USB support for wine, status?

Hi folks, While trying to get one of my games to run, I realized that wine is still missing USB support (see bug 1393). Following the discussion in the archive, it seems like noone is working on this right now. Am I correct in that assumption? There were some suggestions to discuss this on WineConf2005. Was it? MSHTML SoC project summary

Hello. As Dimi suggested, I'm writing here a summary of my SoC project. I was working on MSHTML implementation. More about what is MSHTML is on the wiki: http://wiki.winehq.org/MozillaIntegration so I won't rewrite it here. MSHTML generally works as HTML is displayed, but there is still a bit to do. The thing that blocks correct implementation is loading pages from stream. It prevents correct implementation of functions like stop or refresh. What I mean here is that the function Load gets IMoniker interface that should be used to load the page, but the current implementation just gets URL by GetDisplayName and lets Gecko load the page. Not only it is a hack, it limits the functionality so that only protocols supported by Gecko may be used - which definitely is not what we want. Among others HTML Help, because of this, can't work with current implementation, as it uses mk protocol. There is some code that allowed us to implement it correctly, but presently it's disabled. I gave more info about this in comment to the patch: http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-patches/2005-August/020059.html Before I'll enable it again in CVS, I'd like to have a better URLMoniker implementation (most apps use it to pass IMoniker to the Load function but the current Load implementation hides bugs in it). First thing that needs to be done with URLMoniker is to switch it to use the pluggable protocol. That means rewriting most of URLMoniker, but, first of all, these protocols have to be correctly implemented. I have almost finished http implementation, so there remain https and ftp. That's what I'm going to work on in the nearest future, however now it can't go to the CVS before 0.9 release (correct me if I'm wrong). Other things that have to be done are: - More functionality of MSHTML: there are leaks in its functionality. Although I don't think edit mode is something we should really care, there are things like refresh or stop. - WebBrowser control implementation - when we have its true implementation, MSHTML will become truly useful and in most apps HTML pages should work out of box. Hi people, I was hanging around in the winehq irc channel for one and a half month or so. I recognized that many questions are asked frequently. So I want to ask you, what you think about an irc-bot in the channel, that logs everything that's written. The idea is to create archives (like the mailinglist archives, but daily) which everyone can read and maybe find a solution for his/her problem. Also users who don't use irc, would have access easily. Maybe thats not a new idea, but I couldn't find anything about this in the mailinglists archive. So, what do you think about this? Undefined references

Under solaris I get some undefined references popping up from yesterdays cvs (that I'm not used to seeing). Undefined first referenced symbol in file GetStartupInfoA ../../dlls/libwinecrt0.a(exe_main.o) GetModuleHandleA ../../dlls/libwinecrt0.a(exe_main.o) GetCommandLineA ../../dlls/libwinecrt0.a(exe_main.o) WinMain ../../dlls/libwinecrt0.a(exe_main.o) I'm used to seeing main undefined in libraries (presumably because the abblications using the dlls define the symbol), but not this collection. the wine executable fails with wine: failed to initialize: ld.so.1: wine: fatal: relocation error: file /opt/cfw/wine/lib/wine/ntdll.dll.so: symbol GetCommandLineA: referenced symbol not found Which seems to suggest it shouldn't be this way. Apparently there is a library that isn't being linked properly somewhere. Bob

CreateFile access/sharing problem

Any suggestions for how to handle a difference in file access and sharing handling between Wine (20050830) and WinXP? A program demonstrating the problem is attached below. A 3rd party installer program for a VST plugin is calling CreateFile with dwDesiredAccess = 0x1f01ff and dwSharedMode = FILE_SHARE_WRITE. It then calls ReadFile, which fails in Wine (error 5) but succeeds in WinXP. My "solution" (polite term) was to force GENERIC_READ|GENERIC_WRITE access in ntdll/NtCreateFile if the sharing type is FILE_SHARE_WRITE. I have not been able to figure out from the header files what named constants the program used for dwDesiredAccess, so I hard coded it with the values the program used in my example. But I did notice that FILE_ALL_ACCESS is a different value in Wine and my VC98 headers from DevStudio 6. In Wine it is: (STANDARD_RIGHTS_REQUIRED|SYNCHRONIZE|0x1ff) In VC98: (STANDARD_RIGHTS_REQUIRED|SYNCHRONIZE|0x3ff) Is this a Wine bug? The "access" and "sharing" parameters to CreateFile are making me feel stupid. A new tool to interact with Bugzilla

Documentation of Parallel and Serial port configuration?

Hi again, Now that all my 'issues' about installing Wine 20050930 are resolved, I'm running a clean install like a completely new user and taking notes so I can document what *real* new users might get confused by, and what they need to do (as such a long-term Wine user myself, there are a lot of things that used to need to be done that are no longer needed, and things that now need to be done that didn't need to before) to get the Wine base system running optimally. (So far, Wine is doing quite well, btw-- I've only run winecfg and set up my drives, but the several sub-operations that I know needed to occur, such as creating the .wine directory, and correctly symlinking within dosdevices all did occur correctly, which is quite nice). The thing is, there's a question on wine-users as to how to configure parallel ports in the absence of the config file. Since I was running winecfg, I looked, and I don't see any configuration possible for parallel (or serial, since that might also be needed) ports. I myself don't use my ports, nor do I use any programs that need to connect to said ports, so I can't confirm that they would be automatically detected and configured (although I would imagine/deeply hope that they are, if the ports are properly set up on the system as a whole). However, naturally this user is not the only one who's going to want to know if they have to edit system.reg or something to configure their ports, and I certainly don't want to guess or assume in the docs. There's not even any 'status' output in winecfg, saying that there are parallel ports or serial ports detected and where, so how can a user verify said ports, and what must they do to change the port configuration if necessary? This is probably also a valid question for external MIDI ports, which are important to the audio community (which seems to need Windows apps since the native pro sound apps are not yet quite up to par). Any further information appreciated. Holly

How to generate a code page file?

Okay, one more spam. I want to generate a new code page file for code page 20261, the T.61 (Teletex) code page. The comments in the c_*.c files in libs/unicode say the files are generated, so I was wondering.. by what? There's no file for 20261 on the unicode.org web site, but I wrote a Windows program that spits out the encoding of each unicode character in 20261. On fedora core 4 and wine version 20050930 and CVS from 20051005 I get wineesd error during make depend. Can anyone giver me hints on figuring out whats making it hiccup. Sorry if this has already been discussed just joined the list, I did look through the archive though and didn't see anything. Thanks for any help.

RH8 spec for 20050830

Can someone who understands wine build issues review this RPM spec file for me, please? The RPMs for Redhat 8 are getting pretty long in the tooth on the Wine downloads page... dating back to May 24. I wanted to build a source RPM to work with, so I modified the 20050524 spec file for 20050830. It seems that there are changes in fonts and documentation. I removed some lines that were keeping rpmbuild from working. But I feel like I am tampering with issues beyond my grasp. Do the attached changes to the spec file look ok (temporarily marked with "todo")? Any gotchas? Anything missing? DirectDraw driver question

Hello, Wine has 2 DDraw drivers: An accellerated HAL driver and a software-based user driver. I've noticed that the HAL driver uses many basic functionality from the user + gdi driver, and that the hal driver is the prefered one. RE: Cannot compile 20050830 on Solaris 9

The only Solaris 9 binary I could find was from his website at: http://www.members.optushome.com.au/bobl/ The only problem is that it is 20040309, which is over a year and a half old and it has the RTLD_FIRST problem. various combinations of symlinking /usr/ccs/bin/as to /opt/sfw/bin/gas and back, with and without running configure between makes does change the output significantly. Some combinations give the Assembler Message Unknown pseudo-op '.half', but most combinations give the illegal mnemonic or dozens of the following error: (standard input): Assembler messages: (standard input): 4802: Error: Rest of line ignored. First ignored character is '@'' Since changing the symlink appears to change the behaviour, I would assume that gcc IS trying to use as instead of gas, but it also seems that adding the symlink and running configure should make it use gas. Now Im really confused. I read somewhere that someone had to maually configure gcc to use gas. Not sure how to do that at all, but now that is my next task. BadMatch recurring errors

A lot of people are complaining about BadMatch on #winehq and in a lot of bug reports (old or new). Does someone know what they are about ? Organizing more Wine bug triage

Wine's bugzilla has 375 unconfirmed bugs reported since the beginning of the year. A fair number of these are worth fixing, but don't have good recipes for how to reproduce them. I think it's time to make a concerted effort to recruit more Wine users to help triage bug reports, so wine developers can spend less time sorting through poor bug reports. As a first stab, I've created a web page, http://kegel.com/wine/qa describing bug triage and giving easy steps for people who are interested in helping. Please have a look. Problem Resolve

Hi, I had a problem with Wine20050830 compilation. Error: error parse before "BerElement"; in lines: 289, 290, 322, 323 in "wine/dlls/wldap32/winldap_private.h" file. In file winldap.h I found declaration of BerElement type. This header is not included in winldap_private.h. I put declaration of BerElement type to winldap_private.h and it resolved the problem. I tried add line: #include "winldap.h" to winldap.h too, but it makes double declaration errors. I'm sorry if my English is horrible :) Well I hope my letter will be helpful. Perhaps this error appear only on my computer (?) :D Fun of your Wine.

The main purpose of this patch is to make SetCooperativeLevel(hwnd, DDSCL_SETFOCUSWINDOW) work. Segfault on fedora core 4

Sorry if this sounds like a user question. Running wine on my P4 with Fedora core 4 segfaults immediately, but doesn't drop into the debugger. Trying to run, say, winecfg in a debugger gives me: WineDbg starting on pid 0xa Process of pid=0x0000000a has terminated This never returns; a ps list shows winedbg and wineserver are still running. Pressing Ctrl-C kills it. Running with a relay trace shows the last thing is a return from kernel32.TlsAlloc(). I'm asking here because I haven't seen it raised before except back in April when there was no resolution. The suggested workaround (disable SELinux) doesn't work for me. Is this a known problem?
