Help debugging a SEH

Hi, I've been trying to locate an odd bug in the game Perimeter. The crash happens when execution changes to x41 bytes into the ProcessHeap structure, so I assume that there's some stack corruption. Anyhow, I've added a break point into RtlFreeHeap when it gets sent and address of 0x7caa12a0, the debugger kicks in but every time I try pass / step/ next or continue nothing I get another exception and end up in RtlFreeHeap again with exactly the same parameters passed as last time. This is preventing me from stepping out into Perimiers code so I can see what may be causing the problem. Any ideas on howto debug this one. Hello! You can get the amount of videoRam from the x-server log (python script attached). This is a little unsafe since the video driver is responsible for logging this info and I don't know if my script works on the format of all drivers. Also, certain drivers (fbdev) don't output this at all. Then again, there is no hardware openGL support for this anyway ;-). Another way to obtain the videoRam would be to use 'lspci -v'. This is however not error prone either since the the the size reported by lspci is not necessarily correct. regression in kernel OpenFile

Hi, This patch http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-patches/2005-October/021218.html causes regression in 'No One Lives Forever Demo' Method to reproduce: Download 'No One Lives Forever Mega Mix Demo - Version 1.002' from http://www.noonelivesforever.com/downloads/ (ftp://ftp.lith.com/pub/nolf/NOLFDemo.zip) unzip and install the game start the game wine NOLFDEMO.exe the game will start to load sit in a loop. reverting the patch corrects the problem. NOTE: The game attempts to create a file c:\Program Files\Fox\No One Lives Forever Demo\Save\Summary.sav The file must not exist for the regression to show, so it should be deleted, if it exists, before testing. With the patch applied the game can be made to start by creating the file echo "" > Summart.sav. Hi, I got wine compiling on x86_64 with some 32bit libs today and tested HL2 again. Steam updates and works just fine, but if I want to start HL2 it always throws a message "The latest version of Microsoft DirectX is required to play Half-Life 2" I've updated the DirectX version string to the latest version "Version"="4.00.09.0904" but this doesn't help. Could someone help me to debug for what else HL2 checks? The console outputs only fixme:d3d:IWineD3DImpl_GetDeviceCaps Caps support for directx9 is nonexistent at the moment! Hello, during the weekend i run winetest-200510121000-paul-mingw.exe and winetest-200510131000-paul-mingw.exe on my NT4 box and clicked on the button to submit the test results. The progress bar for submitting the test results finished without error, but the test results did not show up on the web site. Does anyone else have/notice the problem? Bye Stefan

16 bit code, breakpoints?

Hi, How do you set breakpoints in 16 bit code, or cant you? I can add in the winedos code a debugbreak at a particular point in time, and I really want to step through some of the code following the return to see why something is happening. If I do, for example, break 0x1257:0x33f3 or *0x1257:0x33f3 it doesn't work. Jason

Reality check

There was a discussion here about 2 months ago, where I asked for a way to embed WINE config strings into Win32 executable (for example, as string resources). I was told that it is better to fix the problem rather than to create workarounds, and that fixing bugs is trivial and takes at most 2-3 days as soon as it is reproducible. I didn't argue much then but made a little experiment to prove my point. The point is the following: THE MOST DIFFICULT THING IN GETTING BUG FIXED IS TO GET SOMEBODY WORK ON IT. The same applies both to commercial environments and to open source ones equally. Experiment illustrates it very well: I've found an application that experiences the problem with sympthoms which are very similar to ours, can be installed in 5 minutes and the problem can be reproduced in 3 clicks. And I've opened a bug in WINE's bugzilla: #3270 (another one #3269 was opened for another incompatibility). Result is the following: IN 6 WEEKS NOBODY EVEN TOOK A LOOK AT BOTH THOSE BUGS. Commctl32 and uxtheme bugs

Hi all, I just found this on msdn http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/shellcc/pl… and http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnwxp/html… I think it does tell us that we need commctl version 6 in order to get theming, but we are using version 5.0 implementation. The above article also mentions how to use commctl version 5 with uxtheme, but we need some concrete theming/non theming examples inorder to fix the notiious WMGETTEXT bug that came with unicodification of controls. This makes the Battlefield 2 demo go a bit further, before crashing again, due to unimplemented call ntdll.dll.NtSetSystemInformation. The mask parameter is not initialized by RtlDosPathNameToNtPathName_U (it returns TRUE in that first block), and then you get an invalid dereference later.

New themes question

Now that Wine supports different theme packs for Windows, would it be possible to render Windows widgets using the native current desktop KDE/Gnome theme? Also other stuff like font size, name and colors for Windows widgets, could they all be unified? That would *really* be something:). NSIS problem?

Hi, It seems that NSIS installers have regressed in Wine 0.9 - at least, the PE Explorer setup which looks and feels like an NSIS based installer won't install with a "The folder name is invalid" error message. I poked at this a bit but got nowhere. Can anybody confirm/deny it's a problem with all NSIS installrers? If the problem is just with PE Explorer then we can leave it, otherwise I think we should try and figure it out before 0.9 - NSIS is a very popular installer these days and not running it for 0.9 would be a disaster. thanks -mike

The proper solution is to get this particular bug fixed one way or another. Frank Richter proposed a patch, but it hasn't been committed.
