Dimi, Come on now, it isn't as if Brett is accusing Codeweavers of actually doing this. He just pointed out a potential flaw in the ballot system. The fact that you failed to comprehend the meaning of such a simple message casts some doubt on your ability to contribute much of any use to either this or any other list. The fact that you so arrogantly dismiss an other's contribution to the discussion makes one wonder just who it is who should 'do everyone a favour and bugger off' ?. About that eeevil library naming decision...

Hello all, I've just had prime evidence of yet another library naming conflict: libuser.so (which is in package libuser-0.32-1). (installed as /usr/lib/libuser.so) Other examples would be libole.so or libavifile.so. So could we please *finally* rename the wine libraries to libwineuser.so or maybe even better libwine_user.so ? Thank you very much... Yeah, people told me that wine libraries would be in separate directories anyway, so no need for that naming. But believe me, I HATED that decision from day 1. Packagers simply won't always choose a separate directory for wine libraries. DTR Flow Control

Is DTR flow control supported? There's a comment in comm.c in SetCommState that says it's not, but EscapeCommFunction has a SETDTR case and a CLRDTR case. Below are the lines I'm talking about. I'm working on an app that asks for DTR flow control and uses overlapped IO when using a modem. It establishes a modem connection, but then it can't send any data over the connection. Hi Michael, > Is DTR flow control supported? No. However the Win32 API uses very confusing names, so make sure the app is really asking for DTR/DSR flow control. DTR_CONTROL_ENABLE does not mean DTR/DSR flow control is enabled, it means turn on the DTR line permanently. Only DTR_CONTROL_HANDSHAKE means the serial port should use DSR/DTR handshaking. (AFAIK, DTR_CONTROL_ENABLE and DTR_CONTROL_DISABLE flags are not correctly handled in the current wine... they should actively turn on or turn off DTR). Additionally, there were some problems in the GetCommState/SetCommState code that saw DTR_CONTROL_HANDSHAKE accidently turned on, so make sure that it is really the application that is requesting it. As Marcus pointed out, the linux kernel itself does not support DTR/DSR flow control, but given the time and motivation, we could solve the problem if you really need to make this work... DirectInput -> Keyboard -> GetDeviceState

The MapVirtualKey in GetDeviceState is not "the way to do it". It does not map VK_?? to DIK_??. I don't know why it does work most of the time. "ptr[i] = 0x80; ptr[i + 0x80] = 0x80;" gave double key events in a game I have. The correct way to convert the keys is by this table (attachment). I made this table by pressing all the keys on my keyboard, and record the keycodes. problem with CreateProces

on #winehq we've been taking a look at a few programs that use CreateProcess at http://open-socket.dyndns.org/~dante/winetest.c is a simple testcase that should run notepad.exe ( verified in w98 ) in wine cvs we fail and go to the message box. unfortuantly. I don't know enough about wine internals to know what is going wrong. this test case though, should make it sufficently easy ( thanks to hax on #winehq : ) the interesting part of the error log is /media/wine/bin/wine: could not load library 'C:\winapps\NOTEPAD.EXE.so' as Winelib application: C:\winapps\NOTEPAD.EXE.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory Also, this came from a application we were debugging, which may be useful, because it is open source (!) and does a lot of twiddling with win9x/nt internals. ( can't find the URL for it atm though, so I'll put the rarup next to the winetest.exe as hl_cs_ogc.rar ) it has a call to strstr where it is trying to find "hl.exe", but the string has HL.EXE in it, so it fails the strstr test, so I'm wondering is strstr supposed to be case insensitive in win32, or are we passing a path that has mixed case, and it shouldn't? --Dante

Hi, I'm presently modifying the X11DRV dibsection code for slight speed improvements using shared memory pixmaps and the like. Im into the "clean up and make it work on all systems" stage of thing, and I have a question. Do people ever worry about what happens if the user is running in a 1, 4 or 8 bit X mode? This has some wacky code, which I am unable to test on my machine (or any machine around).. So i'm implementing what I think _should_ do the trick - but I have no idea if it will work.. If there's a problem in Wine to get this function work, I'd like to know if, apart from updating Wine, I can do any change in the source code in order to make the program work. In addition, I'd like to know which libraries should I add to the linker process to get the symbols resolved ? Should I add msvcrt library ? Should I add ncurses library ? what about kernel, ntdll, wine, wine_unicode (These are the libraries tha resolve symbols by now) ? or Where could I find this information ? Thanks in advance. Hi everybody, I'm new to wine-development but I have used it for a long time now. :) Because I'm using the Crux 0.92 Linux distribution (which doesn't come with db2html, db2pdf etc.) I've used the db2html-winehq script which works quite well. Why isn't it used normally, but only in the make_winehq script? Perhaps someone could change configure.ac so, that it detects if the user has db2html and decides which one to use? I've made a patch for this script so it supports openjade/jade and the Crux distribution. Should I send it to the wine-patches mailinglist? Could someone tell me where to get these db2html etc. scripts? Philipp Wollermann

License change impact on other open-source projects

Sorry to cross post this message, but I want to attract attention developers from other OS projects which use Wine and I'm not sure they are subscribed to wine-license. We discussed a lot how the license change will affect commercial contributors but we did not mention other open-source projects. Can you, guys, give your opinion about the matter? Need help tracing WINE function.

Hi all, I need some assistance.. I'm trying to trace a problem. The quick description is when I run the Visual FoxPro 5 development environment, and I click in a 'edit' window (like when you bring your program up, to edit it) the screen freezes. when I ran wine --debugmsg +win vfp.exe, my last line of trace is: trace:win:EVENT_Capture (0x20021) then the window freezes. So I saw that SetCapure() called EventCapture() in input.c, and I'm trying to trace what all (yikes!) calls SetCapture() I started with [rick@pc99 wine]$ grep -nri --include *.c setcapture * to get all the c files with SetCapture(). Folks, Here is the summary of the votes I received in answer to the request to switch to a copyleft-style license: Agree Disagree Indifferent All votes: 76 (70%) 15 (14%) 17 (16%) Contributors: 39 (66%) 7 (12%) 13 (22%) Contrib. weighted: 59 (64%) 13 (14%) 20 (22%) The first line counts all the votes I received. The second line counts the votes of all people/companies who contributed some code to the project. The last line counts all contributors again but with each being given 1, 2, or 3 votes depending on the importance of his contributions (this evaluation is obviously a bit subjective, but I think the overall trend is clear). The obvious result of this vote is that my previous conclusion was wrong: there is clearly widespread support in the community for a copyleft-style license. With 2 out of 3 contributors in favor of the switch, and less than 15% opposed to it, it's clear that we are going to proceed with the change. We now have to decide the implementation details, like the exact license used, whether to require copyright assignments, etc. My suggestion is that we create a separate mailing list to discuss that, to avoid drowning wine-devel under yet another license flame war. -- Alexandre Julliard julliard(a)winehq.com

I'll explain what I'm trying to do.When I began to migrate this console based programs I wanted to migrate them entirely to Linux without using Wine. I could think of this because my Win32 console programs are designed in native C and C++ and most of its calls are related to ANSI C, and so the migration remains simplified. Console management is platform specific however. I use Win32 console API, and use structures such as INPUT_RECORD. So I'm using Event.KeyEvent.uChar.AsciiChar and Event.KeyEvent.wVirtualScanCode to get and manage keyboard inputs. So it's difficult for me to migrate these calls to, for instance, a ncurses layer, because I must redefine the complete user interface. So I thought of winelib library in order to integrate this part of the programs without changing source code. What I want is add to my program winelib the same way I'm adding other libraries. I don't want to run the program as a Win32 native one, but as a Linux native one. So the steps I followed are: - I installed wine package, getting it from codeweavers. - I added the include files in my source code in order to compile the programs. - I created spec file as wine documents. - I compiled it as documented. - I added the resulting .c file to my makefile. - I compiled all the modules. - I added then following libraries to my makefile linker step: -lkernel -lntdll -lwine -lwine_unicode. Tell me if that's all right. - I linked and created the executable without problems. So, as far as I know, the only place where I call GetStdHandle is in my console module and for displaying and keyboard interface purposes. conhanout = GetStdHandle(STD_OUTPUT_HANDLE); conhanin = GetStdHandle(STD_INPUT_HANDLE); I don't know if the programs may have any additional implicit call to this function. >does your program use AllocConsole or FreeConsole ?
