Getting game X to work under wine

But, given the recent flurry of commits, should I try to fix it by myself? Or is it better to wait a little more for the code to stabilize? Warcraft 3 Issues (RedHat 9)

Hello wine developers, I'm trying to get Warcraft 3 working on a redhat 9 system. Regardless of what I try, I am unable to make it work. I'd like to help the developers in whatever way I can. I'm not asking for help so that I can play games, I'm trying to give information to people who can use it. If this kind of information is not needed/wanted/required, please delete this message. Some information: I have tried Wine/Winex RPMs with no success, if you want error messages from them let me know and I will provide. I'm not a linux newbie, but I'm affraid to say that I am a wine newbie. I was given warcraft3 as a gift by someone less then litterate with computers so I'd figure I'd try to get it working on my naitive os. Wine's "config" program generated with : winesetuptk (tried winetools as well) Winetools ran into the no startup menu bug, which was fixed from searching the archives. I leave the config pretty much standard other then: [DllOverrides] "*" = "native, builtin, so" ;; (this was builtin, naitive, so) [Version] "Windows" = "win98" ;; needed for warcraft 3 install to work. If the config is needed in its entirety let me know and I will post it. I found some old instructions on how to make warcraft3 work, and it involved copying msvc*.dll from a windows 98 machine into /windows/system , as well as regsrv32.exe . I tried the install (wine /mnt/cdrom/install.exe) and got: fixme:msvcrt:_XcptFilter (-1073741819,0x406508f4)semi-stub wine: Unhandled exception, starting debugger... I read several things on the forums here and the transgaming forums (I've been trying winex cvs as well) The instructions I have said to update to the 1.05 patch to make it work, as well as to rename the Movies folder to something else so it wouldn't load the movies. I tried with and without renaming the movies dir. The Patch install works, but blanks fullscreen to black and I have to kill the wine process with ctrl-alt-f1. However if I setup [x11drv] "Desktop" = "Y" the patches install smoothly and I can see the selection. Of course I remove the Desktop=Y after the patches are run. If I remove /windows/system/SI*, it reverts to the output of the first time. I have also tried running wineserver first, and watching for usefull data in a wineserver -d, but I was unable to see anything that was obvious (tho I am not an expert) I thought perhaps I could use a windows 98 version of imm32.dll so I copied that over as well, which changes the output to just: fixme:ole:MSFT_DoTypeInfo Assign constructor/destructor memid err:aspi:SCSI_GetProcinfo Could not open /proc/scsi/scsi or with the same SI~.dlls the 2nd time. So i tried copying OLE*.* from a windows 98 copy and now get: fixme:win32:SetCriticalSectionSpinCount critsection=0x653cf7a0: spincount=1000 not supported fixme:win32:SetCriticalSectionSpinCount critsection=0x653cf810: spincount=1000 not supported err:aspi:SCSI_GetProcinfo Could not open /proc/scsi/scsi I have been playing with different options and whatnot all day, and have yet to find one that works. Hi Jason, Updating my cvs tree, Reinstalling Max Payne since I didnt had enough disk space - the game now loads ok. Yes, the "Chargement" (using french version) appears red, as it should. MaxPayne

I run nvidia drivers, xfree 4.3 (Mandrake 9.1). I run a no-cd version, and with sound disabled (Update [winmm] appropriately in wine config file). Works fine for me (except the red rather than blue backdrop on the loading screens which I havent been bothered to resolve yet) Jason

Anyone is planing to fix Main_DirectDraw_WaitForVerticalBlank soon? When I try to start Diablo I demo, it's one of the two ddraw fixme I get... Useful tool to do testing with different fake_windows

Hello, While writting the games compatibility list, i wanted to use a different fake_windows with every game. It was a bit bored, make the fake_windows and prepare the config files everytime. So i wrote a simple perl script what helps doing it. If you are interested in use it, uncompress the wineenv.tgz file in your home directory. Then edit the file wineenv.pl, modifing the vars regedit path, winedefault.reg path, and fake_windows base path. After edit the config file included in ".wineenv/config", with the info about your drives and your favourite options (it will be the default config), and finally rename your original ".wine" directory. It is very easy to use. Run "wineenv.pl name-of-environment", and the first time what you run it, it will create the fake_windows, and the config files for this fake_windows, and besides this fake_windows will be the active (it does a link from .wine to .wineenv/name-of-environment). The next times what you use "wineenv.pl name-of-environment" with the same "name-of-environment", it will do that "name-of-environment" the active one. Wine Status-DLLs Page Update

Hello, I have a first draft of all the updates for the DLLs page. If you have the time could you look it over and let me know what you think ? There are a couple DLLs that I dont have a status for yet. This will be the first time there listed here :) So any info on them is most appreciated. I want to split the DLLs page into three sections DLLs, DirectX, Multimedia is this alright with everyone ? anyone have any ideas about this ? I have also listed everything in alphabetical order. easy on the eyes and it makes it a little easier when updating this. I am aware Martin is no longer maintainer of ws_2 but im leaving him and Mike posted as the last (Recent primary worker). I'm really not sure what to do about the Documentation status as it has been brought up here before that MSDN has alot of Doc's in place. I could change all the (Nonexistent) entries to Poor ?? Or if you know the Doc status just let me know and it will be changed :) Any Ideas about this ?? I also have a working draft of the Status-Core page as well. Success Story with Tomb Raider 3

Thanks to the D3D/ddraw workers, the last storm of patches makes Tomb Raider 3 able to start. You must set ZBuffer to on to get all graphics, and we run into gray levels at the moment. Agent crashes when accessing attachments

Howdy, I just reinstalled my Linux system (HD crash), and at the same time moved to a RH9.0 distro. I read about the problems with the NPTL threading, and I have the latest CVS running (with the --with-nptl). Now when I have Agent running (which in all other respects seems fine) every time I go to add an attachment or save an attachment Agent crashes. Is this a known problem? GL Header question

Hi, I just wanted to apologize for the breaks caused by all the d3d8 commits. The gl headers are a real nightmare, and whereas we would have caught the problems over time, instead we get them all in one go. Just a question - What is the general feeling about us having our own gl headers. Our basic aim is to query support before using it, but we need to be able to compile in higher support than available on the build machine. I would initially see something as simple as a /include/wine/winegl.h, and we put all definitions in there (even if they would have come from glext, glx, glxext etc). To start with, it would only be used for d3d8 but probably ddraw support is easy. Comments? Jason

dlls/d3d8/device.c fails to compile

After the recent wave of commits, I'm getting a build failure for the following line in dlls/d3d8/device.c: IDirect3DBaseTexture8* cont = NULL; The failure looks as follows device.c:1989: syntax error before `*' device.c:1991: `hr' undeclared (first use in this function) device.c:1991: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once device.c:1991: for each function it appears in.) device.c:1991: `cont' undeclared (first use in this function) gmake[2]: *** [device.o] Error 1 gmake[2]: Leaving directory `/.amd_mnt/nashira/files5/test/wine/dlls/d3d8' gmake[1]: *** [d3d8] Error 2 gmake[1]: Leaving directory `/.amd_mnt/nashira/files5/test/wine/dlls' gmake: *** [dlls] Error 2 which indicates that IDirect3DBaseTexture8 is not a known type at that point.
