wcmd mark/paste

Hi, wcmd mark/paste has greatly improved since the last version, the current CVS feels very good so far. However, to copy text it is still not possible to drag over the text as in other X apps. In fact even if Context menu->Edit->Mark is selected it is necessary to use the keyboard to increase the selection area. This is not very quick because keyboard repeat is not used, so I have to hammer my arrow keys like I am playing an old Atari game! (perhaps related to the other X11 Clipboard thread currently) I'm glad to see the copied text is not corrupted anymore The wine debugger also exhibits this problem. The "quick edit" functionality is great, however I am still getting an extra date column on the right of my pastes when typing "dir" (date column is on the left of dir output). Regards JG

Thomas Brothers Digital Edition?

Has anyone tried to run the "Thomas Brothers Digital Edition" aka "Thomas Brothers DE 4.0" mapping software under Wine? http://www.thomas.com/prod/ (Anyone who lives in Los Angeles and has a car has a copy of the printed Thomas Brothers map; this is their digital equivalent.) A local businessman I know wants to switch his PCs to Linux, and this is one of the apps he requires. It's only $30, so I'll probably get a copy just to see, but I thought I'd ask here first. Music font problem

I originally posted this to comp.emulators.ms-windows.wine, where it was suggested I send a copy here. Please CC: replies to me as I'm not subscribed to wine-devel. TIA! I have been using a shareware program called Noteworthy Composer for many years on Windows, but am trying to switch to a Linux-only setup and this is one the last obstacles. I don't want to switch to the other Linux music programs as to my mind they don't provide as simple an interface as NWC does, and I already have many song files in the NWC format. The main problem with running this is that it uses its own TrueType Font, which doesn't display properly under Wine - I just get outline boxes instead of the note symbols. Here's how I got to where I am right now: I tried various RPM versions of wine on my RH8.0 system, and finally downloaded the Wine source and did a cvs update and build about a week ago. The first problem was that I was using a fake C drive and the NWCV15.TTF font was the only one found, and was being used for all text including menus & dialog boxes - this just doesn't make sense, the NWCV15 font is analagous to a symbol font and doesn't have text characters, so everything came out totally illegible, although recognizable enough to see that it was mostly working. I installed a few standard TTF fonts in the windows\Fonts directory to fix that, but then the program wouldn't start, complaining that it couldn't find its special font NWCV15.ttf, which had been correctly installed in the C:\Windows\Fonts directory. I ran wine with --debugmsg +font and added a few more TRACE() statements to dlls/gdi/freetype.c, and discovered that the font was being ignored by Wine because the program doesn't specify SYMBOL_CHARSET when requesting the font; Windows finds the font but Wine doesn't. There is a specific check in the routine WineEngCreateFontInstance to compare the font name requested with "Symbol" and in that case to set the charset being searched for to SYMBOL_CHARSET. When I add similar code for the font name "NWCV15" the program now starts up and finds its font, but doesn't display it correctly. My change is obviously highly specific to running this program, so there's obviously a significant algorithm difference between Wine and Windows when it comes to font selection of SYMBOL_CHARSET fonts. Now I can read the dialogs properly and the program runs pretty well (it even plays MIDI stuff properly after I installed the ALSA drivers from source - cool), but the score display is still only only showing boxes instead of the note heads and other symbols that appear in that font. The font file does show various expected glyphs if I install it in the xfs truetype directory and look at it using xfontsel, but I don't know of any other Linux tools for analysing .ttf files. Can anyone suggest what I should do next to try and get the NWCV15 font displaying properly? This is obviously an unusual font but I'm not sure whether that's causing the problems or not. Ideas? Hi ALL, I'm trying to port some windows program to Linux using Wine. I have C++ source code with Windows DLLs functions calls. The question is: how can I load DLL under Linux and call Windows function? I've tried LoadLibraryA(), PE_LoadLibraryExA() and SERVER_START_REQ( create_file ) without success. Incorrect locale selected

Hello, My locale is as follows: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8 LC_CTYPE=ja_JP.UTF-8 LC_NUMERIC=en_GB.UTF-8 LC_TIME=en_GB.UTF-8 LC_COLLATE=en_GB.UTF-8 LC_MONETARY=en_GB.UTF-8 LC_MESSAGES=en_GB.UTF-8 LC_PAPER="en_GB.UTF-8" LC_NAME="en_GB.UTF-8" LC_ADDRESS="en_GB.UTF-8" LC_TELEPHONE="en_GB.UTF-8" LC_MEASUREMENT="en_GB.UTF-8" LC_IDENTIFICATION="en_GB.UTF-8" LC_ALL= Which means that my input method can be in japanese, but that all programs are in english. However, some programs (wine notepad and some installers etc) have some of the text in Japanese. Wine notepad has the "open file" dialog in Japanese, but the menus are in english. I am using Wine 20030115. Is this a known issue? Regards JG

Well our WinMM is totally wrong but I dont know how much help the WINE winmm will be as there are a LOT of functions it imports that are 9x only. Wines Winmm.dll needs to be rewritten if we are to use it properly. Eric Pouech can you comment? wcmd in a terminal, is it possible?

Hi, wcmd is very useful for me. However, I would like to use wcmd in a terminal, other than the extra window in the wine style. Then the copy paste issue I reported in my other email would be avoidable. Is there a way to run wcmd in a terminal? (NT5 cmd.exe can run, but it crashes when running batch files and I would rather use wcmd). I tried ttydrv in "config", but no luck with that. Also I tried using "wineconsole cmd.exe" however that filled my terminal with "fixme:wineconsole:WCURSES_FillCode Not done yet (330)" and then characters were displayed but Enter stopped working, now its just hung. Menu Items for dialogs working?

RegisterHotKey implementation

Here is a partial RegisterHotKey and UnRegisterHotKey patch which works for the keys I need but is incomplete for modifier keys. You must run tools/make_X11wrappers before compiling or you will get errors. I don't have the time for a few weeks to finish it or look into what is needed to make it complete. I hope someone can take this and get it ready for including. Thanks, Bob.

This means that you have a mismatch between your system headers and your library. This could be considered as a bug to report to the DRI people (if they really provide a gl.h which defines GL_VERSION_1_3, they should also provide a library with all OpenGL 1.3 entry points). We *could* fix this in Wine by adding yet another configure check (or going the full 'GetProcAddress' way which would be needed if we wanted a nice OpenGL packaged Wine) but well, sometimes enough is enough and stuff should be fixed outside of Wine and respecting the rules instead of adding yet another work-around. out of memory on dos programs

interesting crash in msvc6.0 setup

Since msvcmaker doesn't support msvc4.0, I'm trying to install msvc6.0 under wine. (Yeah, I know, I should run it under windows, but I'm stubborn.) Interestingly, the setup program puts itself in the background. This means you have to be careful to check with ps that you don't have old wines laying around from the last run, and when logging, you have to make sure all wine processes have exited, else your log file isn't complete yet. Unfortunately, setup fails fairly early. When emulating win9x, it fails before presenting a dialog box -- with a page fault reading from a file handle returned from CreateFile. It looks like it's doing an assembly string search on the Windows file structure pointed to by the handle! I wonder why. Maybe it was an easy way to prevent people from running under Wine :-) We may have to hack wine to make handles be valid pointers; I wonder what magic bytes setup is looking for there. When emulating winnt or winxp, it gets a bit further, but dies with a null pointer access. Oddly enough, adding --debugmsg +relay lets it proceed. It insists on installing Microsoft VM for Java, then tries to reboot. Restarting wine d:setup (this time without --debugmsg) continues properly for a while, but eventually crashes. Whenever it crashes in winnt/xp, it leaves one or more windowless wcmd's running the following script: :Repeat del "E:\vs60wiz.exe" if exist "E:\vs60wiz.exe" goto Repeat del "C:\WINDOWS\DEL4056.BAT" in a loop, chewing up huge amounts of CPU time. -- Dan Kegel Linux User #78045 http://www.kegel.com

Prob compiling cvs 20030218

Hi I just updated to the cvs version of wine and can't compile anymore. Configure and make depend went fine but make fails with errors in dsound.h: Lines 326-332, 360-367 and many more: stray '\' in program. Looks like it doesn't like the continuing macros here. Then there are followup errors because these macros are not ok. As this file was last modified already some days ago and nobody is complaining I guess it's just me having this problem and regression search wouldn't help. But make clean / make distclean didn't help either. Anybody got a hint what could be wrong? Thanks Fabi
