Its a pointer to a structure. By running native cabinet.dll i found that the dll allocates two memory areas per file inside the cabinet that are not freed within the extract function. The first memory area is always 12 bytes. The size of the second one is the length of the filename without path plus 1. Hello all, I had completed the patch for IPersistFile::Load() and associated functions. In the last patch which I had submitted for review here, Mike McCormack had pointed out an incorrect assumption that I had made about all locales being DBCS. Thanks to him, many of you will not suffer ;) Now that I fixed that last (?) weeny, I had sent it to Mike for a review. However, it seems he's a bit down now, and after waiting for about a week for his reply, I thought maybe I should ask you guys to nitpick ;) I really send this in because I went through Mike Kost's post 'More Games Tested', and I saw lots of 'err:menubuilder' and 'err:menubuilder:WinMain failed to build menu item for C:\windows\Start Menu\Programs\.......\ShortcutName.lnk' messages in his report. Hopefully, this patch should solve it ... If I get any bug reports, I will be happy to fill them out,else this one's going to Alexandre (with a few cosmetic changes of course !) We don't need a A: drive, it's mostly useless these days anyhow (and can be accessed through other means anyhow). Yes, we need C: to be writable and have the Windows directories, which means it can't point to /. Fine. So we'll need another one (Z is OK) to point to /. For perfect usability however, we would need definitions for CD drives ... So Alexandre seems to be right: something at boot time needs to look for devices. Or we can just have C: point to /, and install a symlink into / for the Windows dir. But then we'll have to always follow symlinks which can be a problem. Darn! -- Dimi.

event.c freezes on XFilterEvent

Hi, I'm rather new to wine developement, and Xlib coding, and this is my first post to the list so bare with me please.... ;-) dlls/x11drv/event.c seems to freeze at XFilterEvent and brings the app to seizure ever since all the TSX functions have been gotten rid off... This is what happens: I run notepad, and start typing. Everything works fine until I hit shift+space which is the toggle for XIM (kinput in my case). Notepad freezes here. The trace on keyboard tells me that there is no character for the key combination and freezes right after; trace:keyboard:KEYBOARD_MapDeadKeysym no character for dead keysym 0x0000ffe1 >From my investigation, it seems that XFilterEvent (event.c, function process_events) <code> ignore = XFilterEvent( &event, None ); </code> is causing this. If I get rid of the whole check, and pass all the events to EVENT_ProcessEvent() , notepad would not freeze. XFilterEvent is supposed to return TRUE when the event is filtered by the XIM, but chances are that since the XIM functionalities are currently not really there, XFilterEvent cannot talk to the XIM context. As far as I remember when the TSX functions were there, the XIM window did pop up(despite XIM not working properly). I'm trying to trace the changes to see what might be causing this, but without much luck so far... I'm more than willing to try and fix this, as XIM support is critical for people from my part of the world (Japan, and most likely for Korea & China). We've been coming up with rather crude patches to have XIM work till now(upto 20031118), but can't get it to work because of this strange freezure we are experiencing.... If we also had working defaults for the users cdrom drive(s) and floppy drive then this would work quite well. Many users will want to install applications from cdrom. Do you really mean / and not ~? I sure don't want my C: pointing at /. And if there are more than one user how do I keep their stuff separate. Still having problems with Wine CVS

Hi, I posted before in wine-users, but I haven't had any answer. I compiled, as usual, wine from cvs, but in the last weeks I have this error every file I try to run: err:msg:QUEUE_CreateMsgQueue Cannot get thread queueMain exe initialization for L"C:\\Program Files\\DepWalker\\depends.exe" failed, status c0000142 Only the path changes (correctly), the status code is always the same. AutoCad 2000 latest status ?

I know there are interests in autocad 2000 status with wine. I was happy to read in http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?appId=86&versionId=102 that autocad 2000 actually starts up now, although there seams to be a file open problem. Hack for the '-pthread' at make depend

On my configuration, the 'artsc-config' script outputs '-pthread' along with the '-Isth' entries. That broke the 'makedep' procedure. It's trivial. The following patch handles this.

Registering the dlls? Is this the same as loading them? How would we know which dll was responsible for creating which registry entries? Is it that clear which one should do it? Would the code called during registration check to see if the default keys existed and if it didn't install the default values? Would the inf file be mostly keys we've added for workarounds with apps like installshield installers? I'm asking because I'd really like to have wine create its own default config to simplify the users life and wineinstall, and I'd also like to simplify package managers lives so they don't need to many special scripts. I'm also interested in integrating the ~/.wine/config file into the registry. So feel free to suggest places to look, work and what direction to head. Any experts on IsDialogMessage

Hi All Happy New Year to everyone and Welcome Back to Alexandre I am just about to start concentrating on IsDialogMessage, especially in the non-dialog context. Our program (suite) uses ActiveX controls extensively and is difficult to use because the TAB handling in particular is totally wrong. I will be using a trivial program with IsDialogMessage inserted into the main loop and will be trying to figure out the undocumented behaviour of this function (e.g. I am sure it internally handles redirecting to children etc.) The only comments I've noticed so far (about a year back) suggest that we really don't know much about this function, but I thought I'd ask if someone else has notes about what is wrong with it, how it should work, alternative web sites etc. or has uncommitted patches etc., just so that I don't duplicate work. [Bug 1903] using dead_diaeresis i.e. e + ¨ hangs wine

Hi, not sure if anyone else has experienced this. since patch http://cvs.winehq.com/patch.py?id=10332 was added to cvs (20031205), if I type a dead_diaeresis - "¨" followed by a letter, which would normally produce a "ë" or a "ü" it simply makes wine hang. removing this patch(I removed it on latest cvs) and the problem goes away, can someone find out why this causes an issue? -- grant williamson <traxtopel(a)fastmail.fm>

Windows dll replacement with Linux library

Hi, I wrote to the list a few weeks ago. I needed to support a USB device without changing the Windows dll that I have to use. I was trying to hack into wine to implement support for the USB device using CreateFile() and DeviceIoControl(). That was not a clean solution. The author of the Windows dll has agreed to support a mid level dll that would implement functions like USBDeviceOpen(), USBDeviceClose(), USBDeviceRead(), and USBDeviceWrite(). On Windows those would use CreateFile() and DeviceIoControl(), while on Linux they would use libusb calls. I followed the example from winelib user guide, chapter 5 "Using Linux libraries as DLLs" As an example I will talk just about USBDeviceOpen(). Here it is how it is declared together with a proxy function: HANDLE WINAPI USBDeviceOpen(const DWORD in_dwIndex); HANDLE WINAPI USBDeviceOpenProxy(const DWORD in_dwIndex); This function opens a specific device from a specific manufacturer. If more than one device connected In the spec file I put: 101 stdcall USBDeviceOpen (long) USBDeviceOpenProxy I used winemaker, configure, make, and make install. Now I have "USBUtils.dll.so in /

Its a good thing it was called pre5. After this one there are still a few minor things with one of the source files calling Heap_StrsupWtoA that needs to be moved inline and the NONAMELESS stuff. I have not done any work to address the NONAMELESSSTRUCT stuff except to just remove all cases of s1.u1 in ReactOS sources I ported. None of my patches to wine-patches reflect this change. If this is accepted I will send a patch in a few days to remove printdlg.h and to move a strdupW2A function inline in the offending source file. Once these changes are done and the NONAMELESS stuff is solved then comdlg32 will be mostly done of all Win16/32, PSDK and Wineism cleanups. Does anyone know if we already have a function that measures the true length of a window's text in the following way l = SendMessage (hwnd, WM_GETTEXTLENGTH,..) presumably allocate a buffer SendMessage (hwnd, WM_GETTEXT, 2(l+1)..)
