Wine and Process Explorer

Hi, I was just wondering if it's worthwhile to get Process Explorer running on Wine. It contains a lot of 'under-the-hood' stuff which is maybe not needed anywhere else (except the taskmgr, maybe). There are lots of unimplemented calls and lots of undocumented as well. I've found some documentation on CodeGuru and Reactos seems to have some parts implemented. I've started adding things but get into lots of new exceptions. It will at least broaden my knowledge about Wine/Windows. Cheers, Paul.

i am trying to get ie6 installed, i looked at the aol boards and they suggested. that i get Ie6 winetools aol communicator. aol communicator will allow me to get online with my aol account. unfortunatly as i try to install ie6 it complains about ole missing. unfortunatly i cannot get online to download the missing files through linux. because i need aol communicator working to get online(think of it as a custom dialer) so any help would be great. i've used: wine-20050111-mdk.i586.rpm Cedega-20041223-cvs.i586.rpm winetools-211jo.tar.gz wine-20050310-mdk.i586.rpm i am using mandrake linux 10.1

Hi, I have a win32 dll which exports about 30 functions. I've used winedump with the -f and -I flags to create stub/proxy functions which use LoadLibrary. Please CC my on all responses as I am not subscribed to the list. It generates functions like so.. Remote debugging

Hello, I am new to wine. I try to get a PC software (I have the source code) to run on Linux but as the project may take a while, I try to prepare a development environement that will make my life easier. I have Wine from CVS, and msvcmon (the remote part of Visual studio) running on Linux. I can launch the software from my windows machine, and I can break on my source code running un Linux. But step doesn't work. Would someone have an idea of where in wine source code I should have a look ? Is there any document that you know that could help me to understand how it works, and the architecture ? Thanks David Hemmo

Hello, as described in http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2813 , Origin6 crashes with the edit.c patch, implementing !ES_AUTO[HV]SCROLL (http://www.winehq.org/hypermail/wine-cvs/2005/02/0506.html). A rather concise but hopefully complete enough trace can be found attached to the bug. Unfortunally, the edit.c patch is too big for me to see anything obvious. Since Origin is of some importance to me, I'm also also willing to pay some bounty for it. Tobias PS: I think there is a further problem burried since even without that patch it won't work - though it doesn't crash (but endless-loops) and proceeds a bit further. I'm trying to nail down the other patch as well (it should be around the same day; unfortunally compiling Wine takes quite long).

Hello everybody, - a while ago we were debating an initiative named "Wine-Probe"[1] (which would roughly equal "Wine-tasting" in english) on wine-devel that was in the making between Wirtschaftsförderung Region Stuttgart GmbH and us (ITOMIG). Its goal is to make local software vendors aware of the potential bussiness opportunity in a Wine-based port or a Wine/Linux version of their software. It's also designed to be beneficial for the Wine project as a whole, e.g. by providing AppDB entries and success stories. This is to let you know that we've officially launched the initiative by today. It has already made it into several (german speaking) news sites[2], so I'd say things look promising. We're looking forward to the interest and feedback we'll get in the weeks to come. Cheers, David P.S. Hi, I haven't seen recent information on wine and twain. I already sent a similar mail to wine-users and, in a second step to wine-devel, but without any information back until now. May be the trick "Wine and twain" to "Wayne and twin" will give me more chance to be listen. Or may be my question is really stupid? >From a recent mail that I got, the problem is of interest for at least another people too. To be honest, she was at an earlier stage of installing Fine Reader and nothing came up for her wine installation. My problem is accessing the scanner from Fine Reader. I am not a specialist of Wine and simply use Winetools basic installation to install my fake drive, and then use standard wine to install all my Windows programs, including Noteworthy Composer recently (with timidity as midi synthesiser as reported on apps-db) and Fine Reader. Here is the question: I am trying to test a Finereader Office (version 5) with an USB scanner. Everything seems working. But I get scanner not ready when searching for scanner. Sane, gimp or whatever program using sane are working well with my scanner. redirecting text to standard out

Hi, I am running a windows app under wine that prints text to the screen. This can be copied and pasted into wine's notepad. Is there any way to get wine to simply output all text written by the app to standard out? This would save me a lot of hassle :) I don't mind if it outputs far too much (text from buttons etc) as I am planning on filtering the information in any case. It has been suggested to me to edit TextOut (or ExtTextOut) in dlls/gdi somewhere and simply add a printf. I had a look but this is the first time I have ever looked at wine source and I am completely baffled. Any help is very much appreciated. Cheers, Raphael

Should all A functions forward to their respective W's?

Hi, In the current state of wine, we have several A/W functions. Sometimes both the A and W functions are separately implemented with an ansi and unicode implementation respectively. Other A/W functions have the A forward to the W, converting the ansi to unicode. For all the functions that can, should we forward all A to their W counterparts? When it comes to the conformance test suite, this would be ideal. Only the A functions would have to be tested and in doing so, we test the A/W conversion and the functionality of the W functions (we're striving for all-unicode internally anyway). This would reduce the number of bugs, and the time it takes to fix current bugs. When both A and W are implemented and we find a bug in one of them, we have to remember to fix the same bug in the other function. For most of the functions, converting ansi to unicode is boilerplate code. This process could even be a janitorial project. What do you think? -- James Hawkins

Last year's raving success (I exchanged keys with Marcus) gives appetite for more. So, if you always wanted to have a PGP key that most of the free software will know [1]. If you wanted to be able to carry out encrypted secure conversations online. Or if you just want a chance to brag about what well connected key you have [2]. We will (try) to hold a PGP key signing party at wineconf this year. In order to participate, it is positively absolutely necessary that you: 1. Have a PGP key. You can generate one for yourself using gpg. 2. Send the PGP key finger print to me AT LEAST A WEEK BEFORE THE CONFERENCE. Any later then that, and it is not certain that we'll manage to get your key on the printed piece of paper that is necessary for carrying out the party. 3. Bring a copy you can trust to wineconf, to make sure other people are really signing your key (i.e. - that I'm not pulling anybody's leg). 4. Bring an identifying ID to wineconf. Two is preferable. Passport or a driver license in a language people can read. If you can only bring one, a passport is definitely preferable. The full details of what a key signing party is, why are the procedures as they are, and what's so important about *not* signing the keys with your laptop at the party can be found at http://www.cryptnet.net/fdp/crypto/gpg-party.html Note: No aliases on PGP keys. If your PGP key says "lord master of compiler optimization", then your passport had better say the same or no one will be able to sign your key.
