Still trying to get Wine running with kernel 2.6

Hi list, I'm still trying to get Wine running with kernel 2.6. I've finally got Wine built (OpenGL header prob.), but now it says this about files that Wine could run before my switch to 2.6: $ wine machine.exe: Warning: Language '' was not recognized, defaulting to English. err:module:map_image Could not map section .text, file probably truncated wine: could not load L"G:\\Corp\\machine.exe" as Win32 binary The only program (Skype) I have which actually starts (or well, almost starts) displays a msgbox: Exception EAccessViolation in module uxtheme.dll at 000063BE. Hallo, I didn't install wine, but run it in-place by giving the full path of the wine wrapper. Now I have a 16 bit application that doesn't find the dlls it wants to load. What happens is: - NE_LoadDLLs tries to laod CTL3DV2.DLL - wine_dll_get_owner resolves the symbolic link to ctl3d/ctl3d32.dll.so - and rejects is as it contains a slash With additinal debug output this looks like: fixme:module:NE_LoadDLLs BON: buffer "CTL3DV2.DLL" fixme:module:MODULE_LoadModule16 BON: dllname "ctl3dv2.dll" BON: readlink "/spare/wine/wine/dlls/ctl3dv2.dll.so" returned 20 errno 0"Success" BON: readlink "ctl3d/ctl3d32.dll.so" ^ Commenting out the clause that checks for a slash lets the application proceed. What's the correct solution for this problem? Debugging problem

I've got an application that is crashing in Wine and I am trying to debug it. However, I am runnign into a problem before I even get started... When I go into the debugger (winedbg) it complains that it cannot find "debug information" in any of the 32bit DLL's. Indeed, from within the debugger I cannot find nor break at any of the DLL functions... which is quite a drag. I'm sure there is some simple solution to this relted to a problem with my setup or the way I am running the debugger, but I can't figure it out. I have tried recompiling and reinstalling all of wine with the -g compiler option (seems reasonable, I suppose) but that doesn't solve it. I've told wine/configure to "--enable-debug", to no avail. I don;t know what I'm missing and I can't find any useful suggestions in any of the documentation or FAQ's (not that thtere is nothing useful... just I haven't yet found it, though I have looked) Any hints/help would be most appreciated. sample error message: No debug information in 32bit DLL 'C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\USER32.DLL' (0x40690000) -- Andrew L. make html not working

Hy, Looks like 'make html' in documentation is using 'db2hml -u' which is not working on my system. If I remove the '-u' from the Makefile it works ok. Don't know what the '-u' option is for though. Lotus Notes broken in recent CVS

Through iterative CVS pulls, I have established that the problem I see with Lotus Notes not working occurred between 01/02/2004 and 01/03/2004. I had thought that the problem came up only in the last week, but I must have been mistaken. segmentation fault when using kernel32.dll.so and oleaut32.dll.so

Hi, I need functions like 'MultiByteToWideChar', 'SysAllocStringLen', etc which are in kernel32.dll.so and oleaut32.dll.so libraries. I have some of questions regarding using them. - How can I link these libraries with my program. Using option -lkernel32.dll looks for libkernel32.dll.so file. - I tried renaming the files and also creating soft links using libkernel32.dll.so to kernel32.dll.so. - If I link like that, my program is giving a 'segmentation fault' error. - I tried using libraries produced by compiling on my uptodate RH8.0 machine and also the libraries from the RH8.0 rpm available on sourceforge.net. - I implement an XPCOM class using these libraries and when I try to create an object, it gives the 'Segmentation Fault'. - I tried using libwine.so but it doesn't contain the above functions I need. warning to "wine on cygwin" experimenters

I got cygwin to compile wine to the point where wine-install tried to run regedit on winedefault.reg. I should have been paying closer attention. The good news is that the wine regedit.exe works like a charm. The bad news is that it overwrote my actual windows registry with the bunk values in winedefault.reg. Not gonna be very easy to roll back. So... WATCH OUT! That last step's a doozy.

You can check it out at http://www.codeweavers.com/site/compatibility/ but I think it's fair to describe it as the appdb on steroids. I wanted to announce it here to give folks a sense of what we're up to, and to apologize a bit in advance for stepping on the toes of folks that have been doing good work within the appdb. However, the #1 problem we have had over the past year or so is how to handle all the many, many requests we get for applications not on our 'supported' list. We've basically ended up sending people away, which has been pretty unsatisfying. Further, we haven't had any good way of determining what our priorities should be; we follow major paying clients, but beyond that, we mostly just follow our gut hunches in establishing priorities. We hope to end that; this new center lets our customers vote for apps, and lets non customers make pledges. We can hopefully follow those pledges to get apps running (and we'd probably be open to having wine hackers committing to support apps in exchange for a piece of the pledges, but we haven't gotten there yet). We've also, we hope, set the stage for a major new Wine related initiative - we hope to encourage lots of ISVs to certify their apps against Wine. The rationale for this is pretty simple - apps won't run on Wine as well as they do on Windows until developers start testing against Wine. They've got to start somewhere - we're trying to give them that beginning. We're obviously also hoping that this will help us to continue funding the work we've been able to do on Wine so far. As much of a struggle as it's been at times, we really feel lucky that we've been able to do so much. We hope that these initiatives will give us an extra little boost so we can help push Wine over the hump. I sincerely believe that the day when we can honestly tell people "It will most likely work nicely on Wine" is not long off. I also believe in the tooth fairy and Santa Claus, so make what you will of that <grin>. At any rate, this is a brand new initiative for us; call it an 0.1.7 release. We're very open to comments and thoughts and suggestions, so I would greatly appreciate any public or private comments you have to make.
