IE 5.01 setup cant download? [ie5setup.exe]

Has anyone actually gotten IE 5 or even IE6 working natively under WINE yet? [even under the latest CVS?] For the last few months, I tried running a clean wine installation [without windows] and run ie5seup.exe or even ie6setup.exe and each time it trys to download information, It *always* complains that "Setup was unable to download information about available installation sites" and if I ever go to advanced and add a proxy, wine CRASHES with ["Unhandled exception: page fault on write access to 0x00000000 in 32-Bit mode."] ["Symbol h_errno is invalid"] ["Symbol __strtol_internal is invalid"] ["Symbol hack_digit is invalid"] ["0x4174ad58 (RICHED32.DLL.DllGetVersion+0x32e7f4 in wininet.dll.so:"] The question is has anyone gotten internet explorer installed just from using ie5setup.exe or ie6setup.exe ??

Ok, After I posted that message, I tried a "make depend" before my make and it seemed to have fixed the problem. This was *never* an issue before but it now works.

Well, I took off the dirty hack on virtual.c and put inside something that seems to me much more like a real solution. Took off in executable mapping VPROT_WRITE and VPROT_WRITECOPY flags and added VPROT_EXEC; that looks much more close to win2k mapping. The only difference now is in Type field, wine maps as MEM_PRIVATE and win2k as MEM_IMAGE (I guess that's the right one, but no time now to check. Here the attached patch.... any comment appreciated :-) Regards Max

Warcraft 3 : success and woes

Hello dear list, ** All the following has been teste on debian sid, XF4.0.2-17, latest wine CVS, on a Geforce2 with 2960 nvidia drivers. GL include were the standart mesa ones. system is pIII-smp, stock 2.4.18 kernel. ** I've followed with great interest a thread on wine-devel where Matthieu Foillard explained his problems trying to run warcraft3 under standard wine. I came across the same problem, so i though i could post here to explain what to do. This is really simple, and following Jesse Allen's recommendation found on http://www.winehq.com/hypermail/wine-devel/2002/07/0189.html The problem appears when you try to run warcraft 3 in opengl mode, regardless of whether or not you ran it with d3d and wineX previously. Warcraft is (following Jesse Allen's thought) trying to scan video modes available in OpenGL and gets stuck. However, after only one successful launch, the game creates the registry entries needed, and does not need to go through this detection cycle again. Question is, how to create those entries ? At your option * try to merge/use my user.reg attached below NOTE: i've still to look to the cd-key entry in my brother's win system to add it and be able to connect to battle.net =) You'll get into trouble certainly though, so read on. * try to do a minimal patch to do one successful run (warning, not very beautiful, we're not on wine-devel): You have to edit the function WINPOS_MinMaximize in the file wine/dlls/x11drv/winpos.c modify it so that it'll return SWP_NOSIZE | SWP_NOMOVE; anyway. compile & install, run. I dont know how this morbid modification affects other things. AFTER the successfull run, you can happily launch the game: launch it and relaunch it change resolution at your leasure BUT... If you do only one small change on window focusing... then it seems impossible for the game window to get the focus again on relaunch. All goes to the launching window ; i've tried with various window managers (kwin, pwm, blackbox) : same problem. So I thought : some information is written somewhere, that is not valid any more when i do a focus change. 1) could it be in user.reg/wine itself ? Deleting ~/.wine/user.reg will solve the problem. However, i've diffed two user.reg differently generated ; i'm at a loss to find any significant difference between the two. (the diff's attached) Furthermore, storing away user.reg and rm -Rf'ing ~/.wine, and copying back, with some focus change in between, leads to a non-focused game window. 2) could it be elsewhere ? IT IS ! As a matter of fact, building a fresh user.reg, then replacing it with an old saved one, without focus changes works flawlessly. I'm pretty sure something somewhere gets written with something like a window number in it. I'm pretty sure that's either in X itself or in the window manager. BTW, the results are the same wether i use wine in managed or unmanaged mode : the WM seems to be unaware of the created window. I don't know if I made myself clear ; i'd be glad to help you (*cough*) fix the bug for me, or (*cough* *cough*) give me some information/pointer as to how i could fix it. Wine stopped compiling a fews days ago or maybe a week. I download the CVS every few days and I noticed that it cant compile anymore. AutoCAD2000 again and CreateFiber

Well, after the patch-hack-or whatever on VirtualQuery, AutoCAD2000 began coming alive ! Some problems yet, but one wonders me in particular : setting window version as win98 or winnt40, app shows an exception stating that CreateFiber function is not implemented; setting as win95 the apps starts quite well. Any idea ? Is there some plan to implement xxxxxFiber functions, or it's too difficult ? BTW, looking for help on the net, i haven't really understood the difference between a regular thread and a fiber (only caught that use of fibers instead of threads is somehow discouraged...) Preliminary patch for Bug 675 - LVM_SCROLL

The attached patch implements LVM_SCROLL. While not many programs use it, implementing it required changing how scrollbars were handled for all of Listview. This new implementation is much more like the native. The scrollbars mimic the range of pixels that they cover. This allows the specification of a pixel level scroll which is critical to LVM_SCROLL. The only exception (and the native does this also) is for LVS_LIST displays where the scrollbar is related to the number of columns to be displayed. Before submitting to wine-patches, I am interested in feedback and any discrepancies with how the native controls work (-dll commctrl,comctl32=n). Thanks, Guy Albertelli <<galberte(a)neo.lrun.com>>

I think this is because the module name is no longer in the .spec file. Lines 71-73 of winapi_extract look for "name" in the .spec file, which no longer exists. Should we be using the file name as the module name? Hi, Here's how to get Warcraft 3 running under wine: 1. Use the latest wine cvs. Only that will work. 2. Mount the CD, and run install.exe on the CD with the winver set to win98 under config. (even though 95/98 are exactly the same when playing the game--i hate that) You should disable the ide-scsi thing because it seems to cause problems =( 3. Close the install program. Go to the directory where war3 is installed. mv the Movies folder to Movies backup. The game tries to display a movie clip on start in the retail, and it hangs wine =( 4. Download the NoCD patch for Warcraft 3 v1.00 (I don't know if 1.01 is out yet) at www.gamecopyworld.com. mv war3.exe and worldedit.exe to backup names. Copy in the patched program exe's. You may now run War3 if you wish. Warcraft 3 uses Safedisc v2. With this patch it will bypass it. Run war3 with the command "wine war3.exe -- -opengl". 5. To login battle.net, you need to bypass the exe check. With the patched version of the game, it won't work. So what I did to get it to work is moved the patched exe's to something like "war3_patched.exe" and create a symbolic link "war3.exe" that links to it. Start the game "war3.exe". To login to battle.net, open bash console. Change to the war3 directory, and reset the symbolic link to the original war3 exe, let it sleep 5 seconds, and then reset the symbolic link back to the patched version. While it's sleeping, you need to login into battle.net immediately. This is what I did to get D2 battle.net to work under wine. It should work for war3. You need to be the same version as battle.net for it to work though. (currently only 1.00 is availible for linux, and battle.net is 1.01) 6. To patch the game, you need to get the standalone patches. Set your symbolic link to the real exe's, and patch away =) The beta in contrast worked perfectly. The retail has a couple problems =(. The advantages I find running War3 under linux/wine/opengl, are higher framerates than on both real windows, and winex. And no graphics errors in comparison to winex d3d8, and no sound problems like under real windows. My three button mouse also works unlike windows. All these advantages =) Jesse

libwine problem when calling GetModuleHandle(null) from C# on linux

I have this very simple C# program compiled on linux using the lates mono (http://www.go-mono.com): ------- using System; using System.Runtime.InteropServices; class Win32Methods{ [DllImport("kernel32.dll")] public extern static IntPtr GetModuleHandleW(string lpModuleName); } class Class1 { [STAThread] static void Main(string[] args) { Console.WriteLine("GetModuleHandle(null): {0}", Win32Methods.GetModuleHandleW(null)); } } ------ When I run this on Windows (.NET) it prints out the module-handle. If I run it on linux using mono, I get: ------ err:heap:HEAP_GetPtr Invalid heap 00000000! GetModuleHandle(null): 0 ------ I have seen some old post suggesting that this error is due to opengl-build-problems, but i'm able to run notepad (the wine-version), which I assume call kernel32.GetModuleHandle as well. WineVersions tested: - wine-cvs-unstripped-071702-1.i386.rpm downloaded from http://wine.dataparty.no today - libwine version included on Mandrake 8.2. Possible Fix?

I installed Dynomite for Windows (from PopCap) into a Wine-only installation and noticed that as I moved the window, the images and sprites were offset by the corresponding amount. I added a return statement into the following file (updated from CVS as of today) and the problem went away almost completely. On occasion repainting still can be problematic but overall things work much better. windows/winpos.c, in function WINPOS_GetWinOffset() I simply returned immediately following the line which sets the X and Y offsets to 0. Now I suspect that the rest of the code is rather necessary in some instances but in this particular case it is getting in the road. Any comments? Anthony

Virtual Pages difference - Spotted with VirtualQuery()

As usual, AutoCAD seems to be a good test-bench for wine :-) I spotted the problem that seemed coming from VirtualQuety function, but that is (I guess... hmmmm) more a problem of memory handling in wine. I think wine should set Protect flag quite as like as possible as windoze For AutoCAD2000 I put a dirty hack in process.c, but is really ugly; i'd prefer not to put my hands (bytes ?) too deeply inside some code that I don't understand completely... Windows emulator for Linux - here WINE again

VirtualQuery problem... maybe

After 2 weeks debugging between window$ and wine (sigh), I found a different behaviour of VirtualQuery function : The app queries info about some pages in its code (really dunno why....); in PROTECT field of BASIC_MEMORY_INFO, windows returns a 0x20 value (EXECUTE_READ), but wine returns 0x08 (WRITE_COPY), causing app to hang. I guess there's an error somewhere, as the required info belongs to executable code, so at least should be active some EXECUTE flag; btw, my app checks only that the page has not active NO_ACCESS, WRITECOPY and PAGE_GUARD flags, and behaves badly if find one of them. As a check, I only add an *protect = *protect & 0xffff7fff to GetWin32Prot code, taking so off the WRITECOPY flag only, and the app began starting. As I don't know about anything of linux memory protections (sigh), the question is : is there someone with wnough skllls that want to check it ? :-) Regards Max

Hello, at least the attached patch fixes the problem described in the summary of bug #24 (in the description there are some other problems described too. That's why i CC wine-devel to let one of the bugzilla guru's decide how to proceed with that bug report). ImageList_Remove when called to remove all images on an empty ImageList returns TRUE. Checked with the ControlSpy on Windows 98SE (MSDN wasn't helpfull in this case). In programs/winetest/wine.xs, there is a function alloc_thunk(). Currently, there is only an implementation for i386. I have created an implementation for sparc, but I can't figure out how to test it. Does anyone know how this function gets called, or if it is still used? I tried "wine winetest.exe.so tests/wine.pl" and that calls some of the other functions in wine.xs, but not alloc_thunk(). Any help would be appreciated. Alright, makes sense. Since I don't know what you mean by "all compilers," I added a configure test and I will make sure __sparc__ is used everywhere. In regards to the second point (@function vs. 2), something has been bugging me for a while... Why do the .spec.c files have so much assembly code in them? To me, it looks like most of it could be replaced with an array and some creative use of global variables. I'm willing to tackle the task of converting the .spec.c files to use as much C as possible, but I can only test it on sparc. OLE classes registration

While researching bug 853 I found out that OleLoadFromStream fails if the specified OLE class is not registered. Many our OLE classes are not registered. Just submitted a patch to register CLSID_StdFont class which fixes the bug. Should I also add the registry etries for all other OLE classes? The LoadLibrary call comes from the implementation of DelayLoad ;-). ------------x8----------- http://www.microsoft.com/MSJ/1298/win32/win321298.htm When the application runs, a call to a delay-loaded function actually calls the __delayLoadHelper function instead. This function references the special table I mentioned previously, and knows to call LoadLibrary followed by GetProcAddress. Once the address of the delay-loaded function is obtained, __delayLoadHelper fixes up calls to this function so that future calls go directly to the delay-loaded function. Note that other functions in the same DLL will still have to be fixed up the first time you call them. I am trying to test my program which does a simple print preview in VB but cant get that far yet. Setup: CUPS HPLJ4 setup (CUPS+GIMP-print v4.2.0) When I run the program and it starts accessing the printer (GetCompatibleDC/FindPrinterInfo?) it complains about AFM fonts. I tried adding /usr/share/fonts/afms/adobe to the afmdirs in the config file and although I get different trace, I get the same message. Reading the winehq guide to printing it doesnt mention anything about setting up afmdirs and I read that wine should be able to do it itself for Type 1 fonts, but I have no idea where this is going wrong. I've hunted dejanews (goole groups) and although I can find lots of hits on these messages I couldnt find anything clear. Questions... 1. Should I need to install AFM fonts - 4.7.2.1.4 of http://www.winehq.com/Docs/wine-user/printing.shtml implies not. However this implies I need a PPD file for my printer, but 4.7.2.1.1 implies there is no further configuration required. The 'funny' side is I dont care too much about the printing just yet - I just want to be able to query the dimensions to test the rest of mq code!! The current drive is presumably C:. But the test should have tested for the existence of drive D: before using it.
