Installing Palm Desktop

Hi Uwe, I figured out how to install Palm Desktop, perhaps this might prove useful to someone: 1. Install native Windows Installer manually. To do this, install dcom98 first. Then run instmsia.exe. The install will complain, but it will leave behind all the files you need in Windows\Installer\InstMsi0. Copy all the files in there to Windows\system, and set msi.dll and msiexec.exe to native. 2. Install Windows Script 5.6. You can download it from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0a8a18f6-249c-4a72… Keep in mind that it's the English version though. To install it, set setupapi to builtin and run the file. 3. Run Palm Desktop setup like normal, and it will install everything you need. Of course, running palm desktop is a different story (there is a crash in WinMM that stops it from running.) I'm currently working on getting Hotsync to work with my USB cradle using the visor driver, but there's some problems with that. I'll post a dump of the messages I get and see if I can make something happen. Thanks for the help :). James

Using a private itss.dll header

Hi, I need access to the definition of the IITStorage interface which is only defined in dlls/itss/itss.h. This interface is used to gain access to CHM help files. The Win32 public headers don't have this interface publicly available, so would that restrict us from moving itss.h to wine/include? Another solution would be to copy itss.h to dlls/hhctrl.ocx and use that, but that seems like a waste to me. Anyone have any ideas? -- James Hawkins

Proper way to test a specific locale

Could somebody indicate me on the proper way to write a test for one specific locale? By this I mean, even if the user has LANG=en defined in the environment, the test should (temporarily) force the code path taken as if LANG=es_EC was defined in the environment. I am asking this because I want to write a test that demonstrates a difference between floating-point formatting in native oleaut32 versus builtin, that only shows up when a locale other than LANG=en is used, and I want this test to actually test the difference even for US/UK testers. I am trying to extend functionality of the MSVCRTD_operator_new_dbg(), so did #include "msvcrt/crtdbg.h" in the file dlls/msvcrtd/debug.c . Is that OK? Altiagent systray problem

Altiagent from Altigen (control-panel for "real" IP-telephones) is now working mostly like I'd expect it to work, except when I minimize the window. It disappears from the taskbar and is supposed to have an icon in the systray, but the systray is empty so I cannot retrieve the window again. Also the systray is in a separate window, not attached to gnome's applet bar. Is this how it should be? pointer to __cdecl function

GetOpenFileName and typing directory names into the edit box

About a month and a half ago the following change was committed to CVS: r20659 (orig r20659): troy | 2005-06-06 09:20:44 +1000 Huw Davies <huw(a)codeweavers.com> If a folder is selected on Open then browse into it, otherwise we should return the path in the edit box whether that be a folder or a file. Don't add extensions to a folder. One of the effects of this appears to be that when browsing for a file, you can no longer type in the name of an existing directory and be taken straight to that directory. Since Windows allows this, this seems to be somewhat less than desirable. Additionally it seems a lot of the code for FILEDLG95_OnOpen makes direct calls to the API in cases where the IShellFolder interface could provide the same information. It seems to me that the IShellFolder interfaces should be preferred in such situations because the IShellFolder object is best positioned to know how to process a path given the current context. For instance, if we are browsing the Unix heirarchy then the UNIXFS implementation of IShellFolder might want to allow the user to enter UNIX directory paths (and probably *should*, since that's the type of path we are effectively presenting to the user).

I've installed MS SFU successfully. I can now use gcc under wine on Linux to compile source for Linux under wine on Linux ... ;) A bit bizarre, and a decidedly roundabout way of doing things, but what's a challenge for? I had a go at installing the x-window-system-on-MS-Windows package shown but it halted with these error messages: [wparish@localhost sfu+X]$ wine x-win612LX.exe fixme:win:SetWindowTextA cannot set text "InstallShield Wizard" of other process window (nil) fixme:dialog:MSGBOX_OnInit task modal msgbox ! file locking

I've been playing around with file locking and Wine, namely the fact that Wine doesn't have any. Is there any way around this, maybe placing the burden on a filesystem? If I wanted to share files between two different users (say with something dumb like file permissions 666), is there any way to prevent the two people from stomping on each other? -Brian

Keyboard Layout

My computer works with Linux 8.2. I have tried to install (to execute) a Windows Program on my Computer. The wine-program started and the windows sreen appeared. Suddenly the programm stopped and I got the message: Your keyboard layout was not found! Using closest match instead (German keyboard layout without dead keys) for scancode mapping. Please define your layout in windows/x11drv/keyboard.c and submit them to us for inclusion into future Wine releases. I don´t know how to define my keyboard layout. It would be very nice, when you could explain me how to define my keyboard layout. Thank You

operating with non-existent files

When I operate with "c:\nonexist_subdir" and "c:\\nonexist_subdir" filenames in Wine and in NT5, most of API functions set the same LastError. That functions are: OpenFile() CreateFileA() SetCurrentDirectoryA() FindFirstFileA() GetFileAttributesA() But if I call this: IShellFolder_ParseDisplayName(IDesktopFolder, NULL, NULL, cNonExistDirW, NULL, &newPIDL, 0) then I get two different codes: * for the first one HRESULT_FROM_WIN32(ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND), * for the second one E_FAIL. This is true for winME and win2k (and not for Wine). Do we need to distinguish between these two filenames in Wine? If so, on top of what functions should it be implemented? Do someone know, how native IShellFolder_ParseDisplayName works in the case of IDesktopFolder? I think the double-slash in the filename has something to do with object names, but I have no ground here.

I'd argue that the correct naming is "AMD64" as Amd created that architecture and named it like that. In this case Intel happens to be AMD64 compatible. Status of HTML Help

Hey, In light of a recent wine-users' query about wine's help system, I've decided to shed some light on the status of wine's HTML Help implementation. I decided not to send patches till I had the base interfaces fleshed out, and this process is almost complete. As of now you can pass a .chm file to hh.exe which will bring up the help viewer. The toolbar with the Back, Stop, Refresh etc buttons is complete (minus correct icons..I can't draw), and the user can browse through the contents of the help file (the most important part). I still have to implement the navigator pane, but that's really secondary to the browser. I have a working .exe and visual studio project if anyone wants to take a look at it before I start submitting patches; just reply and I'll send it to you.
