Help debugging wine with CAM app

I'd like to get involved in wine development. I'm starting by trying to get wine to run my favorite CAM application. Anyone who could give me a little coaching on debugging would be much appreciated. I'm using a recent CVS download of wine. To replicate the problem, do: Download the zip file at ftp://ftp.actarg.com/pub/misc/mtc.tgz. Unzip it under /c/Program Files. Then CD into MTC/TurboNest/Program and run: winedbg TurboNst.exe --debugmsg trace+string,+relay 2>/tmp/debug.out Search in the debug file for the string: TURBONST.ent Right around there is about where it starts to go into an endless loop. I have been single stepping all around in there and I can't figure out what is going on. One wierd thing: In the debugger, do break INT_Int31Handler cont then single step into CallRMInt on line: if (!Dosvm.CallRMInt && !DPMI_LoadDosSystem()), it doesn't seem to call DPMI_LoadDosSystem() at the correct address it calls some other address which looks like a jump table of some kind I'm not sure if that's the problem, but in any case, there's a point soon thereafter where it gets stuck doing: trace:string:lstrcmpiA strcmpi "" and "TURBONST.ent" over and over again. One other interesting thing: I found out by accident that if I patch into wine an illegal operation as follows: Put into the last line of procedure: BOOL WINAPI SetCurrentDirectoryA( LPCSTR dir ) a command that access memory illegally such as: FIXME("TRUE:%s\n",drive); //drive is an int--not a string Then run the program. Wine reports the illegal memory access, but then goes on to run the program successfully (other than that the fonts look funny and that function doesn't work right). Anyone that has experience debugging wine, I'm interested in learning more about how to do it. If I can get some experience under my belt, I'd love to help developing wine and finding more bugs. Hallo, appended patch exports FILE_DupUnixHandle() as wine_dup_unix_handle() from kernel32. As FILE_DupUnixHandle uses it's own server-call, I thinks we need it as wine-exported function. Testframework primer needed

Hallo, I can't find a primer in the wine distribution. I think it should be included. Possible subjects: Writing good test, running test on wine and winxx, ... Also is there a directive for a failing test to immediatly abort or skip some part of the program flow? The reason I ask: Somwhow ../dlls/kernel/testfile.xxx was craeted readonly before and some test didn't erase it so it was left behind. On the next run dlls/kernel/tests/file.c test__hread went into an infinite loop about that, cluttering up the screen, making it hard to find the reason. Wine and ctl3d.dll

Dear Developers, In going over the log file from a recent attempt to install Baldur's Gate, I ran across the following warning: :warn:module:BUILTIN32_dlopen cannot open .so lib for builtin ctl3d.dll: ctl3d.dll.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory I looked in wine/dlls and sure enough, there was no entry for ctl3d. What facilities does this library provide, and are there any plans to implement it in wine? Thanx, Ian

Getting heap error messages, using winelib

Hi! I am linking my app against winelib that i can use binary windows dlls with it... It compiles and links, but when running it i am getting this error message a few times: err:heap:HEAP_GetPtr Invalid heap 00000000! i am not doing anything to init libwine (since i wasn't able to find information about using it, just how to convert windows code with winemaker), all i did was link against libwine and libkernel32... does anyone know how to get it working? btw: how do i build wine with debugging enabled (-g3) ? thanks, blight ________________________________________________________________ Keine verlorenen Lotto-Quittungen, keine vergessenen Gewinne mehr! Property Sheet empty

Hi, I've noticed that property sheet is not yet completely implemented. But I've seen no errors regarding to it. I've build 2 programs one with simple tab control screen and another with a property sheet. (I know they're different, but I mada this to see the code). Tab control works, but the property sheet is not mounted. It just shows the tab with no content. Don't know if there's already a program to test it, but if you want I can send the source. seg fault compiling wine

Hi everyone, I'm getting a segmentation fault compiling wine. This is the error message: LD_LIBRARY_PATH="../../library:../../unicode:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH" ../../tools/winebuild/winebuild -fPIC -L../../dlls -o kernel32.spec.c -spec ./kernel32.spec make: *** [kernel32.spec.c] Segmentation fault make: *** Deleting file `kernel32.spec.c' This is using the current CVS source. I also downloaded the wine-20020411 release of wine and got the same error. I am assuming that there is something wrong with my setup, because I compiled the CVS source about 2 weeks ago without problems, which was after the wine-20020411 release. Any ideas? Hmm, yeah, maybe. I've also suspected these functions lately with some program, but I quickly went on to check for another cause of the failure. Seems like it may really have been the file time functions, though... Well, Oct. 08 2001, 16:48:48 vs. Oct. 08 2001, 21:48:48 sounds like a 5 hour difference to me... (which almost has to be a bug, since it'd be pretty amazing if such an accurate difference of exactly 5 hours was by coincidence) Just assuming that the two dates are supposed to match, of course... Patch for lotus (resubmit)

The attached patch (by Toby Haynes I think) has not made it into CVS and I was wondering what needs to be done to make it accepatable. I know that it is a hack but it makes lotus work. Should I need to build libwine if I'm just building tools, programs and dlls? I have no need of wineserver for the mingw port but I will need it for the cygwin port. x error when multiple wine processes running

In testing the dreamweaver installer, I keep getting these errors: err:font:AddFontFileToList Already loaded font L"Wingdings 3" L"Regular" X Error of failed request: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter) Major opcode of failed request: 15 (X_QueryTree) Resource id in failed request: 0x2c00014 Serial number of failed request: 63 Current serial number in output stream: 63 when I do a ps -A | grep wine I see that there are three wine processes running and two wineservers. Doing a killall wine allows me to run the app again. Does anyone know why this is happening? I've also seen other X errors after a crashed wine app where the x error is invalid window parameter but the opcode is X_CreateWindow or X_ChangeWindowAttributes. The Component Categories Manager

I have been playing with getting a large application made with VB6 and using many third-party ActiveX controls to work with Wine. I am currently having a problem with the absence of COMCAT.DLL and The Component Categories Manager which is ostensibly implemented in it. In fact, Windows implements it in OLE32.DLL; COMCAT.DLL has do-nothing stubs for the registration functions and forwards DllGetClassObject to OLE32.DLL. The MSDN documentation for The Component Categories Manager seems very straightforward; it documents ICatRegister and ICatInformation, which I believe I could implement. Since I've not contributed to Wine before, and just recently joined the digested list, I want to check the following things: * Is anyone else working on this at the moment? * Is there a major technical reason this can't be done yet? * Is there some other reason for me not to work on this soon? * How should the source for this new functionality be organized? * Is there a standard (or exemplary) way to implement IEnumXXXX? I'll be needing IEnumCATID, IEnumCLSID, and IEnumCATEGORYINFO. * What should I do when I think I have working code?

native user32 dll

I'm still trying to fix aol so it can communicate with the web proxy, and I think I've narrowed down the problem to user32.dll, kernel32.dll, and ws2_32.dll. Is it possible to use the native user32.dll? I know kernel and ws3_32 don't work native. I found this: http://wine.codeweavers.com/docs/wine-user/dll-overrides.shtml "user, user32 Window management and standard controls. It was possible to use Win95's native versions at some point (if all other DLLs that depend on it, such as comctl32 and comdlg32, were also run native). However, this is no longer possible after the Address Space Separation, so leave at builtin." and I was wondering if it's still true. thanks michael

As we go the NT-way, this is probably depreciated. - Usage of SHAllocEx Probably requires support in the remote application to lock the passed handle, which is not the case for winhlp32.exe I could also see the possibility to inform the message-packer about the need to pack the WinHelp structure when RegisterWindowMessage is called. What other possibilities do other people see? Help and ideas appreciated.
