Stupid winedbg question

This is probably a stupid question but I did not find the answer in the doc (Wine Developper's Guide). How do I copy-paste something from winedbg? A backtrace for instance. Stupid autoconf question

Here is my first cut at adding a check for the FreeType libraries and header files to the Wine configuration scripts. It's basically a copy of Marcus' CUPS stuff. Cutting and pasting in winedbg's xterm only works for me if i hold the shift key down when doing it. Dunno why. i've got more serious problems with winedbg... when exceptions are thrown on critical sections, winedbg starts, but then itself gets stuck on _the same_ critical section. Happens all the time with netscape... i've applied Marcus's patch and i'll see if that reduces the frequency of failures, but it probably won't help winedbg's problems. Here's the list of weird traces: dlls/comctl32/datetime.c:221 dlls/comctl32/datetime.c:224 It looks like the goal was to print stuff on the same line in multiple steps (one TRACE has a '\n' at the beginning) but no DPRINTF is used. Also I'm not sure we would always end up printing a '\n'. Add '\n's everywhere? objects/region.c:908 objects/region.c:911 objects/region.c:918 objects/region.c:936 The '\n' usage is inconsistent. Put '\n's everywhere? dlls/ole32/compositemoniker.c:340 There's a DPRINTF I'm not sure of but there's also (comment by me): { FIXME("()\n"); /* FIXME: To whoever wrote this code: It's either return or break. it cannot be both! */ break; return E_NOTIMPL; } I would say that it should be a return but I'm not 100% sure. FIXMEs in basic controls

I don't know how high of a priority the basic controls (buttons, edit boxes, static, etc) are, but they sure do have a lot of FIXMEs that I'd be willing to help with. Mainly things that the writers didn't know what windoze did. I could probably fix a lot of these. I have a windoze machine, and I could tinker with it to find out the correct behaviour. The only thing is that I'm relatively new to editing wine's sources, and extremely new to CVS, so I wouldn't know what to do with the code when I've finished. If someone could clue me in, I'd be more than happy to clean up some of the FIXMEs.

Well the RtlpWaitForCriticalSection, or at least one of them, has been a long running feature of Notes startup (see the note I posted a few days ago) and still happens on the 0418 drop. Occasionally since that post I have noticed that I get a continuous set of these on shutdown, so something is obviously being changed in this area. It would be nice to get rid of the underlying problem. I have not however seen the default handler problem. doors IPC

Hi, Some time ago here was a discussion about speeding up the communication between the wineserver and the application with various kernel patches. I was reading "Unix Network Programming, volume 2 - IPC" and ran over a "doors" IPC api that is implemented on Solaris and has the lowest latency. According to the book it is ~3 times faster than pipe. Actual values for Solaris 2.6 in the book are: (in miliseconds) doors: 121 sysv msgq: 260 pipe: 324 unix dom. socket: 465 posix msgq: 584 ... There is also a link to a Linux implementation of doors on: http://www.rampant.org/doors/ On this link you will find also more info on doors. But according to the performance tests that the author made, the linux pipe is somewhat the same speed as doors so maybe it could be optimized more or maybe is Linux's pipe already so optimized that doors are unnecesary. You are right, the latest version does not seem to have this problem and seems much better all round. There are still a few messages coming up, and one failure. 1) There is an err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCritical Section timed out message, which seems to work during the retry. This is running on a 500MHz box with 384MB of memory, so it is not as though this machine is slow. 2) Various fixme's for SetConsoleCtrlHandler. It does not seem to matter that this function does not work yet, but Notes seems to want to make some use of it. 3) fixme:string:GetLocalInfoA 'IDEFAULTLANGUAGE' is not defined for your language (0009). Now this one confuses me a bit, as from what I have read in the W32 SDK docs 0009 is not a valid language so I wonder what a real Notes system does with this request. It is the root of the English family of languages, but not a valid one on its own. All I can think is that it is meant to be some kind of International English. Should it simply be aliased to US English (or possibly UK English). 4) fixme:ole:CoRegisterMessageFilter stub. I seem to remember asking about this before and being told it was unlikely to matter, but I include it for completeness. 5) fixme:module:CreateProcessA (nhldaemn.EXE,...): lpStartupInfo->lpTitle Wine console ignored. Now the actual fixme is probably irrelavant, but this is the only message that comes up about nhldaemn.EXE which is the mail notitier process. This process tries to start and then fails, pops up a message box saying failed to start and goes away. Given that this is a child process is there any way to get debug information for just this child? It would be nice to get this one going properly but Notes is a relatively busy process itself, and trying to disentangle the actions of this child process from everything else going on could be hard work. All in all, Wine and Notes is looking VERY good. mailing list unsubscribe hints ?

Hi all, several people seem to not be able to unsubscribe from the mailing lists. Don't ask me why they don't make it - I really don't know. After all we've got the mailing list stuff mentioned in a prominent place on the home page and in 7 lines in every mail header. Now I'm asking you: Could we replace the 7 lines in the mail header (that many people using non-"advanced" mail clients will never see anyway, which is why we're always getting these annoying unsubscribe requests) with 1 line at the bottom of each mail body mentioning a URL where you can find all kinds of mailing lists info ? Loading document problem in word 97

Hi, I'm using wine 04/18 release and have been reading the archives pretty constantly and using releases for a while now. This is my first bug report, so be kind! So the system i have is redhat linux 6.2 (2.2.16-3) with lots of upgrades, dual boot with win98 on the other partition. It's mounted in linux at /c. I remember a time when this feature worked ( i can't remember when though) and it hasn't been working since probably the last couple of releases. I can't exactly pinpoint it down because i skipped a couple at the end of 2000. Anyways here's the problem. I can run word 97 fine which is pretty awesome. The basic quick overview of the problem is that i try to open a word document, word then says it can't find it, and then the original file has been renamed to the original name with an additional .doc at the end. so the longer explanation is that i click on File->Open and the file open dialog comes up. I then go to the C: drive and it shows me the files there. Everything looks fine. Now i go and double click on the file and then word pops up a little dialog box and says: This file could not be found. Try one or more of the following: Check the spelling of the name of the document Try a different file name (OLD EXAMS AND ANSWERS.DOC) After this i check the filesystem and see that my file: /c/Old exams and answers.doc has been renamed to: /c/Old exams and answers.doc.doc Now if in the file open dialog i had manually typed in c:\Old exams and answers.doc, then clicked open, word opens the file fine. So it's something in the handling of the double click open. I've never debugged a wine application before, so i just did --debugmsg trace+all and saved it to a file. I then went through this and found some things. This might not be what you need to figure out the problem, but i thought it was kinda interesting. So i can see some calls to the registry for the ".doc" key. Compilation error with cvs sources

I get this error below while trying to compile the winecvs sources. All sources are updated to the current day. I am using gcc-2.96 compiler on a Mandrake system. Winex also fails at the same exact point. If there is something else that I should be attaching to this for information to the developers then please let me know. wine, apihooks, and diablo 2

Howdy.. I've been trying to get the battle.net aspect of Diablo 2 working with wine in the past few days. I've been attempting to do so with both transgaming's latest winex CVS HEAD and also wine's CVS HEAD, to similar results. As you probably know, right now Diablo 2 runs just dandy assuming you only want to play single-player. There are two ways to play multiplayer: the normal d2 way, executing Diablo II.exe with the D2 Play CD in the CDROM, or using a "no-cd" patch. Neither of these approaches currently work with wine. (Currently, to play, you appear to have to use the "no-cd" patch in any case, but you end up only using half the patch -- I'll explain below.) If I attempt to play with the CD, using "wine -- 'Diablo II.exe'" (with or without -win argument to D2), after a few seconds, the CPU is spiked and no output occurs. Watching a +trace output shows that it is executing Game.exe (the main game driver), but then things go wonky. (Incidentally, I can't figure out how to get a debugmsg flag on processes created from a wine process.. is there a config option?) It certainly hasn't started looking at the cdrom (as per strace). The no-cd case is more interesting. There are typically two parts, one a driver called 'DLoad.exe' and then the game-replacement, called 'game_crk.exe'. To play single player, 'game_crk' can be invoked directly (with a -win arg if necessary), and things work great. However, on attempting to play on battle.net, it complains that it can't recongize the version. This is where DLoad is required. From examining DLoad, it appears to use the ApiHooks toolkit, available at http://www.anticracking.sk/EliCZ . This basically provides the programmer with a simple way to insert his or her own wrapper between an app and functions it calls in a DLL. Simple enough, it seems. However, to do so, it takes advantage of VirtualAllocEx to allocate memory in the target process, which wine seems to not support. (It also calls VirtualAlloc with a flag value of 0x8001000 -- the 0x8000000 part being unknown. I couldn't find any info on MSDN, so I just hacked wine to strip this bit out if it sees it -- anynoe know anything about this?) so, I'm wondering if anyone has any insight or pointers into either of these two issues, or any suggestions on which one would be easiest to tackle. I would prefer to tackle the first one (the with-CD case) initially, as it seems a bit simpler and cleaner. But we'll see. thanks, - Vladimir
