having problems with the sound, something in the dsound mixer is wrong. Missing includes in dlls/wininet/netconnection.c

Hello, Robert! I'm sorry, but you keep breaking Wine for me. The latest change in dlls/wininet/netconnection.c (revision 1.18) doesn't compile. Two files need to be included - errno.h for error names and stdio.h for perror(). Actually, I think perror() should be avoided - Wine has its own error reporting mechanisms. A better workaround for compiling on FC4/x86_64

Hello! When trying to set up printing from Wine on Fedora Core 4 for x86_64, I have discovered that Wine fails to find many libraries, including libcups. It turns out that the development packages on Fedora Core 4 don't always provide *.so symlinks for 32-bit libraries. So I wrote this script. The script creates all missing links in one directory (/usr/local/lib is the default). Not only was libcups found next time, but also the old workaround with imake has become unneeded. The configure script runs out-of-box and finds X11 libraries. I'm posting the script here in hope that it will be useful for some Wine users. I'm not sure it it merits inclusion in Wine, but I would not object. -- Regards, Pavel Roskin

ConfigureNotify messages queuing up

Hello dear Wine developers, I was using Flash MX under Wine yesterday and I noticed that when I resize the window, the contents swirl around as resize messages get processed. I thought that maybe this could be avoided if the code in wine that processes ConfigureNotify messages from X and passes them on to the windows application could be made to not forward all the messages, but just the ones that mattered. I had a look at the source where this takes place (in dlls/x11drv/winpos.c) and put the following code in the X11DRV_ConfigureNotify function: XEvent more_events; . . . wine_tsx11_lock(); while(XCheckTypedWindowEvent(event->display,event->window, ConfigureNotify,&more_events)) { event=& (more_events.xconfigure); x = event->x, y = event->y; } wine_tsx11_unlock(); So what it does is that when processing ConfigureNotify messages it checks the message queue if there are more ConfigureNotify messages queued up, and only delivers the last one to the windows application. And actually things ran a bit smoother with this code in place! Maybe there are potential problems with this code, because it might mean that messages gets delivered in the wrong order, but I have some ideas how this could probably be taken care of. And also some other bits and pieces should be fixed for this to work. But what do you think about the idea, is it worth exploring further? In that case I could submit a proper patch for this... -- Mikael

Debugging winelib apps in Eclipse

Does anyone know how to set up Eclipse to debug winelib applications? I tried just replacing 'gdb' with 'winedbg' on the "Debugger" tab on the "Debug" window. After Eclipse says "Launching..." there is an error that says "Process terminated." After reviewing the winelib debug docs, I found that there is a --gdb switch to winedbg so I added that as a "C/C++ Program Argument" on the "Arguments" tab of the same window... a long shot, and it didn't work. This is on Fedora Core 4, with Eclipse 3.1 (yum updated from the 3.1M6 version that comes with FC4), and with the wine 0.99.2 FC4 rpm. Any leads? Thanks ... mo
